Looking at all the talk about ADT and what days count as a trip, I am guessing that keeping the room another night because you have a redeye is a bad idea. Would it matter if you booked out that night instead of the next day though

No, because you're still on the hook for the value of the room. Look at it as having a balance sheet with comps as debits and theo as credits. You're getting a debit for that room night even if you check out at 9:00pm instead of the following morning.

I agree with this reasoning in principle - however this could be attained in part with a negotiated late check-out. I've never had a late check-out past 4:00 pm... but if there are a bunch of guests coming in at midnight or so, it's not entirely unreasonable to check out at say, 8:00 or 9:00. A difficult favour to ask, yes, but not completely disruptive when you consider the mechanics of the room's turnover.

The only issue I see with your comment is if a guest is to checkout at 9:00pm and another checks in at Midnight. Housekeeping may not have enough time to prepare the room as I have not seen many cleaning carts that late in the evening... I could be wrong.

Yeah, late checkout, whether paid, or comped, or just informally arranged, hopefully as long as you secured it prior to the normal checkout time, it would be part of your previous day's transactions and wouldn't be a mark on your getaway day.

Which I think is the point of the OP's question. If you're booked on a comp for Fri and Sat nights and leaving Sun on a red-eye, your stay is technically only two nights - but if you were to book the room for Sun so that you would have access to the room prior to your flight, it would look like a three-day stay - meaning that your total action for the trip would be averaged over three days and not two, thus reducing your ADT. While "Two nights plus late checkout" and "three nights but checking out Sun night" are effectively the same here in terms of the outcome to the OP as a guest, the latter can have a devastating effect on the ADT for the sake of future comps.

If OP is concerned about ADT I would recommend just doing a late check out/4 pm on Sunday. A lot of East Coasters (including yours truly), do it. I have a red eye back at 10 pm for my upcoming trip. (I will be en route to Vegas two weeks from today!) My flight is at 10 so I'm out of the room by 8 at the latest anyway. I'll be asking for a 4 pm checkout and will just leave my bags at the bell desk. If my mother were still with me on Sunday I would keep the room Sunday night and not sweat the ADT at all but she is leaving the day before and my last few hours in Vegas the last place I want to be is in my room -- I'll likely be on a VP machine someplace and grabbing dinner -- so I'm just going to do a late check out, especially as I've got 2 rooms comped for 5 nights so I don't want to negatively affect any more my backend comps with any extra night I don't really need.

but unfortunately the casino does not know when your plane is coming in.. and have you even seen housekeeping at 9 pm? They usually work morning and afternoons then take off once the rooms are all leaned for the day..

Rather than book the extra day...just have them hold your bags at the front desk while you gamble some more until it's time to leave for your flight :)

Doing late checkout and then still playing on checkout day instead of taking another comp night won't help the "D" portion of your ADT but it will help your comp balance.

Request a late checkout and leave the bags with the bellhop/valet is probably the best answer given.

When you insert your card and play, you are starring a new ADT day though. So, just get all your play in in the am, then use the room, play more just after checkout, have a nice dinner and play a bit more. The dinner, just pay out of pocket if you are worried about comp balanve and then your play should be equal to what a normal ADT would be

My 2 biggest ADT days are ny first and last day, the days in between are usually less but the first and kast are easily double my ADT of the days in between.

Yep. I know. But I will have a big comp balance with 2 rooms, show tickets, meals, etc. and am going to have my play reviewed in the afternoon of the day I check out so that's why I am doing the late check out instead of another day. I don't want another $200 hit for an Augustus Tower room for that Sunday counted against my theo.

Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they're not there. I've had extra towels and shampoos delivered at that time of night before. There may not be as many of them, but there are no "working hours" in the hotel industry. Furthermore, some hotels offer a turndown service - and places like the Cosmo do twice daily housekeeping. I would actually be surprised if a hotel couldn't have a room cleaned at 9:00 pm, in preparation for a midnight arrival.

I always thought that if you were booked 2 nights, your ADT is avg over 3 days because you are still there on day 3 so if just keeping the room another night to cleanup/nap before would add another day to your play then I guess it's not a good idea.
