    Apologies if posted elsewhere.

I always thought Sheldon was a cheapskate. IrishDave was really, really wrong. Not only is he doing the right thing, he wrote this op-ed in the NY Post to challenge other business leaders to do the same.

"Our job as business leaders is now as simple as it is challenging. It is to maximize the number of employees and their families that we can help — and help them for as long as possible."

He's going to be taking a lot more of my money in the future.

I posted it in my news dump today, but it's fine to share here. Wynn has a similar statement about pay for 60 days that has a thread here.

All I ask is that we keep politics and political opinion out of the discussion. :)

I am sure many may have some strong opinions about he and his wife. But, as Sonya said, this is not the place to share those - either way.

I will say I was educated quite a bit reading about their backgrounds on the wiki pages. Worth a read.

Again, not saying anything good or bad. Just very interesting history for both of them.

Looks like Caesar's is doing healthcare thru June 30 and 14 days of pay, but the clocked started 2 weeks ago.

"Those furloughed will remain employees of the company throughout the furlough period, according to the Thursday statement. Caesars is paying furloughed employees for the first two weeks of closures, and employees can use their available paid time off after that. In Nevada, most workers’ pay will run through Friday, Broome said."

I bet Sheldon still is a cheapskate. You have to run a tight ship to be profitable in a competitive industry. LVS never would have gotten to where it is today if it was consistently overly generous with customers and employees.

He's seeing the same thing I'm seeing. This is a national emergency, not a typical ebb and flow of a normal business cycle. The rules of both business and morality are different in times like this. It speaks to his character and wisdom that he can tell the difference.

Thanks for posting that OP-ED. It's very inspirational!

This is a very well written piece and it comes from the heart. Say what you will about how he has gotten to where he is now; he clearly hasn't forgotten his roots. This can easily get lost once someone finds success. I know all of us here at VMB will do our best to remember what companies did during this event and will support them as best we can once we emerge.

Does make one wonder, not to seem the cynic, if a calculation was made that 60 days would be the lowest acceptable number. Also there is the question of tips as a percentage of income for quite a few employees. Adelson is a horse's ass, all politics aside, and that is not just my opinion. Local friends who have met and who have observed him him say the same.

But none of the above, or anything Adelson or anyone else wrote, would affect my decision to stay or not stay, play or not play in his casinos. That decision is mathematical, and for me the figures have not added up for at least ten years. As always, your mileage may vary.
