Both appeal to the need in me, but if you had to pick one, which one? Thanks
So, I asked my non Vegas loving bf, who's been to both places with me. He said of the two he would go with the Atomic Testing Museum.
He says it's got more "technical/ mechanical" things.
I liked both but they are just two different themed places offering completely different information.
Plus he liked that we walked from the strip to Atomic Museum.
I found the Atomic Testing museum to be pretty interesting , would go again.
My brother and I took the tour to the Atomic Test site in Mercury Nevada, coordinated by the Atomic Museum, so I am partial to the Atomic Museum. Visited the Atomic Museum three times, hit the Mob Museum once..
I have a interest in the Mafia as well, but I didn't learn much at the Mob museum. We spent 2 hours there. Much of the exhibits were general mob exhibits, there was not a big emphasis on Las Vegas or mob infiltration of the casinos through the 1980s. I would recommend the film Casino as a better primer for the subject for someone interested in the subject.
The Atomic Museum is pretty stable, they don't change out a lot of the materials from year to year, but sometime have special exhibits. For those who have never went, or haven't for a few years, the exhibits cover WWII through the end of the testing era, with a special emphasis on the test conducted in the various areas near Mercury, NV, about 90 minutes west of Las Vegas. You can watch old videos, see various equipment and artifacts from the testing era, and gain knowledge regarding the era itself, and the scientific and political challenges of the cold war era.
Unless you have no interest in the atomic testing era in Nevada, I would recommend the Atomic Museum.
Thanks everyone! I’m going to buy tickets to the Atomic museum. I didn’t realize you can walk there from the strip.
Just go on East Flamingo, cross Koval and walk, lol. FYI, we are daily "walkers". Also, Groupon almost always has a discount offer for Atomic Museum.

The atomic testing museum has me intrigued, but we only have about 30 hours of free time over 6 days and I have to get my wife to every property per her orders...so short on time. Would an hour or so be sufficient to go through it?
Mob Museum definitely requires a few hours. Atomic Museum could probably be done in an hour or so.
I’ve been to both. I’d voted for Mob Museum. The Atomic Testing museum was great, but it was very sobering and kind of left you feeling for humanity, that these weapons could destroy humanity.
You think an hour? We spent about 3 hours there. We spent 8 at the Mob Museum and felt like we could’ve spent more time.
Cindy and I walked there. And just to underscore how hard we are...we did it in July. Mid-Day. OK, maybe "hard" wasn't the best adjective.
Anyway, I found the Atomic Museum to be pretty fascinating. Never been to the mob museum...and, being honest, it's not on the agenda.
In to out was probably 1 1/2 hours. There were only two of us so it's probably longer for a larger group. We just followed the circuit.
The reason the Mob Museum covers all organized crime and not Vegas exclusivity is because the official name is the
national museum of organized crime and law enforcement It meant to cover more then just Las Vegas.
There's a promo code right now "SAVE" that knocks it down 25% more!
We read most of what was in each display. I could see spending less time there, but we weren’t pressed for time.
A big thank you to everyone who suggested going - the museum was a blast! The ability to see some of the things I only read about was truly special.
Thanks! Just ordered and printed my coupon!
You can do the Atomic museum in an hour. It was interesting, but a lot of the exhibits are equipment stashed behind glass, so if you're not too engineering-inclined, you can move through pretty quickly.
Don't walk to/from the strip in the summer though. I made that mistake. It's just far enough that you'll die.
Which one did you visit?
