Thanks everyone! I'm in Vegas this weekend at Aria and really enjoyed walking through all the Boyd properties. I especially like Cal and MSS. MSS train theme seems Disney like to me.

You and I are a lot alike, I too am a low roller and stick to VP. I love all of the downtown Boyd properties and have stayed at all of them.

First, lets address the safety issue. I have never felt unsafe walking from the Cal or MSS to FSE. There is also a sky bridge that connects the Cal and MSS. I've braved the sidewalk along main street with my wife along the front of the Vegas Club late at night and had no problems. Now, El Cortez is another story. Though much has been done to address safety around there, the two blocks along Fremont st. from the end of the canopy to the ElCo are shady at best and I would not feel safe to let my wife travel it alone.

Of the three Boyd properties(which is stay at exclusively in DT), I would have to recommend MSS above all else. The prices are usually the same as Fremont and the Cal. The rooms are the biggest at MSS and the nicest IMO. I have always had all star service at all Boyd properties, even as a low roller. I stick to MSS for the following reasons. Best hotel service and gaming experience, they have 1c progressive VP. The restaurants are great and very affordable. The buffet is my favorite in Vegas, its also been voted top 5 of Vegas by LVRJ and USA Today. The Triple 7 brewery has award winning micro brew(made on site) and some of the best pizza and burgers I've had in downtown. The room rates are always super competative. The staff always treats us like family there.

I hope you give them a chance, they will win your business for life.

I would like to address the safety issue. I am a 63 year old woman. Almost all of my trips are solo trips (But I do meet friends there) I have no problem walking to ElCo, day or night. Nor taking the shortcuts through Binions to Cal to MSS. I am extremely careful walking via LVC via the deserted areas.

I grew up in NYC, so I have always had the street smarts to be aware of my surroundings.

    Best Boyd Property Downtown

My husband and myself last year stayed at the Fremont Hotel, never stayed there before and would stay again which we are this year. The hotel employees were wonderful they helped us no matter what we asked them about. The rooms are a little smaller then some of the others but no big issue. Had alot of hot water for showers, toilet flushed, and ac worked wonderful. Stayed on the side that had no noise. Just loved this hotel. Try it you will like it.

I stayed at MSS for a few nights and walked there from FSE all times of day and night in all sorts of states (always walked via binnions>Cal) and never felt unsafe.

Even though it's not far, I just ended up finding the walk a hassle in the end as I was spending most of my time on freemont. I'm a fan on the 777 at MSS but next time I'll stay on freemont somewhere, esp as there are now a few renovated and nicer places still cheap and just visit the 777
