So Anthony Bourdain featured Vegas this week on his series for CNN and being a big Tony fan and (of course, Vegas fan), I was really psyched about it.
He has done a previous show on Vegas a few years ago that was pretty entertaining even if he admits that is really doesn't get Vegas.

This episode, however was, to me, really negative and pretty scathing about people who visit.
What got to me was when my coworker who saw the episode said to me that he doesn't understand why I would ever go to Vegas based on what he saw in that episode. I was pretty speechless...

    Any thoughts?

Recorded it and watched last night. Extremely boring. I'm not a big fan of his anyway but this show wasn't worth watching. He comes off way too smug and pretentious.

CNN, I'm sure they'll run it again.

I was really excited to see this. Spent most of the show fast-forwarding to get to the parts I wanted to see most. The Lotus of Siam feature was really disappointing -- hoped for much more. There was a lot of negativity and ripping on people and Vegas. Didn't see the point. Bourdain is strange. He likes to act like he's this guy who loves dives and the ordinary stuff, but then he spends a huge chunk of the show in his villa at Caesar's having Guy Savoy cook him a private dinner ... It's like he's not comfortable with his success or the indulgence, when he's ALL about indulgence.

Anthony Bourdain has lost his passion but he can't make himself jump off the merry-go-round. Before he became rich and famous, Bourdain was an entertaining if overbearing horse's ass. Now he has become less entertaining and more overbearing. His speciality of making a pretense out of being unpretentious has worn through to the cords.

I used to watch him but he turned sort of smug and condescending to normal people or so it seems.

Andrew Zimmern seems like he is so much cooler. I will watch his show every day.

That show was a HUGE disappointment. Not sure what his agenda was.

If he'd spent more time in restaurants and less time pontificating it would have been a better show. He still had time to zing Bobby Flay, I noticed.

I can't watch Bourdain without wanting to bury my fist in his smug mug.

That's never been Bourdain's style though in any of his shows. I haven't seen this new show but have probably seen most No Reservartions. He has one of the greatest jobs in the world in my opinion. I think all of his various Asia based episodes are best, you can tell he really loves it out there.

It's no surprise he bagged on Vegas. He's done that before years ago during a No Reservations there. Maybe it comes across as snobby, but his view of Vegas dining is not unusual among hardcore foodies and chefs in general.

^^ You should actually watch the show. He wasn't bagging on Vegas restaurants at all. He loved the places he went to. But he was still a big Dbag.

I sat down to watch yet another Vegas show that I was sure had all kinds of things that I already knew... it was anything but that... I watched the whole show... I wasn't riveted, but it kept my interest.

I enjoyed it. It was a bit boring but I knew he would be showing things that the normal Vegas-goer might not know about. Some of the food looked nasty tho except for Lotus of Siam...makes me want to go there even more. Wish that segment was longer.

You should go to Netflix and watch his No Reservations episode where he was in Vegas...it was a few years ago and much more entertaining.

I liked seeing him sitting at a VP machine at a gas station eating a hot dog in a flannel shirt (or maybe just plaid)....certainly not Bourdain-like at all! :)

I enjoyed the show as much as I enjoy most of his shows.

I didn't think he was any more smug than he normally is about mass produced things and people without taste.

If he struck a nerve of yours it probably means you're one of those types of people or you need to look around Vegas a little more the next time you're there.

I really can't stay watching him anymore, he is such an asshat when doing a story in the USA and such an ass kisser when out of the country, especially in Japan. Will the real Bourdain stand up?

Yeah there's no doubt he loves Asia and he has since the earliest days of No Reservations. He's also very popular there, maybe more so than he is here. No Reservations was one of the most popular US shows on TV when I lived there. I think his attitude is pretty similar though in the US depending on the place/neighborhood he's in. He still loves ethnic enclaves in the US and things off the beaten path, but gets smug about the large amounts of bland unimaginative food and chain joints in most areas. He's not alone in that.

I haven't see the episode, but I totally understand why some people hate vegas.
