The Mary Janes were a drag, as were Bit o Honeys but my brother liked them so they were an easy offload. Never got them for trick or treats but there should be a special place in hell for whoever gives out circus peanuts yuck!

Best: Not even candy, it was a 50 cent piece. Back in the 60's 50 cents can buy you a lot of candy, many of them a nickel and under and soda was 10 cents. Comics were 12 to 15 cents.

Worst: Baked goods like cupcakes and cookies. Even back then my Mom wouldn't let us eat them unless they were from neighbors she knew. Was really hard to receive these things and Mom wouldn't let us eat them. But I understand now.

WTF: I had a can of Vienna sausages once. I mean it's o.k. but on Halloween?

Best: Any of the main brand candy (reese's PB cups, milkyway, skittles, starburst, etc.)
Worst: tootsie rolls or off-brand candy that always tastes funky.

WTF: someone who handed out mini packages of baby carrots. You're better off not giving anything vs. "making a statement" on halloween. One Gweneth Paltrow is bad enough on her "I'm going to force clean living down everyone's throat" campaign.

(Or even give something semi-healthy, but flipping carrots? No. Just no.)

Sorry. It was not about eating them, it was about culling the trick or treater herd.

One of the funniest recurring sketches I can remember on this topic was on the OLD Letterman show, where kids dressed in totally absurd costumes would come to the door.

He would do stuff like say "Here, kid! Have some pesto sauce" and then ladle it into the kid's bag! :)
