    My Trip Report

Backstory: For the last 4 year, wife and I have always had an annual trip to Vegas, 2 June, 2 March and an annual weekend in Atlantic City. Life changed in April with our baby girl and so Vegas goes to back burner. Not a financial issue, simply time. We both like 5-7 day trips to Vegas and we don't want to spend that much time away from her. So after some discussion we have decided that for the foreseeable future we will be taking more frequent trips to Atlantic City. 3 hour drive makes 2 and 3 night getaways easy, plus a quick return in an emergency. This is the first of what will be hopefully regular trips and I intend to post write-ups here.

Play levels: I usually play 1 or 2 dollar BP but also like to mix in .50 cent triple play and 5 line .25 cent on double double. I try to earn at least 1,000 TC per day. I'm big on the envelope system and won't play over to get the TCs. Wife is the opposite in playing tables 6-10 hours a day, mixing in Pai Gow Poker, BJ, HC Flush, 4 Card and Roulette. avg bet is 25 for most games including bonus bets.

8/5 Left home about 7 am for the 3.5 hour drive (including stops) and rolled into Caesars valet at 10:30. Checked in and room not ready yet. Upgraded to Senator Suite (100/nt) at check in and was told to call host at end for comp (more on that later), and off to play, front desk says they will call when room is ready.

Walked to Ballys and she played tables while I slotted around until 1230, lunch time. Thought about Crafty Crab (new seafood place) but found it overpriced and lacking any decent options. Called an Audible to Phillips Seafood and had Happy hour apps and a drink. Called that room is ready and went up Ocean Tower Ocean View Senator Suite was beautiful. Steam Shower and Jetted Tub were a nice bonus.

Bags called for and got settled, then down to play at Caesars for a few hours. Dinner reservations were at Amada at Ocean at 830. Wife is holding her own and I am getting my ass handed to me on 1 and 2 dollar bonus poker. Down about 800 heading to dinner with only about 700 TC earned. It was simply too damn hot to be outside so we took the tram to Ocean and arrived about 7. Went to play BJ together and wife went on a bonus bet tear with match dealer. I walked up about 125, but wife walked up 400 thanks to 3 suited matched at $70 apiece.

Dinner at Amada was epic. We had multiple amazing tapas and a few drinks. Total with tip was 240 and back to Ballys by cab.

Wife and i played side by side triple play VP for .25 cents and she held her own on deuces, I made about 150 thanks to quad aces and quad 3s on bonus poker.

Heading back to Caesars out night takes a turn. We hit a couple machines in Caesars and she say she is ready for bed. So we start to walk up and I want to check my caesars total as I know I am right in the ball park of 1000 but don't want to end up with money in my pocket and 980 credits. We stop at one of the giant 5 line quick hits machines to check points and conclude I am at about 1100 combined. Wife declares we must now play this machine as we have my card in it. Both put in 50 in the form of 1 100 dollar bill (fully believe the $50 superstition :) ) and start playing alternating who hit the button. Down to 50 and we hit the free games bonus. Plays out at $49 dollars and wife is amusingly pissed that we now have $99 in this machine. While she is yelling at it over the $1 which would have resulted in a cash out and bed, I hit the button and line up 8 quick hits for a $5000 hand pay (our first ever). Now she can't believe it at all. Hand pay took about 15 minutes and I tipped 40 because the guy brought 20s, I think if he had only brought 100s I probably would have tipped one of those.

Play just a little more and also play off the win and go to bed with about 1350 TC. Since TCs are doubled in August I didn't mind going over the 1,000.

    Day 2 to follow

Loose plan was to wake up and play, have an early lunch, and head to Borgata for a Bingo tournament and dinner at Izakaya. Wife takes one look at the weather forecast and decides we are not going outside today. Since Caesars and Ballys are connected, we can play and drink and eat and occasionally look at the ocean. Cancel reservations and we go down for coffee and cookie before gamble.

