I would think $50 would be more in order.

Five night stay in a deluxe room and sandwiched a $100. and after a bit of discussion with a manager we were upgraded to a corner suite...well worth the $20 average per night. Everybody happy.

You shouldn't have to slip them anything - one of the MLife Tier benefits for Gold and above is room upgrades (subject to availability of course). If the Strip view rooms are fully committed over the four nights of your stay then they wouldn't be able to upgrade you even if you slipped them cash.

Golds are NOT given any substantial upgrades at Aria. Early check-in is all you will get. I'm Gold and last 4 visits have been given a room below the 20th floor

Even if you qualify for a free upgrade "subject to availability", you'll find that availability much more likely if the clerk is well fed with a sandwich.

Just booked one comped night at Aria via the Myvegas game. Was thinking of trying the sandwich trick for the very first time, but am discouraged by the previous posts about already comped rooms. However it is going to be over the Thanksgiving week (November 22nd to be exact) and I doubt that the hotel will be full at all. Any thoughts if I should even try? It's only for one night...
    Thanks in advance.

had booked 3 nights plus one myvegas comp night;; all in king deluxe room....
After using the $20 trick, she gave us our preferred 'queen deluxe' instead.. not much of an upgrade, but exactly what we wanted!

Have a Tower Suite booked 7/18-7/21. Going to try the $100 sandwich and a little Texas-charm and see if we can go up the ladder a few more rungs. Will report back...

Last time I stayed at Aria I gave them the $20 handshake, they gave me a $20 OFF dinner buffet coupon.

Did the trick in July 2016. 2 night stay checking in on a Wednesday. I asked for a corner suite. They said they can't do that complimentary, and was offered 50th (highest) floor without a strip view or a 22nd floor with a strip view and close to the elevator. It can be a LONG walk to your room if you're not close to the elevator at Aria so we chose that one.

Overall, didn't get what I wanted, but still got a bit of an upgrade. Granted, I think I would've got that upgrade without giving them any money.

Have done the $20 sandwhich and been very lucky to get upgrades. Usually corner suites.
Going end of September and will be staying there. Will see if it works again.

SUCCESS I just checked in. Arrived at 12 after a 2 night stay at Bellagio. Booked 2 nights Deluxe King with the Royal $200 offer. Middle aged woman at front desk very friendly. I am a younger graduate student here with my girlfriend. I slipped $20 between ID/Card and she made small talk. Gave us an available room, higher floor with a strip view.

$20 got us a view upgrade and early check in ~$70 value?

Success? Checked in at 3:30pm this week. Comp room via MyVegas for the last leg of the trip. Requested high floor, close to the elevator, strip view. Received 30th FL, handicap room by the elevators. Had to sacrifice a bathtub but great room to lay my weary head. In addition, front desk tried to return the tip. I insisted, since I felt it was well earned.

I am staying at Aria in 2 weeks on a MV comp for a Deluxe King room.
We will be checking in after 10 pm and I plan on trying with a $20.

I am going to ask for a corner suite but if offered only a "view upgrade", I will counter with a late checkout or no resort fee.

To those who have stayed in the last 6 months and tried the trick, please report on your success rates! Thanks

huge clean casino, amazing sports book.

Watched the first two Astros/Red Sox round 1 playoff games and the leather seats and drink service was great.....also great NY style pizza place right outside of the sports book.

Limits are $10.00 and up for blackjack and craps...

Stayed at the Vdara last October so of course did the sportsbook and some gambling at the Aria...........

I have stayed at Aria about 5 times. Most recently last January, and will return is less than 2 weeks : )
I was never able to get a suite upgrade, but my $20 at least scored a comped fridge and high floor "city view" room.

Corner suites tend to run $75-95/night more at check in from my experience, $20trick is extremely unlikely to yield one IMO. Also they might be out. Cannot speak to whether your counter offer would be considered.

Do the experts here think I can get a late check out with a $20? I know I could just pay up front, but I'd rather give something to the desk clerk than the resort. Gonna give it a try!

Ladies getaway, somewhere on the strip with a pool :)
