    My Trip Report

Hey all, been a while since i've posted. My usual chronological and sort of long form reporting will be slightly altered to fewer paragraphs and less mundane details. Long story short- 8 of us for bachelor party, same guys as last trip plus 3 more. They all arrived on 7/7 for the weekend at TI, where i would join them (suite + adjoining rooms), i arrived 7/5 a couple days early as i booked the hard rock for a couple of nights to myself on my own schedule. It worked out great. Although my Fiance' was unhappy about me taking the trip, and i understood why, i needed it.

Arrived at Mccarran around 1040 am from NJ and a connecting flight in St. louis, got an uber to HR for $18 around 11:15 am. Quick ride, i always tip a couple bucks for uber. Checked in, they had a casino tower room with a partial mid strip and pool view available right away at no additional charge (i guess it being Wednesday helps), i tipped the Front desk gal a 10. Great service.

Got settled in the room. Had minor headache/dehydration/nausea after getting in the room. Early flight and not a lot of sleep. Too much anticipation. Went to Culinary dropout, had grilled cheese w side salad, deviled egg with crispy port bits, and cheesy pork rinds (these were rather meh, but not bad). Had a beer, some sort of wheat local thing. good but beer wasn't helping me at the moment. Pounded a ton of water. $40 after tax and tip.

Thought about going to the pool, but took a series of 30-40 minute naps instead. Around 6 i went shopping down the road for some proper pool attire. Walked only a couple blocks but holy shit was it hot outside. Got back, pounded water at the center bar, Gave a couple bucks for refilling.

Showered and thought about where eat for dinner. Decided i wasn't traveling and went to NOBU. Great meal all around. Got yellowtail jalepeno, the famous miso cod, a few orders of smoked salmon sashimi, scallop, spicy seafood soup, and young harmony (?) 12 year japanese whiskey, which was very good.
$162 Yikes! Only thing i wouldn't do again would be the yellowtail, it was good but not a lot of flavor or kick to justify more than one piece. Wanted to get some sort of banana dessert that sounded amazing but i was way too full. Maybe next time.

Watched some craps and blackjack. didn't play. Ended up blowing $80 on a game of thrones slot. Didn't play a slot machine the rest of the trip. Took a walk to the CVS across the street (still blazing hot outside) to pick up a 24 pack of water and a pedialyte bottle, which both turned out to be lifesavers throughout the trip. Went to sleep around 1130. Long day but a good one.

    Good start, Gil!

I like the idea of a couple of quiet[er] solo days before the hardcore partying! :D

The was pretty much the point, haha. I save my hardcore partying for but maybe twice a year. The weekend ended up being no exception. I like getting in the groove instead of hopping off the plane with a bottle in hand.

    Day 2

got up around 630 am. Still on East coast time, and had a decent 6-7 hours of sleep. Started off by downing a couple water bottles. Went to Mr. Lucky's for breakfast. Got the breakfast quesadilla. pretty solid. Great service continuing all around. Played a little roulette. Dealers were great to talk to, despite there being some unpleasant guests who were mad they were losing. These places weren't built on winners, folks. Not gonna bother with details. you had to be there for this one. It was pretty funny. Ended up +15 after a little while. Was going to play more but they changed croupiers. Wasn't going to mess with a good thing. It basically paid for breakfast.

Walked to the liquor store across the street, got a 750ml of bacardi coconut rum, and a bottle of diet dr pepper. Mixed with ice when i got back to the room, had a couple glasses. Just sweet enough without all the added sugar to be the perfect drink for when the sun was out. Got in my pool outfit, went to one of the open ones. Had sand in parts of it, but lots of families around. Not that i'm obnoxious, i just wanted a different scene. Rehab was the only other open one that day, so i made the trek through the garage and security to go there. Stayed for a couple of hours, purposely did not bring any money with me. Caught some sun, and hung out in the pool. Kind of odd being alone, but it wasn't a bad time.

Eventually it was around 330 and i changed back into regular clothing in the room. Got some food at the oyster bar. The all in pan roast- mixed seafood in a creamy marinara broth. It was great. very much enjoyed it. Would go back again. Talked with one of the staff members about football for a while.

Got my walking sneakers on and walked over to bucca di beppo on east flamingo. Why? Fiance' and I are planning on getting married in LV next year and are looking for a place to have a reception for about 30 people. Mixed feelings on the bucca, we'll probably end up doing maggiano's. Any suggestions on that front, i'm all ears.

