I was just thinking today about how Atlantic City is having a really difficult time right now and I think I know exactly what the problem is. With my level of play, I can get five free nights any night of the week in Las Vegas at any CET property except Nobu. With that same level of play, I get four nights, but no Saturdays with mid-range rooms at Bally's and Harrah's but only Sun-Thur at Caesars AC. I get $200 of free play in Vegas and $35 of free play in AC.

Meanwhile, all the local papers in NJ can talk about is how AC is making less than half the profits they made a decade ago, because people aren't coming anymore.

I still go to AC once in a while because it's nearby when I want to get my game on, but like most people I prefer going to Vegas because they give me more for my gambling dollar. If AC really wants to survive, they need to address this problem, because a lot of people on the East Coast bypass them and just go to Vegas.

There is probably a long list of reasons. We have been there twice. Fun place. Boardwalk is a plus, though the two best casinos are not on the water - Harrahs and Borgota.

Biggest drag is dealing with the airport for us. I know in the heyday most of their clientele came via bus or car. Other options in MD, PA, NY etc. are surely a big reason.

Meh, we stopped going to AC once the Showboat closed, they had the best suites there with a balcony overlooking the ocean. We've tried staying at Harrah's, just not a fan there, besides being away from the boardwalk. Thought about establishing play at Borgata and the Trop but eh. For me, there's simply more to do in Vegas than there is in AC.

It was worse than this ten years ago when they were making twice the money.

The issue isn't that you can do better in LV. The average person could always get a better deal somewhere in LV. AC doesn't have many casinos and the room supply is pretty limited relative to what is demanded on the weekend and during the summer from its feeder market (NY/Philly/DC.) What is crushing them is that their feeder market can now go gamble in Philly, Maryland, etc.

AC died when Philly opened casinos.

Yeah gaming is down but you also lost the hotel rooms from the Taj, the Plaza, the Showboat, and the Hilton already. Plus Revel. This is still a market that doesn't have nearly enough rooms to meet the peak demand at an affordable price.

AC is struggling due to competition from surrounding states and a failure to reinvent itself. Overall gaming revenue is about half of its peak and the closure of 5 casinos may have "right sized" the market. Unfortunately, the casinos in AC haven't developed its non-gaming revenue sources like Vegas.

Saturday night stays are at a premium because the demand for rooms exceeds the supply, even in the winter months. Sometimes they will release these rooms as you get closer to the date of your stay. People on the east coast are still coming down, just in reduced numbers than before.

There are a ton of people within a 3 hour drive of AC which makes this a great destination for a quick getaway compared to a 5 hour flight and the hassle of getting to the airport in time.

Plus, in another 3 months, the summer wind will be blowing in from across the sea.......

I don't see that at all, I was in Caesars AC in Feb, called my host and got 3x rooms comped for 5 nights each, going again in August, this time 2x rooms comped for 7 nights each, along with $1000 in free play for each stay.

I went to AC last weekend for the first time ever. I often go to Vegas being from Southern Ca. From my experience of AC the city itself, the boardwalk and the Casinos touching the boardwalk is that its seriously run down. I tell my friends and co-workers that AC (boardwalk area and city) reminds me of downtown Vegas Pre-Revitalization. I stayed at Harrahs, the pool was pretty decent and the casino was fun and comparable to Vegas. I made it a mission to visit every single casino in AC (heck only 7).
I think if AC started with better offers, cheaper flights and marketed the boardwalk and shopping experience better then it wouldnt be such a ghost town. They need to offer something that Vegas doesnt have... Cheers everyone!

Its the exact opposite for me. AC gives me MUCH more value than Vegas. Add in flights (when they actually go direct from chicago) are only $75 round trip to ACY and its a great bargain.

In LV, my offers come with a room. I must book the room to get the dining credit or free play. In AC, I only have to show up. Probably due to them pulling from a locals market. Anyway, below is what I can have if I spent 4 days 3 nights in AC. I'd have a suite at either Borgata or Trop.

Mind you, CET is a total shit show in AC with offers. I have like $25.00 in free play that I can use once a week and $25.00 in food credit plus the room. Complete waste of my time. But the Trop & Borg are good stuff! If only they had direct flights from Chicago year round. I checked today, and they still havent added direct flights yet!

$50 in food at the Borg.

CET is a joke in AC in terms of offers. Not sure why I give them play to be honest.

That aside, AC offers a one thing that Vegas and every other casino market doesn't have: waterfront. Honestly, if they took the time to reinvest in the boardwalk, AC could make something of itself. It needs a great marketing strategy to show that it's not some frumpy city and a real destination that's much cheaper than Vegas. Vegas is overpriced imo whereas AC offers gamblers value in terms of food and entertainment. And that's another thing, AC needs to do a better job of securing talent / shows.

I'm the same as Grid, but plenty of offers with CET, here are my CET Total Rewards offers I currently have for Caesars in AC, this is on top of whatever I can get from my host, eg free play and comped rooms.

I've been to AC one time. Trop just sent an offer for a free TV. When the weather warms up I'll fly CHI-Philly and go again. Their restaurant comps aren't good for the places I like, but they are going out of their way to get me back. Maybe this changes with warmer weather, I'm not sure.

Nice quiet rooms, very good baccarat, ocean, and decent restaurants.

Yeah, the only two properties that do a good job of bringing in talent and shows are the Borgata and Tropicana. Everybody else has "Boogie to the 70s Nights". When the Showboat had the House of Blues, there were great bands all the time, but that's gone now. I'm hoping that when the Hard Rock casino opens in 2018, it will push some of the other casinos to improve their non-gaming entertainment. I haven't gone to AC specifically to see a show since Caesars comped me tickets to "Elf: The Broadway Musical" two years ago.

The Who are appearing at Boardwalk Hall this summer.

How will you get the TV onto the plane?

De gustibus non est disputandum. There is no accounting for taste. Some folks like the beach, sun and ocean. Others don't like sand in their shoes, salt water, greenhead flies. I never made it to the Wisconsin Dells, but I hear good things about it.

With the TV promos they ship them to whatever address you give. I have a 40" Samsung Smart TV via a promo that was delivered a while ago and is still sitting in my hallway as I need help installing it. LOL.

I go once or twice a year for between 5 and 7 days at a time and I earn approximately 30,000 TC's each trip.
