    and so it goes

Paperposter, I’ve been thinking about your post and what I believe was your intent. My conclusion is that your post is a useful instructional example that if understood can answer questions that many pose. In my three plus decades of decadence in Vegas I have had about 15 interactions with hosts in which they have initiated.

A few years ago I received a similar letter that you offered, but from a Caesars host. That host has not given me the world, but instead has made my trips easier and more enjoyable getaways, and I value his efforts.

My first contact with a host was in the early eighties at the Riv when it was one of most happening places there was; hard to imagine now I know, but true. The Riv gave me rooms whenever I wanted and food for years to come. Sometime later, after a dozen hours at one of the Golden Nugget craps tables, a host came to me and suggested a break and offered a nice dinner at Vic and Anthony’s.

My most recent host contact was in Ballys and Paris a couple months ago. In the recent cases, and it was twice at Ballys on two successive days, the hosts showed at the machine I was playing and knew my name. None really did anything for me, as I expected, but evidently they were compelled to contact me. My conclusion with today’s system; that my card insertion into a VP machine came up on their monitor in their office. When I challenged them as to what they could do for me, all responded that with the current system it was mostly about points earned, but that I should charge all expenses to the room and when I checked out that the host on duty would take care of me, which indeed occurred. To offer a point of reference, I’m Diamond under CET and enjoy the lounge and show tickets etc., and I am mid level at couple places downtown; Silver Card at Boyd for example.

Bottom line from my experiences, I agree a host will find you if you rate one. I don’t claim to be a comp or ADT expert, but it seems that many are unsure what to expect in the way of comps, and that though one can initiate contact with a host and may get a one time perk, that unless one’s regular, consistent, play warrants, the significant comps will not continue. Play as you can afford within your comfort level, and if there are comps to be had, take what is a value to you and enjoy the experience.

I had a host e-mail me 2-3 weeks after staying at the Wynn for my first time. He gave me his card when I was at the tables.

    thanks guys for the response.

i always see questions here do i need a host , what does a host do , how do i get , do i need one, does me play deserve one.

i found at cet you need less of a host but at mlife you really need a host.
palms for table players must have a host ,i belive the same for hardrock
and boyd properties for tables yes slot no.

    hopefully this helps somebody

all i was trying to was open up a conversation about one way it happens, actualy 2 as i posted about a week early about a host at mgm contacting by email and offering there services and what they required for free show tickets .and a few off us where surprised on how much play the wanted for them and how they wanted double the play at craps compared to bj.

Sorry, but paperposter has been be a reliable source of info, for Vegas addicts, newcomers, whatever, for a long time.

I don't gamble enough to warrant a Host, and i never will, even though i have been going to Vegas for 30 years.

I always look forward to his posts.........even the ones that don't concern me. Why?..............because it's Vegas baby!!

I don't consider this bragging. I consider it sharing - and if we can't share this kind of thing on this forum, where else can we share it. What, am I going to tell my sister about the great offer I got from a casino, my non-gambling, non-smoking, non-drinking sister?

Although it is really cool to get letters like this, you don't have to wait. I gave MGM Grand a lot of play during my November trip staying at NY NY - or to put it bluntly, I lost my ass there. I hoped it would generate a marketing offer - but nothing. I called and got a very nice offer from the host on duty. One night comped in a terrace suite, $500 in free play and $500 resort credit.

    Me neither.

paperposter lives in CityCenter and it sounds like he's on a permanent vacation full of gambling and partying all over the world. He doesn't need to post a form letter from some host to make me feel anymore of envious of him.

Thanks for the insight. As a semi-annual visitor, it's always good to know what it takes to have a host hook onto my bait (aka gambling budget). Keep informing us of what it takes to move up the comp chain. There are those that are close to your level, such as myself, that are always interested to see what awaits us at the next level of comp paradise. . . . .

    Completely agree.
Paperposter contributes often and has more up to date info than most of us visitors.
