Trips to Las Vegas

Dear VP aficionados

I'm heading to Vegas in a few months and would like to know the best spot to kick back playing VP under the following conditions (in order of priority):
- Strip location
- Natural light
- Good drinks service
- People watching
- Low to medium limits

Maybe asking too much? Thanks in advance

....your title IS "VP and Beer"...

Natural Light...your beer or environmental requirement...?

Do they even make Natural Light any more?

TAG lounge at Linq..should cover your bases pretty well no matter what your answer

Haha good question. Definitely not light beer. I prefer a good beer in natural light that you get from the Sun e.g. the atmosphere under some of the BJ tables in the Tropicana until they abused me (another story).

On Fremont you can play at Four Queens or Binion's and sit at a VP bar where you can see the outside world through an open door. Otherwise video poker and natural light are pretty much mutually exclusive. Maybe at Casino Royale you can see what time of day it is through an open door. Harrah's and Flamingo have some garage door sized openings. Cosmopolitan has some windows near the Strip. Drink service on the floor is usually a function of crowd size and tipping.

I don't think any place will fit all of your parameters. The closest place I can think of is Mikes' Bar at the Four Queens. It's Downtown, so it doesn't meet the 'Strip' parameter. But it is located open to Fremont Street so it's naturally lighted, it does have full pay vp and $.25 games, you can people watch Fremont Street and the Mikes at the bar keep the good brews coming. And, when you want something to eat, you can get some good food without raping your wallet.

  • Another Strip/DT/Off-Strip Trip
Thanks for the tip folks. I'm there for 5 nights so a trip to Fremont will on the cards at some point so I'll check them out.

This past December one afternoon we stopped in Ellis Island for a beer and a little video poker. We soon got a little bored and wanted to go somewhere where the sights were a little more enjoyable. We wandered over to Hard Rock and on the way to the head noticed a bar advertising Goose Island beer ( may have been the name of the beer) itself. Sooo the staff was shall we say much more interesting to look at than Ellis Island. They comped the Goose Island of course and also come to find out they comped Glenlivet 12 yr. Very good time.

Based on the many VP bars we have tried I believe that The Bond Bar at the Cosmo would Coke the closest to what your looking for. Just sit on the Las Vegas blvd street side of the bar.

Can't find a link or anything online about this bar. Any other names that it does by?

Well, almost all of the bartenders at the bar have the name of Mike...so it's called Mikes' bar. I'm not sure of the actual name...it's the 4Qs bar right at the front of the casino and if you added two more seats in length it would go out onto Fremont street.

Yes, that is what my brother usually drinks. :rolleyes2:

As for "the other natural light", Mirage Lobby Bar has some, the paytables aren't very good though. 6/5 Bonus (96.87%) for quarters is best and the rest fall off fast. Beer choices suck

But Cosmo's Bond and Sportsbook bars probably are also good choices for "natural light" and good choices for mixed drinks. 6/5 Bonus and 8/5 DDB (96.79%) plus 6/5 Super DDB (97.69%) and 20(wild royal)/9(SF) Double Bonus Deuces (97.68%) at the Sportsbook. Sportsbook has about 20 beers available.

TAG Lounge is a great choice for craft beer lovers, roughly 60 choices that can be comped. There is some light in the day from the casino exits. Paytables are decent too for quarters at least, dollars, not so much because they don't change with denomination. 7/5 Triple Bonus Plus (97.67%), 6/5 Bonus, 8/5 DDB.

Bigcasino, why do you say to sit on the Las Vegas blvd street side of the bar?

Uranium 235 was asking for VP bars that have a good amount of sunlight. You'll get more of it if you sit on that side of Bond. As seen from the big windows here.

Great VP Pay Schedules

GREAT MICRO BREWS (brewed on site!)

High Roller Gold - 5.4%
High Roller Gold is our take on a light beer. It is light, crisp, clean and refreshing. It will cool you down and refresh you during the hot Vegas days.

Royal Red - 5.5%
Complex and well-balanced. Our slightly hoppy red ale with a sweet, toasted malt flavor.

Marker Pale Ale - 5.6%
Marker Pale Ale is an American Pale Ale in all its glory. We use American hops over a light malt backbone allowing the floral and citrus aromas and flavor shine.

Double Down Hefeweizen - 4.6%
Double Down Hef is a classic German style wheat beer that is light and refreshing. It has the classic hef flavor of banana and clove that everyone knows and loves.

Black Chip Porter - 5.2%
Black Chip is our take on an English porter. Its dominant flavor is dark chocolate and coffee. It is hearty and sure to satisfy your cravings for a dark beer.

Carlsbad IPA – 7.8%
So-Cal style IPA, aggressively hopped with loads of Citra and Chinook.

Brewmaster's Reserve*: Cherry Porter - 5.3%
Limited release of our Black Chip Porter with a hint of cherry.

Just outside of this bar at MSS is the location of the car explosion in the movie Casino.

The "Trackside bar" at Palace Station has full pay vp (25 cent progressive), what ever you want to drink AND you can see out side through the glass doors (that are next to Sportsbook)!

The bar at 4 Queens is called the Chicago brew house...Good craft beer on tap...close to the Fremont street entrance.

The bar is actually called Kings Bar. It is on the west side of 4Q just as you walk in from Fremont. I have sat there a few times playing VP and watching the street. You can get Chicago Brewery beer on tap at this bar.

Tringlomane is right on. That side of the bar is all glass that is right against the side walk on Las Vegas Blvd. plenty of natural light and hundreds of people walking by on the sidewalk just a few feet from the bar. Great people watching. Have fun!
