I've read various trip reports that have suggested better times of day to check in at Cosmo if you want a certain room type or high floor. If I remember correctly this has something to do with their room cleaning schedule.

Can anyone shed some light on "the best" time of day to check in to get a room on a high floor?

    Thanks

Right after most rooms are cleaned but right before lots of other people show up and not when too many of the staff are on break and avoid when they are having staff meetings. Try to find a staff member in a real good mood that might do upgrades for you or one so pissed at the company they will give you anything because they are about to quit.

    Other than that..... LOL!

I just try to get into the room as early as possible, but if the room I would like isn't ready, I leave my bags with the bell desk and they let me know when I can get into a room.

This. I’ve always checked in around noon, on weekdays, and the check in lines were minimal. No problem getting the tower and floor that I want. Longest I ever had to wait after dropping my luggage off at bell desk was about 45 min. I generally find that checking in at noon, regardless of property, is quite easy.

There are hypotheses that hosted players, who get higher floors, and are more likely to be able to get late-late checkout (3-4pm or later) vacate those rooms later, therefore later check-in can result in higher floors, better view.

I've never tried to strategically plan my checkin time. I fly in based on my life schedule. I've once arrived later and got a very high floor fountain view. Last time I arrived after 6pm, I got the very lowest floor and a room I found unacceptable... they moved me to a better room; it was one floor higher.

There really isn't any need to play check-in roulette.

If Cosmo is the first or only place you're staying on your trip, just check-in when you get there and state any preferences you have. If they can meet them right away, they will. If not, they'll text you when a suitable room is ready, although it's basically impossible to predict when that will be.

I usually arrive about 11:00am. The times I've had to wait because I had a preference about which tower or something else (about 25% of the time), it's been as little as an hour (for a Studio) and as long as four hours (for a Terrace Suite which has a smaller inventory). If I don't have any preferences aside from the room type I booked, I've always been able to get a room right away.

It's not really that much different than anywhere else, although I usually don't have to stand in the main lines anywhere either.

Check-in isn't the same as getting a room but they can't help you if you don't tell them so do it as early as possible so you're in the queue. They want you happy. You're on your vacation so the sooner you get your room the better for them and you. That rush at the fake check-in time is not good for the guests or employees so they really do want you in your room ASAP. And if you have to wait, at least they know about it and can usually prioritize housekeeping to get the room ready.

About leaving your luggage, there is a small risk of things getting stolen so take your valuables with you and don't forget to tip.

There aren't many bad views at Cosmo. Even low floors have good views, especially the Chelsea Tower. Boulevard Tower can have issues with the Bellagio sign. Marquee Day Club noise can be an issue on lower floors if you don't want to hear generic DJ #47 again and again.

The one issue with high floor rooms is that they are much higher than surrounding hotels. Once you've seen how dirty the roof of Bellagio is, it's something you can't unsee. There is a good level where you can see the mountains beyond the surrounding hotels, but from the top floors, the views seem to flatten out. One of my favorite trips was one where I stayed in a 14th floor room of the Boulevard Tower, which is the first floor of guest rooms, and it was like being embraced by the strip, all the noise and craziness on a private terrace.

That said, my advice is to go to the desk as early as possible, talk to the clerk and see if you can check in. If the room isn't ready, see if they can text you when the room you want is ready. If there are lines, check your bags, get a Verbena and have fun. A Friday is going to be a lot different than a Tuesday. Cosmo has a really professional front desk staff.

Speaking of, we get in early and know our room might not be ready, Can we use the pool though if I bring a suit in my backpack and we have them hold our bags?

Can’t say specifically about Cosmo but most resorts will give you a key not coded to a room to access the pools. Venetian did it and Mirage offered it to me. Some like Venetian will automatically code the room to your pool keys so when you get the text/email you can go straight to my suite.

Best time for me to check into any hotel is around 1-3pm. This gives the hotel some time to turn over rooms from the prior night and puts me ahead of infrequent travelers who think they “can’t” check in until 4.

That said, I check in when I arrive. I don’t try to micromanage this.

Can't speak specifically to pool use, but I've been able to charge restaurants to room before it's ready to occupy... so I'd assume pool access is same.

My experience overall at Cosmopolitan... they must have fairly robust customer service training... I can't think of asking for something reasonable that they didn't try to accommodate...

The last four times I have taken an early flight, get in around 9-9:15 am. Usually get to Cosmo around 9:45 or 10 am and have always gotten my room right away. I always check in on a Monday or Tuesday though.