Stopped in Silver 7s. A smokey, dumpy place, but i felt winning vibes, similar to how i feel about the gold coast (i've never left that place a loser). Didn't bother though and walked out after watching some dice action for a few minutes.
Had a couple more drinks in the room after watching even more craps at the HR. Still wasn't feeling it yet to be a winner so i stood back and watched. Went to the room to shower and clean up. Decided on the new MB steak after a recommendation from a friend. Dressed up, got a table seat and ordered a few things- Ribeye, lobster bisque, wedge salad, some sort of orange moscow mule.

The steak was closer to medium than medium rare, a bit tough for a ribeye and more charred than i expected possibly because of the seasoning. I expected better but it was still a decent steak. However the Lobster bisque was the best lobster bisque i EVER had. Wedge salad was pretty good. Drink was well made but i couldn't finish it. Too full. The bread there was very good too. Overall i'd recommend it, but i'd go with a dry aged strip next time because the ribeye was pretty average.

    Day 2 continued soon.....

Honestly, I'd recommend the Grand Lux. It's got a little something for everyone in your party & won't break the bank. I've been to one for a Vegas dinner reception (15ish people) & it worked out great!

Way to go Gil... I rarely get to read any sort of review on the Hard Rock here on the VMB. I agree about Nobu. As many times as I've stayed at the Hard Rock, I've only eaten there twice... food was great, but damnnnnnnnnnn it's pricey! "Smokey, dumpy place" is a perfect description of the Silver Sevens, IMHO, but people DO seem to have a blast in that joint. Looking forward to day 2...

Thanks. i will look into it. Hadn't thought about grand lux.

I think silver 7s should offer hazard pay to it's staff for the amount of cig smoke in the air there.

    Day 2 Continued.....

As i'm paying the bill (108 ? + tip), out of nowhere a middle aged blond in a revealing black outfit appears at my table. I was a bit taken aback and immediately thought she was working the scene. Pretty aggressive for a thursday night haha. Turns out the group she was with dared her to and she also thought i looked lonely. She was not a hooker as it turned out.

Long story short, they invited me to hang out with them for a couple of hours and i did. Mostly at the center bar where i continued to drink a ton of water. I talked to the blond for a long time and the conversations were interesting. I told the group they should see absinthe. Had i been a lesser man, things could have turned out pretty fun, but i didn't give into my old ways. As a great man once said "conscience do cost". Coming back home with clear one is hard to put a price tag on. Not that i blame anyone for it though. We're all only human. But also as the now bachelor said on our last trip 2 years ago "man, doing the right thing fucking sucks"

Wished them well, watched a little table action, then went to bed pretty damn full. Probably around midnight or so. Packed a couple things back in the suitcase for the short trip to TI for the next 3 nights.

    Day 3 7/7 Lucky enough i suppose

Woke up around 7 something and drank some water. the only hangover i had was from eating so decadently. I then had a couple rum and DDPs with ice. Packed some more stuff away. Ended up not eating breakfast as i was still full from the night before. Finally decided to play some dice after seeing the same crew for almost 3 days and just standing there watching.
Bought in with 100, eventually went all in with my last 25 or 30 and ended up with a decent roll where i ended up +35 for the session. Hit a couple hard ways and come bets, and there i was, making enough of a small profit after a half hour to just walk away. Made a few dealer bets, they were a pretty good crew.

Finished packing and drank a little more. Got an uber for $8 to TI.

    *Thoughts on Hard Rock Hotel.

*The ink splatter (best way to describe) mirror tops of the desk and tables are the perfect surface for doing rails off of if that's your thing. They really put a lot of thought into that one.

*my only gripe is that the vast majority of Blackjack (even some $25 tables) is 6/5. Boooooooooo!!! I did not play any blackjack here.

*Great service all around the whole property. From front desk to security, to dealers and bartenders, wait staff in all the eating establishments. Everyone did a great job.

*Oyster bar might be the best value in the place. Looking back, that may have been my favorite meal.

*For an off strip Property that isn't a mega resort, they really have a great selection of places to eat. Not to mention all of the rock and roll history and memorabilia throughout the place. Also the shopping really fits into the whole theme of what they're doing. I'd recommend it to anyone.

    On to TI-

Checked most of my stuff into the bell desk, because it was 11am and none of the rooms were ready. Someone broke a headboard in one of ours apparently (that's either wrestling on the bed or someone liked it rough). Luckily we had a cabana rented already and the party was underway. I finished the half bottle of Rum i smuggled in, this time with diet pepsi they gave us with the cabana. With recreational weed now being legal in nevada, a couple of the guys went to a nearby dispensary and got a few pens worth of product. By 1pm i was very drunk and a few hits into the good stuff.

