I have seen lots of TRs where VMBers tip with $2 bills and I would like to get some before my August trip. Unfortunately, my financial institution (credit union) does not carry them and and no one there seems to know where I can get $100 - $200 worth. I am hoping someone can tell me:

    Which banks I should contact?
Would I need to be an account holder at that bank or fulfill any other requirements?
Is this something I can take care of in Vegas?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Brick, I might be able to get some and I could get them to you in Vegas. If that is amicable, let me know.

any major bank should have them here on the West Coast - Wells Fargo, Chase, etc. I have always been able to get some when needed. I don't think if you are just changing one denomination for another that you would need an account there, unless they are being beotches that day.

Never asked a credit union, but every major bank I have been in has them. Or, just ask your credit union to order some. It shouldn't be a problem

The manager of the credit union branch should be able to arrange it, as a practical matter it isn't any different than if you walked in and said you needed $50,000 in $100 bills. They might not have them on hand, but they can get them.

I get them at Wells Fargo. Sometime it might take them a day or two but Iv'e never had an issue with them getting me some.

That's crazy talk. I just walk into my credit union before every trip and ask for $100 worth. I've never had to ask them to do it, but they can easily order them for you.

Be wary. It's actually tough to give away 50 $2 bills while you're in Vegas for 3 or 4 nights. Don't get more than $100 your first trip... it's overkill and I learned that the hard way with my first time doing it.

You're talking about carrying around 12-15 $2 bill per day while you're also carrying around your BR.

I've been doing this for many years and always come home with more than dozen left over.

Thanks for all the good advice. I will check with my local Wells Fargo and Bank of America.

FrostedBS: thanks for the offer. If the banks don't have it, I might take you up on it. Either way, it would be cool to meet up for some craps or something. I'm there August 13 - 16 with Mrs. Brick and other family.

Walked into my bank with a note and came out with these.

Easy game. Best slot I've played in awhile.

I thought about that too. lol. There is one on Mission St. in SF a few blocks away from my job that I've heard has decent steak bites. I've been looking for a new lunch place ;)

Chase Bank here. Went to change a hundy for some $20s. They wouldn't do unless I had an account. A**HOLES!!!
I have never run into that before or since, but I would never use Chase after that experience, for anything.

That's why I use First Citiwide Change Bank.

“We are not going to give you change that you don’t want. If you come to us with a hundred-dollar bill, we’re not going to give you two thousand nickels. . . . Unless that meets your particular change needs.”

Any banks close to the strip that would change it for you?
