    My Trip Report

I absolutely love reading your trip reports! I read as many as possible in my spare time. Here is me doing my part to contribute to the community. I will provide a somewhat wordy trip recap and then captioned pictures to follow. This is our 3rd stay at the Cosmopolitan and my 28th or so trip to Vegas. Thanks for reading!

I had to cancel a couple of planned trips due to Covid, so I haven’t been to Vegas since December of 2019. The main goal of this trip was just to get out of town and to relax and enjoy ourselves. It’s been a hectic year, with a career change and a death in the family and several related trips to California. I was looking for a fun getaway, and Vegas is my obvious choice. Fortunately, my lovely wife agreed to accompany me, even though it’s not her favorite vacation destination.

We flew roundtrip on Southwest, and while technically the flight to Vegas and the flight home boarded “on time,” we sat on the ground for an extra 20 minutes after boarding both times. On the way to Vegas, it was because they were waiting on a crew member coming in on a late flight. Coming home it was due to a shift change on the ground crew and they were waiting for someone to push us back from the gate. It was 112 degrees out and got quite hot sitting on the ground for such a long time. I worked up a sweat and was pretty uncomfortable. Luckily the large aluminum tube, densely packed with human bodies, cooled off pretty quickly once we were in the air. Unfortunately, still no adult beverages available on Southwest Airlines.

Things seemed pretty busy everywhere for a Monday-through-Thursday trip. I was surprised. A cab driver told us that things have been continuously busy for at least the last eight weeks. We took a cab on the trips to and from the airport. $23 dollar flat rate for both trips. When we arrived at the Cosmo at 6:00 pm on a Monday, the check-in line was backed up with quite a few people waiting. The line moved quickly though, and we were in our Terrace One Bedroom about 30 minutes later. 21st floor in the Boulevard Tower with a south strip view. The flight landed a little late and check-in took longer than expected, but we had plenty of time to get cleaned up and make our 8:30pm reservation at Lemongrass at Aria.

I had fun planning and making dining reservations before the trip. I made reservations ahead of time for most of our meals, and even though we ended up changing some of them on the fly, everything worked out smoothy and we never waited more than a few minutes for a table. I would definitely recommend making reservations as much as possible right now; we walked up and were seated immediately several times for lunch and dinner while there were other groups waiting to be seated. We had some excellent dining experiences. Noteworthy is our meal at Beauty and Essex: it was fairly simple, but extremely satisfying. The Chili Relleno Empanadas were fantastic and one of the culinary highlights of the trip. The ribeye steak was excellent too. Reservations made everything easier.

It was hot! 108 to 112 degrees in the day time. I don’t deal well when it gets above 90 degrees, so it was oppressive; I was pretty miserable outdoors. We spent most of our time inside the Cosmopolitan, but did manage to make our way to Lemongrass for a dinner, out for some very relaxing pool time at the Boulevard Pool, and also over to the Miracle Mile shops for some window shopping. Did I mention how relaxing the pool was? We had a great view of the pool from our terrace, and we happened to notice that the spot we liked was open, so we headed down and grabbed a very nice shady spot by the shallow pool, under the misters, and enjoyed the 111-degree afternoon heat with a few adult drinks and soaking in some cool water.

Even though I had a larger than normal bankroll, I gambled less than usual. I did play some slots and had some fun on a Top Dollar machine, where I hit the bonus round several times. I think that $50 was my biggest win, but the small wins kept me playing for some time and drink service was good. I had a such a great time that I am already planning a trip for my birthday in September. Though “my lovely wife” is in no hurry to return, I’ll be back soon. Pics to follow, thanks for reading!

Check-in was busy. We made it to the room relatively quickly though. Masks, a nice pen, and some hand sanitizer waiting for us in the room.

Breakfast at the Henry. I like the hash browns, my lovely wife does not. Excellent breakfast steak, better than anything else around! A Pepsi for me and a couple of Mimosas for the lovely wife. Let's get the day drinking started!

Biggest gamble of the trip for Mrs. MaxVegas! Always the Art - O - Mat.

Some gambling for MaxVegas too! Nothing very noteworthy, but plenty of small wins to keep me playing!

A drink on the terrace, anyone?

Secret Pizza, in the room, for lunch. Just staying close and enjoying all of the amenities that the Cosmo has to offer. It is fucking hot outside!

Dinner at China Poblano. Sorry about the lack of pictures here, day drinking out on the super hot terrace nearly did me in. I managed to keep it together and enjoy my dinner, but I missed some of the photo ops due to the staggered delivery of the food. I don’t know what that cocktail was called, maybe you know? We had some tacos: chicken, carnitas, and fish. Also, fried wontons and a pork/shrimp wonton soup. I was completely stuffed, but managed to finish it off with a churro and some pretty special dipping sauce for dessert. This was an amazing meal, I wish that I had more pictures for you.

A few more small gambling wins, nothing really worth mentioning though. Small wins + good drink service = happy MaxVegas!

Lunch at the Henry with espresso, beer, and Mimosas. We shared a Cobb salad, I got the Tomato soup and grilled cheese, while my lovely wife got a bowl of French Onion soup. It was all delicious and we shared everything.

Dinner at Beauty and Essex. This place was new to us. It was super dark and loud, but our meal was fantastic.

Nice report! I’m glad I’m not the only one done in by the heat. I was there around the same time and even though I was well hydrated, the heat definitely slowed me down.

I had that emerald gimlet when b&e first opened. Maybe it’s time for another.

Drinks at Lemongrass look tasty. I regret not making it over there.

A low strip trip? Could be….
Using up comps walkabout! Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the great report and all the pictures. I have to ask though, was your wife really that cold to wear that kind of jacket? How freezing could the casino be?

Yes. Absolutely, 100% She needs a jacket anywhere that is air conditioned or she will be cold. My lovely wife even brings a jacket to the grocery store for the refrigerated and frozen sections. In that picture you can see that she is also holding a sweater, in case the jacket is too much/not enough. :haha: I am always hot and she is always cold, it is a constant struggle.

I enjoyed your report. Love China Poblano, B&E and always get the grilled cheese and tomato soup at The Henry. Your report is making me home sick. Happy you were finally able to get back to Vegas. Thanks for taking us along.