I ordered a pretty average breakfast burrito. although it was definitely filling. had a few more drinks, played some beer pong, and the day kind of slipped into the late afternoon for all of us. We were talking with a bachelorette group of ladies from canada. Friendly enough. Said we all may catch up later. I was wasted at this point.

At some point our rooms were ready and we one by one got our stuff upstairs. the details are hazy. I don't know where time went but eventually we were all in the suite and adjoining rooms discussing dinner. Someone suggested prime at bellagio, but not all of us had jackets to wear. We didn't want to risk it. I suggested Delmonico at the venetian, as it's only across the street and heard great things. reservation was for 715. Originally for a party of 8 but one of the guys' flights was delayed late and he couldn't make it on time. We had another man down, sleeping sitting up on the couch, unable to be woken. He went too hard. We all did in a way. But he was out.

We made it to delmonico on time, and WOW it was a fantastic meal. Everyone complimented me on the suggestion. Got a great bone in ribeye, most of the table did. We got the bone in bacon app (would get again, was unlike anything i've had regarding bacon) and mushrooms with a couple other good sides.

The one guy who got the filet said it was the best he ever had. I put the bone-in ribeye in my top 5 steaks i ever had. Others said best or top 2 they've eaten. The bachelor walked back to TI to go to sleep after a few bites of steak. He was dead tired. We got his to go. Another man down. Bill came to somewhere in the 500s. i think we left close to 700. The service was amazing and food was too. Everyone enjoyed it and thanked me for making the call.

It wasn't long after getting back to TI where most of us were sleeping by 930. Bunch of old men their late 20s. Hard partying will do that. The girls from canada thought we ditched them. We were all just sleeping lol.

Around 1am, the late arriving man showed up and obnoxiously announced his presence. The guy who slept on the couch hung out with him getting something from the TI cafe and they gambled a bit. the rest of us may as well have have been in a nursing home at that point. No regrets. It was an awesome day.

YAY!!!! I knew if I hung around here long enough, someone else would say something nice about the Hard Rock! You hear that you crusty, senile, old bus-ridin' downtown lovers? Whoo-Hoo!

    Day 4 7/8 details a bit hazy

Got up around 6 or 7 something. After turning in at 930, and only briefly waking for an obnoxious entrance by the late arriving party animal, it was a pretty good amount of sleep. Talked to (we'll call him A) A who was in the other bed in our room, and he immediately mentioned If we could go to Mon Ami at paris while everyone else was still knocked out. I had not a better idea than that. I introduced it to him a couple years back and he loves it. Even his wife said it became their new favorite breakfast place when they go to Vegas.

We walked through the Mirage so he could collect on and make a few sports bets. Eventually got to Mon Ami, and got a nice outdoor seat by the railing. One of the best people watching spots in America. I got the ham egg and cheese crepe, and it was delicious. He got the half order special, which basically turned out to be a cinnamon crepe, mini waffles and a piece of french toast with blueberry syrup- the best blueberry syrup in all the land. The waitress was excellent and gave us whipped cream to add to the already carb heavy plates on the table. Magnificent breakfast. Best of the trip.
He ended up sharing a lot with me because it was so much food. We split the bill which was around 50. So full i didn't eat a lunch.

Walked back to TI, and started the party again. A couple drinks but slowed my roll drastically in comparison to the day before. Plenty of hits from some of the newly legal plants we had. Bachelor's brother was betting big on blackjack for hours and came away up several Gs. Everyone was pounding screwdrivers. I mostly avoided the sugary shit, and i avoided having any semblance of a hangover.

We finally got our complimentary fruit platter, after 2 years and 4 days of cabana rentals at TI. It wasn't as large as i thought, however they had banana bread included. Nice touch. It was an ongoing joke in our group that we never got the complimentary fruit platter last trip even though we spent 1300 the one day. Redemption, no matter how small, always shines bright.

Canadian girls show up and ask what happened to us last night haha. We decide we'd try to meet up with them at 1OAK at the mirage later. At some point i hit up an ATM after getting dressed and leaving the pool for the day. Played 90 minutes at single deck blackjack $10 table. Was almost even at one point, and then hit a bad shoe where i blew through 200 (i bought in with 100, then did it again, should have walked away). Had a few drinks while playing so not a total loss. Had a good time with the other players and dealers. Group had to get me to make sure i would be able to make dinner at Trevi over at ceasars (i think it was for 7pm).

