We were there nearly the same time as @Onmyown32 so I'm being a copycat with a similar story - maybe there was something in the water or more likely just that time of year. It outta be against the law to be sick in Vegas.

We were in Vegas Nov 29-Dec 6 stayed at Cosmo and Mirage. DH had a sinus infection and sore throat the entire time although Doc had given him antibiotics and said it wasn't strep and wasn't virus and not contagious, but he felt miserable and spent quite a bit of time in the room. As it turns out, I spent more time in the room than planned as well. On about the 5th day, my 'casino smoke allergy', as I call it, kicked in and I started with the cough, cough, cough for the next few days (plane ride home was miserable - I'm grateful so many folks sitting nearby wore headphones so they didn't have to put up with my annoying cough). To add insult to injury, slots were a losing proposition the entire trip , and although we enjoyed time dining with our friends traveling with us, and always have a fun time in Vegas, this did not go down in the books as a favorite trip..:(

An observation on my 'casino cough' - 3 nights at Cosmo - no problems. Moved to Mirage, a place I love, but immediately picked up on the heavy smoke factor and by the next day, constricted throat and cough, the rest of the trip..darn it....

But! The Christmas/Holiday decorations at Bellagio were the best we have seen in years - just breathtakingly beautiful. As was every place we went - so beautifully decorated and cheerful looking that it made up for a lot of the health annoyances. And I talked DH into having 'afternoon high tea' with me at Bellagio/Petrossian Bar (theraputic for sinus infection, right?) - and he thoroughly enjoyed it - the tea service was excellent from the prime tea choices to the scones (2 each) to the awesome finger sandwich offerings (4 each) to the abundant dessert (3 each).

Now planning our 2017 trip to Vegas - lol

Oh dang it Geogran, when I didnt see a "I had a blast" update, I was worried. I'm so sorry you had a bummer trip. I absolutely agree.....being sick in Vegas should be illegal, or worse!

As always, you tried to make the best of it, with high-end teas and scones at Bellagio, but I am really bummed for you overall.

BUT I have full faith you're make 2017 your crowning Vegas glory....and once you feel better, I know you'll already be planning your first "Geogran owns Vegas" 2017 trip!!!!

Thanks for sharing your experiences, Geogran!

I understand the frustrations of being sick while in Vegas.
A few trips ago I had a sinus infection and tooth issues. Thank goodness for that cough syrup with codeine!

Also, on our last trip my bride took a fall on the sidewalk along the Strip, which slowed us down for the rest of the trip.

Apparently Murphy's Law is valid in Vegas, too!

Here's to health and wealth for your 2017 Vegas trip(s)!

I'm still not 100% better this is the worst cold Ever.

I'm already in the planning stages for another trip with the hubby.... was thinking end of February but then that would mean I will be in Vegas 3 months in a row!!! March is never really good for us and April seems so far away!!!

4 weeks till mom and me in Vegas!! So excited!!!

I too am always plotting for another trip, but Vegas 3 months in a row would be a record for sure; we did manage 4 trips in 2016.
Lucky you to have a trip planned with your mom - shake that cold so y'all can do it up right!
(Yankee here in Texas - kind of homesick for that snow this time of year, but glad don't have to drive in it).

Feeling crappy in Vegas does hinder the good times.
I get the smoke-allergy thing too. It bothers my eyes so much they water and get so red.
I try to drink enough cocktails to counteract the vision in the mirror.
It's a good thing my natural beauty shines through the horror. :evillaugh:

Holidays are fun in the town we all love. Sorry you and your hub didn't feel well.
I'm sure you will be planning another trip sooner than later.
You'll get 'em next time.

Meanwhile, we'll be there in a little more than a week.
Happy Holidays Geogran and best wishes on your next trip! :santa:

I'm with you about the casino cough. It's definitely from the smoke. It's very hard on my lungs. I get to a point where I just cough and cough and have to cover my nose if I'm near a smoker. They will give me the evil eye like I"m faking it, haha. I agree that Mirage is the worst when it comes to smoke, stayed there once and have not been back due to this issue.

Next trip will be better for you, all you have is to move up. I hope your husband is all better!

Why didn't I think of that? :woot:

Lucky you @ardee ! If we didn't have young grandsons, we'd be there too!
Hope you keep us posted with your shenanigans, and Happy Holidays to you and hope it is a HUGE winning trip in every way :woohoo:

thanks @KimiCoconuts - husband still on the mend but worst is over and planning 2017 Vegas trip :D.

I like Vegas too much to give it up, some trips just trigger the allergy more than others and I do get the evil eye sometimes cause the cough can sound fake. Ironically, I love staying at Mirage because we have a great host there and my husband enjoys the Tower Suite as he spends quite a bit of time in the room; more importantly, I almost always win at Mirage and have won more hand pays there by a large margin over all the other places combined. So we usually do a few nights at Mirage and the others at Cosmo or Wynn or Venetian, etc. to balance out the smoke factor. Where there is a will, there is a way!

Being ill during a trip to Las Vegas, or anywhere else for that matter, is unfortunate. You have the correct attitude in looking past your most recent trip and looking forward to the next one. I hope the next trip is superior to the last.

The first thing I do when getting into my room is to turn the Air Conditioning off. It always gives me a sore throat and I feel sure most of the germs come through that system.

You know....the room we had at Planet Hollywood the air vent was basically blowing right on me. The first night hubby had it on high, the rest of the week sick sick sick!!! We normally always keep the ac on high fan when we are in Vegas and about half the time I wind up with a casino cough (always assumed it was from all the 2nd hand smoke). Next trip I'm going to try this Turing it off

You may be onto something there. But my better half likes the room frigid...like when I finally get to the room in the wee hours, I have to scrape the frost off the mirrors, lol.

Sorry to hear the bad luck and the sickness. :( Not shocked you got more issues at Mirage though. I seem to smell a lot of smoke there.

Nothing worse than being sick on vacation... My entire household was sick last week... I started to feel it on Monday, I took a sick day yesterday and today, rest and pumping vitamins into my system... 4 more days until my trip - I'm glad this hit me now as I already feel like I'm on the downside of this cold....