Head towards Wild Wild West and start playing a pair of Quick Hit Machines mostly to charge our phones for a bit. Wife is a max bet player and I am more of a slow churn of money betting 1-2 dollars a spin. With 1.60 bet I hit the bonus and score 7 games 2 x with all quick hits wild. Spin 6 hits 7 quick hits on lines for an 1100 dollar spin. Total bonus was 1138 and just under a hand pay! Move over to Halrey Davidson and hit the maxi free games at 1.60 a spin for another 300 and I am way up to start the day. Slot around for another hour or so and mostly lose back some until 1100. At 11 I swipe for the RC multiplier and get a 7x multiplier so now it's go time. BOGO lunch around 1230 but otherwise, play pretty steady from 11 until about 4 (including a 2 hour Pai Gow session to make the wife happy and end up with about 1100 TC before going up for a nap and to change for dinner. Come back down and wife decides to play HC Flush, she hits a 5 card straight fllush with a 6 card flush for a quick 500 dollar payout. Meanwhile I am losing at everything I play lol. Fortunately having been 1400 before breakfast I am still up around 600 or so. Dinner is Gordon Ramsay for wellington and sticky toffee pudding... so good.

More gambling after dinner until about 11 and end the day with about 1700 TCs earned and up about 500 for the day and about 2500 on the trip.

One other thing I like to do for money management is when I book a good ticket (double up a hundred) I cash and put in my wallet and then start fresh, that way when I burn through the bills I have I can cash out the vouchers and know where I am for the day and decide what to do play wise.

Day 3 and notes coming next

8/7 is getaway day for us. Up early because baby at home has us trained, and wife decides she might like to get a facial since they are on special. She calls and sets that up for 11 and off to Cafe Roma for breakfast. They have a nice 20$ breakfast buffet including beverages so reasonable and good and quick. Checks all the boxes and we are in and out in about 30 minutes. We then proceed to play slots and earn credits for the next 2 hours. I am slow grinding at Harley Davidson on 80 cents because the Mega is 130 free games. I end up hitting the mini and then a great line pay and walk away from that up 100, play a nickle quick hits and get a good line pay for about a 100 and walk away from that up about 120. At this point everything I am playing is hitting and I take Britiney for 100 and then a super wheel bonus for another 100. I move to dollar Bonus poker and in about 1/2 hour I hit four 2s followed by a straight flush. Multiple fulls house have the ticket at about 600 from 100 so I decide to switch to 2 dollar and hang there for a while before cashing out at 400. 1030 and we have already booked about 450 TCs and we head to the spa. I pay since I am way up and it's nice to do and then set about a 90 minute mission to do all the last minute running around. Hit the boardwalk for AC clothes for the baby and acquire a mermaid bib and 2 onesies, then the candy place attached to ballys for candy for the baby sitting grandma and for my office staff. The to WWW for sports bet futures and to cash tickets*, get an NFL l 3 teamer for opening day and futures bets on Penguins for EC and SC. Get everything done with about 20 minutes to spare so I settle into a wrecking ball game to earn the last 29 credits to hit 500 and the bonus. I try to hit 500 last day just so they see I play then too. The game is fun and up and down and I end up quickly hitting the 500 mark and hit a line pay to get even. Move over to dollar bonus poker so I can kill time and thanks to a run of fulls house and flushes, I run the ticket up to 225 and cash out as wife comes down.

We head to valet and claim bags and are on our way home by 1230 and with stop and some stupid traffic are holding our baby by 430. Next trip is a 3 nighter for rodeo November 9-12 and we are already.

Total accounting and comments on the sports book and host to follow.

Wow! Congrats on the quick hits win! That’s fantastic! We like the all day HH at Phillips, the Stout is very tasty and they have a fish and chips appetizer for about $10 that’s a perfect portion. Cafe Roma is a great find for breakfast, we also like Johnny Rockets at Bally’s.

    Looking forward to the recap.

    Notes:
TC: I have found that I actually like the way Total rewards lets lower players earn statuses and takes fairly good care of them. Our combined budget between us is about 1500 a day when we play so we don't usually go nuts. This year we had 2 trips and between the initial quest and this doubler plus bonuses I will be diamond for november with about 17,000 tc is december. If play goes well, we may chase the 25k mark for free DL next year. In exchange for the 1,000 point a day play they get from me I have free rooms always, free slot play every day( not tied to the room) usually $20. I also get offers for gifts every week, invitations to all the Bingo tournaments and some slot tournaments. Starting in November with diamond I will also be done with resort fees. I know many say AC isn't a good value, but I find personally, the meals to be more reasonable, the drinks to be better pricing, the the comps more readily available and the beach to be there if that interests you.