We all got dressed decently and trekked over through the forum shops and its convoluted 2nd floor. Shared some good fried calamari, the roasted kale they threw in with it was actually really good, but i was pretty hungry too. Good caesar salad. I got eggplant parm, which was good but unspectacular. Rest of the table got similar italian fare and a few bottles of red wine. Bachelor's brother covered all the wine seeing as he was doing very well at the tables. I stayed off the alcohol the rest of the night.

About 2 minutes into our entrees i started telling jokes and for a good 10 minutes half of us could not stop laughing. tears streamed down our faces. We couldn't eat because we were laughing so hard. Eventually it subsided and we finished our food. Might have been the best moment of the trip. Memories like that are priceless. Most of the group went to the monte cristo cigar bar for almost an hour, while i hung around the main pit and watched green and black chips get lost like it was nothing. Ended up not playing anything, just enjoyed the scenery. Drank more water. The smoke got to my eyes so i couldn't stay in the cigar lounge too long.

We all started making our way out of Caesars and Bachelor's brother started talking to a young lady who was a bit friendly for being all alone and trailing a group of 8. He got her number in case one or all of us needed entertainment at some point, but thankfully it never came to that. things like that end up being bad news, at least for a group of upstanding gentleman. Some of us a few years ago, a different story.

    Day 4 continued soon.....

Great trip, thanks for sharing! I have love for the Hard Rock, too. Excellent pool and fun casino (including their poolside gaming pavilion which is the best in Vegas IMO). My top off-Strip pick.

The Casino Tower located in the center of the complex has the best views of the strip and some nice French-doors that open to about a 12" balcony to take it all in. The corner rooms at the western-end of two newer towers (HRH and Paradise) have great views as well.

    Glad you're all enjoying

    Day 4 continued....

After dinner we re grouped in our rooms, and took the short walk to the mirage. Some confusion on whether or not to get bottle service with the girls from up north. 1500? nah, not amongst 8 guys. Bachelor didn't even want to do the club, he's a simple beer and dive bar guy. $40 cover and very tight space. I could barely move onto the dance floor. The girls were nice enough to buy us drinks. Got a bud light. I guess it was better than buying an $11 water. Stayed for about 30 minutes, but it was all I and a couple others could take. Sometimes i have to remind myself that i don't like nightclubs. It's just not my scene. Every few years i go to one and remember why i stopped in the first place.

Myself, the bachelor, B, and couch sleeper left the club and decided to play at the War table in the mirage. Dealer was funny and sarcastic. From NY of course. As NJ guys we get it. Had a great time, made 30 bucks after playing a while.
Wandered the casino a bit. We saw Adult film actor Evan Stone looking kind of strung out and like he was down to his last 15 dollars stumbling around. Not exactly easy to say you're a fan of his work haha. He probably wouldn't have cared.

Eventually we all made it back to TI, well after midnight. The young pup of the group went to another room. He was the only truly single guy in our group anyway. Bachelor's brother hung out in the hot tub in the suite with one of the girls but it stayed innocent apparently. He was at 1OAK til 3am having a good time. Him and party animal were up most of the night. My self and A were done by 130 am. I don't like night clubs.

    Day 5 coming soon.....

I'm really enjoying the trip report! Sounds like you are having a great time.

I really like the Hard Rock. I think it has a very underrated line-up of restaurants, and while the "glory days" are gone the pool complex is very nice. The rooms are a very good value. It is good to see just a little love for HRH on this board!

My nephew got married in Vegas a couple of years ago. The ceremony was at The Wynn and the reception was at Maggiano's. They had a similar sized party to yours, may just a few more guests but not huge for sure. The folks at Maggiano's did a very nice job with the cocktail hour and meal. Service was attentive and the family style service of the food was spot on to what the newlyweds wanted. Plenty of food and drink for everyone and the staff didn't rush things at all. We older folks left shortly after dinner but I think the younger folks had a great time throughout.

Day 5 7/9 The last full one Would i finally get the potstickers i've gone 3 trips and 5 years without?

Got up around 8am. Rest of the guys were still sleeping, A was at the mirage sports book already.

I trekked in the morning heat to the cosmopolitan. I read that the Henry had a braised short rib eggs benedict was worth having. Pounded water while there. Bartender said the short rib benny was a great choice. It was between that and something similar at mon ami, but i opted for not doing the same place twice in a trip. It was pretty delicious and i'd recommend it. But the breakfast i had at mon ami was still the best breakfast i ate.

Struck up a nice conversation with the man next to me. We talked for a while and he told me if I'm ever in Atlanta to contact him, especially for anything NBA related. Pretty cool of him. I kept his card.

