Bally's AC 12/2-4. No Mr. Fieri, I don't want an ice cold beer right now!

    My Trip Report

Although I have been going down to AC for the past 25 yrs, I have usually done so with one thing in mind, gaming. To be honest, I am not so sure what AC's fate will be, especially the ocean side ( the bay side seems to be doing a bit better, overall. At least IMO). In saying that, I have been trying to branch out a bit and take things in.
    So-
Before heading to Bally's (which was comped for both Friday and Saturday night, not typical for me, usually only Sun-Thur) we stopped at a restaurant, Angelo's Fairmount Tavern. This place has been recommended to me by many BJ dealers and other guests over the years, so we decided to try it. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! There were three of us and the bill was $83, granted there was no bar bill but we ordered two apps, shrimp jammers & mozz sticks, and three meals, lasagna w/sausage, penne vodka & Terry's Seafood Medley over cappellini, plus, there was warm rolls and a garden salad served family style with an interesting house dressing. The place is very near Bass Pro Shop, if anyone was thinking to try it I would say go, based on our experience it was all good.

As for Bally's, even though it was about 7:30pm when we finally got there, there was still a solid 20 min wait to check in. It sounds silly, but I wish they would bring back the Plat check in, just sayin'. We were given a room in the Garden Tower, which lacks any real view of anything but the rooms and bathrooms are spacious, and honestly, I have seen the ocean enough to last a lifetime. (I've been a Jersey Girl for 46 years....) So this tower is fine by me, I actually kind of like it. It seems quieter than the Bally's tower.

One thing, more than anything, that drove me crazy for the weekend was the ENDLESS plug for Guy Fiere's BBQ-ribs, mac & cheese, and an ice cold beer, that blared over the loud speakers out on the boardwalk every few mins. Dude, we're out on the boardwalk in December, it's about 39 degrees outside, NO an ice cold beer does not sound good right now!!! Bally's really needs to do something about this plug ( even in the summer, they could scale it back a bit). Please, at least make it seasonal.

Friday night BJ proved to be fruitful, nothing more to say about that ::thumbsup:
Saturday, one of the three of us was feeling a little green (no, not me) so my son and I ventured out of the city to look around Brigantine. He's driving with his permit, so you can imagine my thrill ride with him behind the wheel going down Pacific and Atlantic Ave's. I had no idea there were such gorgeous homes over there and nice short beaches.

Saturday night- The Tropicana had a Holiday sing-along on the Boardwalk and Santa made an appearance. It was nice to see people gathered together just being nice, and even to each other. I think there needs to be more PR stuff like this down there but who am I??

Sunday morning I found a little redemption at Resort's, lol. (pic below) They have done a nice job inside, it looks really updated. At least to me, as I haven't been in there in years and years.

Groupon had a deal for the Absecon Lighthouse at the northern end(?) of AC. This was the first time in all the visits to AC that I actually went. We climbed all 228 steps and actually took in a different perspective of the city. Plus, we had a gentleman that worked there give us a "guided" tour on the way up. It was really nice.

In the end, I took in some new experiences of AC, had a free room, good food, spent time with the family (daughter wasn't there, next time) and made some money. What more could a girl ask for? And hey, if you made it all the way to the end of this, yay you and thanks!

Thanks for the trip report, I'm a big fan of Angelo's Fairmont Tavern as well. A very reasonable red sauce Italian restaurant with free parking. Love the Linguni with Clams in a white sauce. Another throwback joint is Tony's Baltimore Grill adjacent to Tropicana, but for pizza only. How can you screw up ravioli, but they did, way overcooked and waterlogged.

Guy's BBQ right on the Boardwalk..... never tried it, I think it opened in the spring. He must have a deal with Caesars corporate because this is his second place at Ballys and he just opened up a restaurant at Harrah's in Chester, PA. I really like the new bar that opens onto the Boardwalk and of course, the Mountain bar with the $5 craps when staffed.

Now that casino gaming has been voted down for north Jersey, Atlantic City has a reprieve, time to get its sh!t together. But the state just took over operations of the city in an attempt to avoid a bankruptcy filing, let's see how that goes.

Great report, HG! Sounds like you had a blast!

As a retired Driver Educator, I wish your son the best of luck--I mean skill :D--in the rest of his driving practice. The AC area was just a tad too far to take my students to on their practice drives...

Nice report! But walk between Horseshoe and Gold Strike Tunica and you will wish you heard that Guy Fieri ad again...The Gold Strike loop just outside the casino is the same 2 30-second ads, over and over, 24 hours a day.
