    Silly question,
My host reserved me a cabana, but none of my friends that are coming to Vegas just want to lounge poolside. The question is not if its pretentious, but how pretentious would be if it was just me using the cabana? Should I just tell host to cancel it because it would make me look like such a Dbag?

Personally, I look at it this way... those people most likely aren't ever going to see me again, so I don't really care what they think of me :)
I enjoy some down time at the pool and it's nice to have a place to get away from the casino and relax.

But, what you could do is, tell you friends to swing by when they want and enjoy a drink by the pool and let them come and go as they please. Even better, you could make some new friends at the pool. Just be careful with the moochers.

I would do it solo in a second. I don't even think it's that pretentious to do it but, even if it was, look where you are - the entire town is pretentious! haha

As Shock said above, if your buddies come by they might change their minds. Big difference between being crammed into beach chairs next to screaming kids and having your own cabana. Do it!

The first two replies nailed it. Go have fun meet some people at the pool and invite them to your cabana. Again, watch out for the mooches, but have a great time. We've never gotten a cabana for the two of us, but if a host was going to pick it up we'd be all over it for just us.

I assume your host is picking up the cabana for you? If you really don't feel like doing it alone, see if your host can use those comp dollars on something else.

Thx. Personally, I'd never pay for a cabana even if i had 10 other people with me. Comped, so i guess i will just have to indulge myself.

I think if you tell them you will be there and will buy them a drink, they will swing by. Depending on the weather, they do not even have to change clothes. Just come and hang out.

Most have a fridge, tv, chairs in the share, chairs in the sun, etc.

Or if there are people from this site that will be there at the same time and wanna hang out in a cabana......or just enjoy hanging by yourself. Either way I wouldn't cancel.

If I had a host picking up the cabana charges, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Plans change so quickly when you're in Vegas that your friends may end up deciding that an afternoon at the pool, with the ability to chill out in or out of the sun is just what they need. Either way, I hope you enjoy it.

Finally making back to Vegas (fingers crossed)!!

The problem with really great comps is that they usually require really great out-of-pocket tips.

I've had a cabana on my own. It was just nice to have the extra space, privacy, tv, food/drink, etc. I just tipped a little more generously to account for the fact that there weren't 12 people all getting bottle service or whatever, and staff was fine with it.

I say enjoy solo as folks have said, especially if based on your play you won't feel like you will have to sweat getting a comped cabana and the tips are a non-issue. I would like a comped cabana for a day for my upcoming trip, assuming my guests would enjoy using it, even if for an hour or two. I would enjoy it solo in a major way and though I wouldn't "sweat it", my host right now is planning to pick up a lot of my expenses based on my previous play so I'm not sure if I would ask him for a cabana (with the goal of it being comped on the back end) if I thought only I would use it. In that case I'd just chill by the Tower Suites or Encore pool on my own in a regular lounge chair.

But, for my July trip when it'll be just me at Encore and my other expenses will be pretty low, I'd ask him for a cabana, even if I am just in it, in a heartbeat as I'm likely to be significantly undercomped during that trip if my play stays about the same as my April trip.

We have had a cabana many times, and rarely, and I mean almost never do I tip the host.

Okay. All of this cabana talk has now got me thinking about reserving one at the Wynn Tower Suites, even if I have to pay for it. I understand it is supply and demand at Wynncore but that during that week on a Monday in April I might be able to get it for $300.

I don't want to get too emotional about it but my mom will be 85 this summer and every year she can travel with me anywhere is a tremendous gift. I don't stress about that fact too much but she does love pools/swimming -- and "her" quarter Encore WOF machine :haha: -- and I think would enjoy the cabana with the tv, misters, etc. out of the shade when she wants to rest. I'd use it off and on during the day while playing. No major plans for that particular day other than playing and dinner at Lakeside that evening. I was planning for breakfast that morning at the Terrace Point Cafe, which is close by, so that would work well even though we will be staying in the Encore Tower Suites.

Flowers do it. That is something my Mom would have loved. We lost her a year ago and there is so many more things I wish I would have done for her. This is a chance to give her one more special thing. No regrets.

Thanks Packeral. Sent my host a note about 10 minutes ago requesting one and asking for the cost as I am prepared to pay for it if it can't be comped at the back end based on my play. I wanted to make clear to him no expectation on my part that he will take care of it and if he does at the end, that'll be just another win. I am so excited. I have had my entire trip planned for weeks but just adding this in is exciting. Thanks OP for the post as I think it's a really nice addition to the trip and I think my mom (and I with her) will really enjoy it.

Whatever time you have to spend with your mom, create and cherish as many memories you can. I lost my mom to cancer over 30 years ago. I'm only 47, so I don't have the great memories for weddings and her with grandkids. I enjoy hearing people making the most out of life with their parents as they are the ones that helped you become who you are. Cheers on having a wonderful trip with your mom.