Sweated on the walk back to TI. Went in the pool for a short while with A and Bachelor's brother. No cabana today. Rest of the gang went shooting at one of the gun ranges. I think i'll do that next trip. They all also planned on going to InNout burger. Only 2 of them made it. A and party animal went on a mission to get El Segundo beer, Steve Austin's IPA.

Took 600 from the ATM, 6.99 fee was a buck less than the CET properties. Best i could find in a pinch. I only made 1 trip to it thankfully.

Bachelor's brother asked me if i wanted to make my money back i lost at blackjack. We played a $10 table for a while. I was up 50 at one point, but he insisted we kept playing that i would do well. He was up several thousand on the trip. We even got a night comped for the 3 rooms. I split Aces with roughly 20 a hand. I got 14 and 18, dealer ended up with 21. I took the 80 i had left after losing that and a couple more and went with him to the high limit room. We got a few nice drinks and i used my 80 to ride one of his big bets. it was a 12 that turned into a 21. finally something decent hit for me. They obviously didn't care i sat with him the whole time. They wanted their money back. They got some of it too.

I had planned for the 2 other trips i was with A on that we get the potstickers from Ping Pang Pong at the Gold Coast. I didn't make it there in the last 2 trips, and it was 2012 the last time i was there. I also never left the tables with less than brought there in the half dozen or so times i played at the Gold Coast.

We Had dinner reservations at Joe's stone crab steak and seafood at Caesars for 8pm. Took an uber around 415 to the GC (late lunch, i planned for earlier but no one else could commit, and A was nowhere to be found, I went solo, fuck it). The remodeled the place nicely from the limited renovations. PPP was also completely re done. The only problem was that it was 4:28 and they're closed from 3-5. I started playing the bartop blackjack (i'm not big on any poker games) and in about 17 minutes had downed 3 "free" rum and diet cokes. tipped for each of course. Broke even with the bartop Blackjack. Was feeling good and tipsy, and i got in line for PPP.

I ended up ordering about $40 worth of stuff. Potstickers (which they brought out last, they knew it's what i came for), chicken feet, pork bun, some kind of pork dim sum, lettuce wrapped pork something, and who knows what else. The chicken feet weren't great but they weren't bad either. Glad i tried them. Potstickers were just as good as i remember them. I was very happy with my pre-dinner dinner. Too bad no one else in the group came with. Wandered the casino a little bit, mostly watching the dice tables. Interesting crowds on a sunday early evening. I talked with one of the box men as a cold table was emptying out. He said i should play but warned me it was cold all day.

I said ah screw it why not. put 100 down and started tossing from the right of the stick. Set them a little bit and it was up and down. I 7ed out but not immediately. I got the dice back after only one other shooter and a crowd started forming. I must have rolled for a good 10 or 15 minutes. I was making some hard ways and inside numbers. Threw a couple 11s and hit a couple points. After being down a bit, i was up 35 along with some dealer bets. When i finally 7ed again, i took my small winnings and was happy it almost paid for PPP. I'll be back Gold Coast. You've always treated me well.

side note from earlier * Silver 7s is what the Gold Coast would retort if the they were kettle that the pot called black.

Uber'd back to TI around 6 something. Had a really awesome driver. Was telling her the jokes i had the night before at trevi and she was almost in tears. She asked if she could use them. I obliged.

Got in semi decent clothing after showering. I drank some of Party Animal's pina colada guitar monstrosity.
We walked over to Caesars around 730 or so. Talked on the phone with fiancee' as we were waiting for our seats. We shared the stone crabs of course for an app, i got a delicious seafood salad (i had eaten all that chinese only a few hours prior) and crab bisque. It was pretty good, but not as good as the lobster one at MB steak. I think we got the loaded hash browns and creamed spinach for sides. Perfectly satisfied with dinner. The waitress had a pleasant british accent, and was pretty funny too. Don't remember the bill, i put in about 70. Should have saved room for dessert. Damnit. I don't think i had any the whole trip. Then again, the less sugar the better i feel.

We hung around the front of the forum shops for a little while, planning on what to do next. Some of the guys said fremont. A few of them went. A went to the mirage again, and I said i may meet them on fremont. I got the room to change footwear but ended up just laying down. Went to the casino near Gilley's around 1130 or so. Some of the guys came back and figured we'd go there but it was dead. They played a couple slots and some BJ. Some of us made it to the room, and i just decided to turn in for the night. Heavy partying, decadent eating and all the walking had finally caught up to me. I slept soundly until party animal was using his flashlight to pack up before the morning sun rose. He left it on for 10 minutes after getting distracted by something in the other room. Asshole. But we love the guy.

Conclusion coming at some point in the next few days.....
