I have never used an Amex etc gift card before. I have 3 of them now. Will I be able to use these at the restaurants, coffee shops etc within the casino? I understand I can't use it for gambling though.

    Thanks

You can't use a regular amex to gamble either, so I'm not sure what the discrepancy is? You could use it in the casino hotel or the casino restaurant......

Make sure you don't activate them unless you are going to use them. After 6 months of no use they charge a $3.00 fee every month for inactivity.

If a merchant accepts Amex you're good. They are almost as good as cash.

Then why won't the casinos accept them as stated above?

I will be getting my Founders Card Amex guest card this week or next. The only thing they told me was that I could not use it in Canada. Not a big deal since I am across the border regularly but, still weird.

Casinos won't accept them as wagers because you can't use a credit card to make wagers. That's why I said it's almost as good as cash. Walk into any restaurant, gift shop, spa, coffee kiosk and you can spend the Amex card. Id rather have a $100 bill than a $100 Amex card.

I'd rather pull out a $100 AMEX card someone has given me than one of my own Bens. lol

I wouldn't ever use them except they were given to me as a gift. A pain to use as the user has to keep track of the balance. And yes no fees and mine expire 2023. Mine are from Canada but they claim it works south of the border.

    We will see :)

They kind of are a pain to use b/c you need to keep track of the balance. More and more stores will have the balance to the Am Ex gift cards printed on the receipt after you use it, but not all stores do that. In places that don't do that, if your purchase is over the amount on the gift card, you need to tell the cashier how much is left, and they need to put in the exact amount for that card or it will be denied. We always get a bunch $50 gift cards around Christmas time from my husband's office as a Christmas present, and I actually put small post it on the back to keep track of the balance of each card as I use them. It's a bit of an annoyance, but I'd never turn away a monetary gift. :)

I often see similar questions on cruise message boards. I don't understand why people would not just use them at the grocery store at home and be done with it.

Anyways I'm finding out these work easy and everyone knows about them. It's strange cause in Canada a lot of retailers look at them funny, fumble around, ask a manager etc. We're so far behind in many ways.

    Glad I haven't had any issues...yet.
