I was in Vegas July 5-8. I started to feel ill later that week and took a test. After 9 days of waiting I did get a positive COVID test. But I was also around a co-worker who tested positive. So I believe I caught it from her. But I possibly caught it in Vegas. We’ll never know for sure.

Also curious to this if people feel comfortable enough responding (for those of you who do, we commend you for being honest).

My wife just tested positive today. We were there last Thursday-Sunday. I'm currently at home quarantining with her for 2 weeks. I need a hobby.

I cancelled my planned trip to Vegas, so cannot speak for myself. My cousin and her husband both tested positive after visiting Vegas a little over a week ago However, she works in an industry where she still gets exposed to people regularly, so hard to tell where she got it from. I know Sonya posted in her dedicated post that a number of people have tested positive after visiting Vegas. I dont think there were many details other than the number.

I tested negative last week and will be tested again. For her it’s just like a head cold and she’s improving. With everyone from the LA area going during the weekends it’s not overly surprising honestly.

Between our society mobility and delayed testing results, I don't have much faith in the effectiveness of contact tracing in this county. It will make for great theater showing how the health board is fighting the virus, but actually will only make a very little dent in the spread of the virus.

I was amazed how long results took. Unless someone gets results within days contract tracing is useless. My co-worker took 11 days. Mine took 9. My wife who also became sick after me took 12! Luckily my wife and I had it pretty mild.

Through work mine came back 36 hours later and my wife through her medical group was about 2 days. Pretty quick all things considered.

Testing result time currently has fairly broad range, considering its importance.

Yeah so hard to tell if it really came from Vegas or not. If you had been basically working from home with everything being delivered then odds are a bit higher. But when working with others & associated positives, how does one even know?

Test results here are pretty quick-I believe just a day or two. My daughters in Illinois I believe was a few hours (but she works at the hospital). Other issue is how long before you get the symptoms to even be checked - varies significantly- if you even get any symptoms. We went for lunch today & I listened to a local fellow telling his friends he had it already. He’d been getting so tired around 2 in the afternoon for days but hadn’t thought anything of it. Kept on going about business around the area as usual. Finally developed a few more symptoms. As he indicated - look how long I kept going around in public before I ever even thought to go get tested. (He still had to quarantine 14 days after diagnosis-although likely was well along in the timeline). My daughter had to quarantine 10.

Glad you are all doing ok !!!!

I will try and answer your questions. I thought about posting my experience on here before, but didn't want to cause unnecessary panic.

My Co-Worker I do see numerous times throughout the workday. We do take precautions at work such as masks, gloves, taking employee temperatures. There are times where social distancing isn't possible. As far as when I was in Vegas, yes I was very careful. Always a mask and used hand sanitizer every time I saw a dispenser.

Here is a brief timeline of my trip to Vegas and testing positive.

Saturday July 4th: I was in contact with the Co-Worker who later tested positive. The co-worker did not have a temperature, but I later found out she said she felt very fatigued that day.
Sunday: Left for Vegas(Drove), checked in that evening. Had my temp taken prior to checking in. Felt normal.
    Monday: Felt normal.
Tuesday: I felt a little off and had a slight cough. I didn't think anything of it because those feelings aren't abnormal when I'm in Vegas. With all the casino smoke and having a few drinks(I don't drink much at home). I learned later this evening my Co-Worker had a fever for a couple of days and was getting tested for Covid.
Wednesday: When I woke up I knew something was wrong, My cough was worse and I felt feverish. I checked out and went home.

Wednesday was the worst I felt. But overall it wasn't that bad. When I got home from Vegas I took my temp and it was 99.4, a small fever but a fever. I felt better on Thursday, but still off. My main symptom was fatigue. I had no fever and no cough after Wednesday. Just a lot of fatigue. I would sleep great at night but still feel drowsy all day. I stayed this way for about a week. During this time my wife became ill as well. We both got tested, and both tested positive. My wife had similar symptoms, but also lost her taste and smell.

I most likely caught Covid from my Co-Worker on that Saturday before leaving for Vegas. But I could of also caught it at a gas station on the way to Vegas, or maybe that first day in Vegas. As I said before I'll never know for sure. Was I contagious while I was in Vegas? Probably. But I had no idea until the day I checked out that there was a chance I had Covid.

I've read studies where if you can't get a positive test result within 3 days, contact tracing alone isn't effective to slow the spread even with 100% compliance.

It sounds like your coworker gave it to you with that timeline, imo. But of course I dunno for sure. And hopefully you tried to mask up a lot in Vegas because if your coworker did give it to you, you probably were contagious while in Vegas. Sounds like from an above post, you did nearly the best you could.

That's why this virus is a bitch folks. Asymptomatic spread is definitely possible.

Thanks for basically "contact tracing" for us. Hope everyone involved feels better soon!

Trying to figure out EXACTLY where you got it is close to impossible.

Maybe an exhale in an elevator - at work or Vegas.
That person you passed in the hallway - at work or Vegas
The guy at the toll booth or parking garage
    The clerk at the store
Family member carried it but did not show any symptoms.
You only need one germ to make it's way into your system

Anyone that claims they know where they got it is smoking stuff I would like to try.
