The pit bosses always get annoyed with me when I ask for my average bet and play time. One even said to me in a rude tone " what do YOU think it should be?" . Is there a polite way of getting this information? That doesn't make every pit boss give you the death stare?

Your first question I can answer, though VCH can certainly weigh in too. The play you're describing will NOT make your host happy and will hurt your future offers.

While you can go from 4 to 8 hours with half the avg bet and expect the same comps, going in the other direction will not have the same effect. They quote 4 hours as the minimum required time because they want to get a fair shot at your money. They don't like to see the "hit and run" method of play, where you bet large, get up early, and walk away as soon as you're up a few units (which can be a significant amount for a big player).

So while 4 hours @ 1k per hand and 8 hours @ $500 per hand will be viewed the same for comps and future offers, 1 hour @ 4k per hand will NOT, even though they all generate identical theo.

Will a host comp rooms, meals, deals, etc. to somebody new that hasn't stayed at that property before in an attempt to gain that person for future stays?

depends, theres a whale list so yes.if your on the certian radar list yes but otherwise no

but the top players are realy know so they can get what they want were ever they go even with no history

also host do move around so if u find your old host a new property u can probaly get a good deal wit no history

there are times when casino do fishing offers or like what cosmo did over here ,but those are the exception too the rule as they get abused alot ask sls

Hi I haven't been to Vegas in 5 years but when I did go regularly I stayed at MGM properties. We got everything comped( suite food drinks limo and quite a bit of free play). We have decided to start going back again and are thinking of going with a Total rewards casino because we have one close to where we live but we don't gamble there the way we do when on vacation in Vegas. I was wondering if I should ask for a Total Rewards host or just book my room through the web site(it's comped)? Btw MGM host did offer us suite and limo with VIP check in for this trip but still thinking about Total Rewards. Thanks for any input!

Chuck you are right about that.
However,as you can see in the thread, posters are asking about specific bankroll and average bet amounts.
As you know,a $5K bankroll and $100 average bet will be scoffed at by Wynn but be looked at as a High Roller by Luxor or Excaliber.
Anticipating those questions,I thought property specifics would help.

True, it's a treacherous walk for a host, lol. I give credit to anyone willing to run the gauntlet.

Like paperposter said, unless you are a known high roller, the answer is no, for obvious reasons.

Read through the below thread, it's a service that does what you're asking by verifying your play history at other properties and comps you on the front end accordingly:

I've never used them, but based on everything I've read on this site about them, I definitely wouldn't hesitate to if the need ever arose.

This thread started out with a casino host offering to answer questions. Now it appears to be about the same as the rest of the Vegas Message Board with everyone else jumping in with opinions and answers. All good of course, but we have lost the original direction.

Just my two cents which I am sure some will be offended. I would love to hear more from "Casino Host"

    ORIGINAL POST:
Hello everyone, I am brand new to this board and thought I would introduce myself by starting a thread to answer any questions you might have about what a casino host does, can assist with, and any further questions you might have. I am an excutive casino host in my early thirties at a mid-size Strip property with 10 years of hosting experience. Glad to try and help answer any questions you might have about my career.

Valid point! OTOH, chiming in is OK, I imagine, if the responder knows what he/she is talking about and can answer a posed question. Better to have your question answered quickly than when the busy OP gets a round tuit.

    Hi VegasCasinoHost!

Thanks for sharing your expertise and experiences with us. My questions:

How are casino hosts generally compensated? Base salary plus percentage? hourly? No need for hard numbers, just curious.

How long are your shifts at work? Or is that up to you?

Can you arrange accomodations for your family or do you need to pass that over to another host?

Do you guys get free meals during your shift from the hotel casino's kitchen?

    Hi VCH!

Situation: I'm visiting Vegas from overseas with basically nil play in the last year (little bit during a business trip last year). Are hosts still interested in our play knowing we're from overseas?

Also, I'm quite interested to know how a host would actually introduce themselves. For example, let's pretend I bet $5k per day (I won't but just for this example) on video poker. Would someone notice this in the system and contact me via the hotel room? I can imagine big play being noticed at tables but was always curious about slots.

    Thanks a lot

I know this is off topic for the VCH but it is somewhat related in that ratings effect theo and comps.
I never used to ask but after quite a few sessions that the rating was dramatically off I am doing it regularly now.
If I have enough to buy my marker back at the table I will ask the pit boss when they hand it to me in a somewhat apologetic manner.
It happened to me a week ago at Caesars where they handed me my marker back and I said something like
"Can I ask you a quick question? My host suggested I confirm my ratings at the table.
Would you mind checking for me?"

He said sure and started hitting the screen.
Then he tells me and the number is way below my starting bet.
I told him that was crazy and he said "I just came on,what do you want?"
After a back and forth exchange he said he would fix it but there is pretty much no way for me to know if he waited for me to walk away and did nothing.
What makes it worse is that I was pretty much the only one at the table tipping the dealers regularly.

I kind of know the ones to avoid at Aria but had no idea who was gonna be ok at CP and who was not.

I feel I have an extremely good host, she always tells me to make sure to charge everything to my room, I like to go see a couple good shows when I go and since I am already charging my meals to the room it adds up pretty quick, I also understand the food and shows are elevated cost and assume that may be why the cost is more to cover the amount of comps giving out. IMO.... My questions is, what is acceptable or to much to charge to your room? My GF always wants a massage but dont want to ask or push to much. By the way, I am a pretty strong table player. Second question, since I do play pretty strong if I was to go and not play as strong or as much one trip would that hurt me any? Thank you for your anwers

Being a casino host in the land of enhanced experience charges has to be even more of a kiss a-- job. I always took my offers as they were stated, but like the worst air line miles credit card I have been denied my offers. Last year nada this year nada. I do not take use all of my comps. Do you have a wording to my host that I could use to get my friends and family allowance free stay to be greenlighted.

/threadjack/- I get some really enticing offers from Vegas, but there is no way I'm just gonna up and fly there for a deal. Even A/C, a four hour drive, is not worth doing to pick up the offers. I am sure if one was within an hour or so of either Vegas or A/C one could do quite well with the many offers that come one's way. And this from a small-fry gambler!
