    Hi -

I need advice, I've been to Vegas lots of time, more for conferences than anything so am familiar with most hotels but this time I am planning my god daughters 21st bday and want to make it special. Need some advice on what hotel to pick. We plan to stay in one of the main strip hotels and I plan to get a cabana at the pool one day as her gift. We don't want the least expensive room but something that balances a nice room, with a nice pool with a decent price. The one's we are considering are:

    1. Treasure Island - this is the middle priced room of the 3 we are looking at but appears to have a better pool than #2 and the cabana is $100 or more less than $2

    2. Linq - this is the least expensive but the pool looks small and might be super busy in June?? The cabana's are $100 more but look a little nicer than #1

    3. Mandalay - I know, why would I not choose this one? Have a connection to get us a good price on the room but it's the most expensive but not by that much. The cabana is probably $200 more - depending on location and we are so far off the beaten track from everything. We are only staying 3 days so we want to pack a bunch of stuff in. I know the pools of 1 and 2 are not even close to comparable to this one though.

So. Who knows what particularly about the pools on a Friday and 1 and 2? Are they nice, crowded, will we have more fun at one over the other? Any other hotel suggestions?

Also, any must do's for a 21st celebration?

    TIA!

If your drinking and eating at the pool look at mgm. You don't have to stay at mgm, just take a uber. I think there still food and drink minimums which means as long as you spend that much on drinks and food the cabana is free.

I think the Mirage has everything you are looking for. It has a great location, good pool that would appeal to a 21 year old and reasonably priced rooms.

@domeboy yesterday noted a $100 cabana deal at Planet Hollywood. Not the greatest pool, but still that's a reasonable price for a cabana and it's a nice hotel/casino right in the middle of the strip.

Mirage and MGM are great choices too, very nice pool scenes. I'd skip the Linq.

Of the three you listed, I'd go with MB.

She’s turning 21- Does she want a Vegas “Pool Party” or “just” a Vegas pool?

Pool Party- big name DJ. Extremely crowded. Extremely fun. Extremely expensive.

Pool- a bit more mellow. Crowded but not nightclub crowded. Can be a good time, but not crazy. A cabana with a f&b minimum will be a little more reasonable. (I love the Wynn European / adult pool)

Mandalay Bay. By far, the best pool experience with a wave pool, beach, topless pool, lazy river and more. Also, I disagree that it is far off the beaten path. A quick monorail ride to Excalibur takes you across from MGM Grand. The hotel is fabulous. nice rooms. good buffet. I always enjoy it there.

    MGM.
Great, all-around, middle priced property. It gives you the several pool options including a pool club on site: Wet Republic. Nicer facilities and rooms than Linq and TI. Not as isolated as Mandalay Bay.

This connection may be able to get you a deal at MGM since they are affiliated...

Scratch the Linq off your list.

If you're not doing a pool party, I would suggest the Flamingo. Always a younger party crowd in there

We just dropped 1k for a cabana in April at the Flamingo, so depending on the date, its not always cheap. They do have a DJ on the weekends so I think they are trying to go for the pool party scene, at least part time.

Having stayed there on several occasions, the pool area is great and while the gaming, eating, and even room options are less than top notch, the location more than makes up for it.

This. The regular pool will be lively. Wet Republic is there if you guys want a pool party. You mentioned a cabana; MGM is one of the few places on the Strip that does a food & beverage minimum rather than a rental fee. If you’ll be spending enough to meet the minimum anyway then a “free” cabana is a hell of a perk IMO.

You said you want to pack a bunch of stuff in- if I had the same scenario as you do, I might stay at Flamingo for the mid strip convenience and lower room rates then just get a cabana at MGM one of the days. That way you’d still have a great pool on the non cabana days and you’d knock out experiencing south strip the MGM day.

Agree with others on MGM. Great pools, emphasis on the plural. The Lazy River pool is great - very lively! If you want to be more laid back, they have those as well. Mirage is also a good option - great pool, but more toned down. Depends what you're hoping for..

My answers are more towards "Also, any must do's for a 21st celebration?"

Based off my experience and my friends. The MGM, Linq (young people LOVE O'sheas cause there is beer pong), and Mandalay Bay, are great options for the younger crowd (I'm 27). There's also Wet Republic at MGM and Daylight Beach Club at the MB. Both of them are great for pool parties. I also enjoyed Encore Beach Club. Oh, and at the Cosmopolitan Marquee Dayclub.... that is one of the best. If I rated these best to... still awesome: Encore and Marquee are equal -> Wet Republic -> Daylight.

If your god-daughter is into dancing and drinking (dunno why anyone young wouldn't like it), then a nightclub is best. I've taken many friends when they turned 21 and while Beach Clubs are great... drinking at 10am is not as enjoyable as drinking at a Nightclub at 11pm. What dates are they going? You can look up who is performing.
While women can get in free, I don't know any girl I've taken who has regret putting in ~$150 for bottle service where they can sit, take pictures, and feel extra (link provided for young-culture definition).

I'd go to a dayclub by guestlist. Nightclub by bottle service. For the standard pool-day, just get a daybed.
For pictures, go to Mandalay Bay's Foundation Room. I don't know anyone who has ever stayed for more than a couple hours but it has an amazing view of the strip. Talk to concierge for guest list.
