Got a letter with a Chase symbol on it telling me that a new account was opened in my name. To verify the account and my new acct. info they told me to call 1-800-686-5657 immed.
I called the Chase Visa number on the back of my cc and they said it was a scam.(the real fraud dept.)

    Good catch by you.

Recently did a refi on our home. Got a notice in the mail today that even hd my mortgage number, amount, etc on it. "they" said they had been trying get hold of me. Call this 800 number. Yea, fat chance. Somebody wants to see me something. Probably got the date from the country office when mortgage was filed.

After all, it would be hard for the mortgage company not to contact me via email or phone. Ha Ha

Sometimes I get emails in my SPAM folder that purport to be from valid businesses but the return email address is always the giveaway.

Now Now - that guy is trying to contact me and I will get the 50 Million - not you. He promised me!
All I have to do is send him upfront money so he can send me my check. :goofy: I'm leaving now for the
post office. I'm gonna be rich! Rich I tell ya! I'm running out the door now. :biker: He promised me riches beyond
    my wildest dreams.

While you seem to understand, many do not, the IRS will never cold call you. They will always send a letter with instructions for you. Any call from the IRS out of the blue is a scam. Just a little reminder.

Yup, I'm tempted to talk to them(just to waste their time), but I'm extremely busy, as evidenced by all the time I spend here.

I get many phone calls from Indian accented people talking about they can help me consolidate my student loans blah blah blah. I don't have any student loans so I called them on their bluff and stayed on the line to speak to live operator. He starts asking me questions he should already have the answers to if in fact, I had student loans. Questions like how much do you owe on your loans. I answered by telling him he should have the answer to that since he called me. Very quickly hung up on me.

I also get the IRS call telling me that it's my last time to pay or give me social security number to come up with a payment plan. If I do not comply they would have to send the Sheriff's to my house to arrest me. I told them to send the Sheriff. Again, quickly hung up. Also from an Indian sounding person.

Get this, though I get calls from the "LAPD" and "US Army,Marines,ETC ETC" soliciting donations! LOL!

Got a voicemail on my work phone last week:

"Yes, we are calling about those documents that are ready to be delivered to you, we are holding them so please call us back at 866-blah-blah-blah.

How could anyone take a voicemail (or call) like that seriously? No identifiable name, company name, didn't address me by name. Some of these scams are too stupid themselves.

I always used to wonder who would fall for something like that.

Well, my sister's father-in-law did. Lost his house because of it. Of course, he is the one who is going to make the next best house gadget-thingamajig.

I don't usually get involved with hiring and firing, but a while ago I did collect some resumes via email for a client who wanted to be somewhat discreet about entering a new market.

Since then I've been getting so-called resume submissions via email, all which say nothing of substance in the main body of the email (which is really like the cover letter) and all have a .pdf or a doc which triggers the Nasty File Alert warning.

There are lots of online videos and audio of people who engage these guys and keep them on the line as long as they can. Some of it is pretty funny.

Not so much a scam, but lately I have received a few calls from debt collectors asking for people I have never heard of.

One exception was a call asking for an in-law that I have very little contact with and don't have a phone number for, and I told them that; no more calls for that person. Makes me wonder if the debt collector was looking up family members trying to find the person,

Phone numbers get recycled quickly now, it's not unusual to get calls for previous number holders when you get a new one. In my case I've had the same number for at least 15 years and I still get those debt collection calls.

Oh, how I'd love to have the home phone ring with this call...I've become bored with the guys from "microsoft windows calling about error messages from my computer". I am in dire need of a new sparring partner. :licklips:

I keep getting these penis enlargement pill e-mails. "How did they know?" is my question.

The last time I was going to mess with a scam call I got this response. I first asked the caller how he got my number since I'm on a do not call list. His response, says fuck you twice and hangs up. Priceless.