Host: I have never actually had a host with total rewards, but this trip a host from Caesars introduced herself. and told me to call host on duty before check out Tuesday to handle any charges. I still don't think I have a host, but I always call on the day I am leaving and they have always taken everything off when I leave. In February it was 2 comped nights, dinner for 6 at GR and 2 buffets. I try not to overcharge or abuse it and am always willing to pay for it myself. This trip we charged less to the room than normal since we knew we had the 200 dollars in upgrades. Total to the room including the upgrades and resort fees etc was right at about 500. Called the office and got a very nice gentlemen who informed me that since I paid the upsell at check-in they were not allowed to comp it. He was willing to comp the rest of the expenses, but since we had about 75 dollars in rcs he had to use I honestly didn't think it was worth it, so I told him I would just pay for everything. I figured I would keep the reward credits for the DL next trip.
I also told him that he should let the front desk know that they don't comp the upsell rates ever as I was told at check in to call the host and have it taken care of. He apologized and said he would and he would let his manager know too. - He called back not 10 minutes later to tell me he spoke with the attendant who checked me in and that she was unaware of that and as a result of this he spoke with his manager who agreed to comp the entire room including resort fees for us. He did use up the reward credits but now it felt "worth it". Also with the 7x multiplier I already have about 7,000 RCs for next trip. I was thoroughly impressed with the service. He also indicated that he requested a suite for the next trip, but that weekends are tougher and a suite committee reviews it so he wouldn't know until the Thursday before.

Sports book: The Bally's sports book is currently a shit show. They have hired a full staff of people who may have never watched sports, let alone bet on them. The 2 managers know what's happening but the staff just didn't seem to get it. Couple examples: I made 9 individual baseball bets at one time on Monday and was given 10 tickets. 1 for each bet and a 9 team parlay for all the bets. Hilarious because they cap parlays at 8 but the software gave me 9. 10.50 bet (because it was supposed to be on a -105 total) with a 7300 potential payout. Manager offered me a refund, but obviously i chose to set my money on fire and kept it because if it hit... it didn't. Tuesday instead of 4 individual baseball bets they gave me a 3 team parlay. The lady also argued with me that the eastern conference final in hockey and stanley cup are the same things. The mange saved the day and then the lady tried to pay me instead of collecting money for the tickets (I had cashed a few small winners). When I returned the money she gave me along with the money I owed she was confused and thought I was paying her twice. Manager said they are learning so that they can be in good shape by football season and I said they need more people who understand sports betting.

Overall, an amazing trip and looking forward to the next. I came home up about 3500 wife up 1700 a pending future bet on week 1 and we can't wait for November. Out of pocket I paid for Phillips at 65 dollars, Amada at 240 and cafe roma for 40.

As an aside I love the drink ordering machines on the slots, but they could be made better by simply asking customer to select spirit and then mixer for basic drinks. Like I was able to order Jack and Diet and Crown and diet from the machine along with well vodka and diet, but not grey goose and diet. I think that they should offer the spirit first and then offer the mix or the cocktail next. IE choose whiskey, select crown royal, choose manhattan or choose diet or rocks. I also love that they offer small upcharges for high end spirits and mixers. Vodak and energy free, belvedere and red bull 3 dollars. same thing with whiskeys and such.

    Thanks for reading.

Heading to AC rather than Las Vegas this year myself. Been quite a while since I've been there.

Being born and raised in the 8th Ring of Hell as far as heat and miserably brutal weather is concerned (Tampa) I picked Jan 7 -14th. Splitting it between Caesars and Borgata.

    Nice TR...Thanks.

The only other place I’ve played regularly other than Vegas is Atlantic City. There’s just something about a bunch of casinos in walking distance that appeals to me. Nice report.

That area is a cave, just a ton of wasted space. I read that the current sports book is temporary until a new one is built out. With all of the corporate resources available to Bally’s, you’d think staffing the book with competent cashiers would be the least of the problems. That space in Wild Wild West has the potential to be a really big sports book, but I wonder if they will limp in with a half measure because Caesars is right next door.
