On my recent return to Vegas after a 14 year hiatus, I *really* got into dressing for the evening dinner and gambling.

Check out the cool (to me anyway ) sportcoat and kicks I procured for the trip.....

But literally, all three nights, on at least two occasions, I had people assuming I worked for the casino and asking me questions! :haha:

So am I in a small minority who likes to channel my inner Clooney/Sinatra? To be truthful, I didn’t see many other folks dressed up, but I don’t care.

I’d rock a tux if there were any credible reason to do so. My daily routine was sleep off the night before, stumble out in a cap/shorts/flops, unshaven/showered, then play the afternoon away, nap from about 4-6, then get cleaned and gussied up to roll out after 8.

Tell me I’ve got some fellow clotheshorses!

I still enjoy getting dressed. If it were up to me, all men in the office would wear a shirt and tie... no reason not to look professional in an office. I don't have a sport coat that fits after my weight loss, but I loved wearing one to dinner when I was heavier. I haven't purchased any coats that fit because, frankly, they look out of place unless at a wedding, and even then the most recent one I attended had most men in dress shirts without ties.

Years ago I had a supervisor (a she-person) that had to have been 6-foot tall and well over 300#. She said that with her size people will notice her any time she walks into a room. "Why not make a dynamic impression?" she would say. She was always impeccably dressed, so I remember that.

Even now (look at my avatar photo, or any photo in my trip reports) it is very rare when I am wearing anything more casual than a polo shirt.

Nope. I dress up all week long for work so when I go out I like to be sexy casual.

If I'm going to a show or a fancy restaurant, I'll wear smart jeans and a dress shirt with chelsea boots or shoes.

Did four years having to wear uniform, so my transition from that to poker was most welcome. Had to dress up when I was doing that, as casinos in the UK were still quite strict on dress, and you normally needed to be reasonably well dressed to get in to play tournamments.

However, working from home self-employed since I stopped playing poker means I can just wear gym clothes around the house, lol.

I dressed up a couple years ago in a blazer, nice shirt and shoes Gordon Ramsay Steak for my birthday. However, I won't dress up because most of the
time I have to look at people in a nice restaurants in T-Shirts shorts and and sandals. The younger crowd just doesn't care about dressing up. It just makes me feel out of place, while it should be them that are out of place.
I like your clothes, but I hate your shoe laces. It ruins it for me.

I used to dress up for work. I didn't mind it. But i wouldn't mind dressing up as long the shoes are comfortable

I don't understand the point of dressing up to go sit at a desk in a cubicle for 8 hours, but maybe that's just me.

I actually stopped wearing dress shirts, coats, and ties when my company went to business casual. Now that I'm retired, the only time I will ever wear a suit and tie is if I have to attend a wedding or funeral which isn't very often. LOL

When I'm on vacation, especially in Vegas, I like to be comfortable so I'm in jeans, polo shirts, and comfy athletic shoes most of the time. I also avoid places that have dress codes which are usually all of the nightclub that I would never go to anyways. LOL

Although if anyone likes to dress to the hilt while they're in Vegas, go for it and have a good time!

I am digging that sportscoat! Nice!

I used to dress up in the evenings for many years. It was fun with all the glitz and electricity in the air.

Now? No. And I've been known to wear the same outfit two days straight. Jeans, tshirt, sneakers, light jacket.

I do, but it is occasion dependent. I dress up more for evening or the fancier casinos, but if it’s a day of keno at the Flamingo, I might be more casual or just wear something weird. I enjoy dressing up and/or being weird! [emoji846][emoji854]

Every day in Vegas for me, and I do exactly the same as you. Roll out of the room early morning in cargo shorts and tshirts that are either funny or have skulls n stuff on them, some point between lunch and dinner I will shower and deck out in designer suits and even a hat on occasion. I often buy a lot of new clothes for a Vegas trip too.

Also, nice paisley coat. I almost bought something like that 2 days ago but already bought 2 very expensive suits for my upcoming trip so figured I better stop the money hemorrhaging at some point.

Back in the 80s, a good many guys (40-50%?) wore blazers/sport-coats in the casino... ties? Not so much. But seeing jeans, with nice shoes or boots, a dress shirt & jacket? Very common sight.
For women, it was far-more common to see nicer dresses, or a very-nice blouse with jeans... t-shirts, flip-flops & shorts were nearly unheard of...even in the summer.

As for me, I liked it like that... not that we were "classy" or any such thing, but it really did add a "positive" to the gambling experience. Pit-critters & dealers both seemed to treat players with more respect & I can't help but think that attire played a role in that.

These days? Well, the last time I wore a jacket in Vegas was about 10 years ago... and during that trip, I must have been asked "Do you work here?" (or equivalent) at least 6 or 7 times. I figured it was time to hang-up the jacket. (pun intended).

Looking good. The old folks used to say (now I am one of them) Sharper than a rat's turd on both ends (LOL).

I don't dress up anymore for anything but I like to see other people sporting their fashions.

Considering the time of year, silly me thought this thread was about wearing costumes on Halloween. And if I dressed up, that would be a costume! I've been going to casinos for over 34 years and have learned that how one's dressed has zero bearing on winning or losing. I meet too many hookers just dressed casually. :)

I talked about this a little in my June TR, but I got zero hooker propositions while wearing a suit and a ton while dressed casually. I think the confusion about maybe you work there and maybe you are the kind of person who may cause them trouble when dressed up vs looking like their perfect target running around in shorts and a tshirt makes a huge difference. In 7 trips I've only been propositioned maybe once while in a suit.

True enough, but it certainly has bearing on how casino/hotel staff treat you... at least, it used to!

I do like to dress up in the evening. I'm not talking formal or stuffy, but I will put on something with a little bling or a nice dress and a pair of strappy heels. I usually refresh the hair and make up too. My day to day life is pretty casual so I don't get much of a chance to get dressed up at home.
