I won a seat into the wpt passport tourney and one of the stipulations with my wife for going is to not make this a normal gambling Vegas trip. I am only gonna take 200-300 to gamble with. Staying at Wynn for the tourney but can walk the entire strip or even uber downtown. where is the best place to play VP and drink cheap??
Second Peppermill. Friendly bartender. Drinks (not those fancy ones) comped. I played quarters there. Nobody smoking when I was there.
Chicago Brewing in the Four Queens. They don't give a flip what denom you are playing at and will comp just about anything.
If it makes any difference, a lot of bartops have roulette now where you can bet as little as $0.25 per spin. Not sure this will “keep the light on” at places with light-based monitoring systems. But I’ve done this at many places and gotten comp drinks that way. If you’re betting outside like red/black, dozens, columns, etc., it can be very low volatility. My personal favourite strategy is to just put $0.25 on each of the four “cold” numbers as shown on the display and eke out the odd $9.00 win on a $1.00 total bet.
Even money blackjack, as found on bar machines, has the same house advantage as 6/5 bonus poker but a lot less volatility. Usually the minimum bet is $1 while you would need $1.25 on quarter video poker to get the stated payback. At the Vue Bar, sometimes I would play even money blackjack to use some different brain cells, although the 8/5 bonus poker is obviously the better payback, about 2% of that is in the royal flush.
Watch out with this one - lots of recent reports about them keeping an eye on slow play. That place gets busy and the drinks are expensive; I'm all for trying to beat the house edge with my comped bar tab, but I don't know if I'd go all the way to Fontainebleau on the chance that they're being observant that day.
True but I’m staying there today and… I’d imagine they’re seeking to push out people abusing the system. I play 1200 hands an hour at full speed and will still (I’d imagine) play 300-400 hands an hour even when being casual.
I think the worst video blackjack rules available are closer to the house edge of 7/5 DDB (4.29% house edge), but yeah, the variance goes down a ton.
300 hands an hour is almost the rate needed to keep cosmo's light green. And they will still serve you some on yellow.
Played at Tavern tonight. My finish: -a Navy Grog -a daiquiri drink -glass of Pinot Noir -big ass Pellegrino -up $10 They don’t have a light system, I play at a decent clip (with breaks to sit around and not do shit) and I tip $3+ per drink, so… zero issues getting what I wanted (though the $25 comp limit is real— got denied a $28 pour of red wine).
Tavern bar is very pleasant. I got some great Negronis there the other night. With the big square ice cube too. They close early though, so not great for late night. Peppermill bar is a fun space, quirky. They comp wells. Full pay though!
I wonder… if you’re futzing around but want to get served… can you just bang out 20 + quick 25c hands and get the light crackin’ again?
Agree with most of this. Tavern Bar closing at 11 (or earlier) weeknights sucks. They sure make nice cocktails though. Ohhhhh… I thought you said P’mill comps well… not wells. They do comp good beers like Sculpin so I like that. I wonder if (much like I was able to use my Free Spirit Gold status and decent conversation) to get a margarita on the plane today… how often decent conversation and tipping can get you higher end drinks at the Peppermill, Golden Tiki, etc. It’s a dilemma in that I’d rather not drink well in Vegas (or in general) but don’t conceptually like paying for drinks in Vegas, especially while I gambool.
