Good luck. I would definitely bring your ecig and gum with you when you are out and about. Just be glad it wasn't the Vegas of 20 years ago when comped cigarettes were widely available.

    topcard,
I really admire your being able to start and stop like that. I'd love to be able to do it your way, but simply don't have the willpower to do so. Congrats!

Funny, because I don't see it as "willpower" - I see it as "weakness". I truly have never had the willpower to NOT smoke while I'm in Vegas.
I can usually manage to put 'em down when I get back, but even then, if I find myself at the horse-track or in a poker game or at another casino - I almost always cave-in...
I think it's the combination of drinking & gambling...cigarettes just always seem to be a natural companion to those two activities, combined.

    Us too!

I just called to confirm our reservation and they had a smoking room and I said NOPE, we both quit!

Its going to be an odd feeling not smoking and gambling, but we(ALL) can do it!!!

Thank you all so much for the kind and encouraging words. And to those of you in the same boat...best of luck!:nworthy:

I'll tell you what, I knew I'd feel better after quitting. But I had no idea the difference would be so great and that it would happen so quickly. Within a week I noticed a marked difference. No more coughing and hacking every morning, workouts and anything remotely physical is so much easier...I try to remember this stuff when I start jonesing for a smoke!

I know Vegas is going to be a big test. I will definitely have plenty of gum, e-cigs and probably a few more nicotine delivery systems with me at all times.

    Thanks again, guys!

I tried to quit smoking the first of the year, hasn't worked out to well. I am down to about 10 cigarettes a week though. What I hate about my addiction is I can go Sunday-Thursday all week and not crave a cig at all. Soon as I have a couple beers on Friday I crave those little bastards.
If I just quit drinking I'd stop smoking instantly but I refuse to give up my beer. oh well, someday I suppose.

Congrats! We quit in May of 2012 right after a Vegas trip. In Oct of that year I went with my mom again and ended up bumming 2 during the time we were ther. It was so weird being in a casino and not smoking! Then in Feb of last year we were going to our local and I just knew I'd want to smoke so I tried the Blu ecig. It was great. Graduated from that to an Ego-c and now I use an iTaste MVP and vape happily instead of smoking. Now I can't be around smoke very long, it actually makes me sick. You don't even know how bad it smells and how bad it makes a person smell until you quit. Not to mention, I save so much money by vaping instead of smoking.

Hope it continues to go well for you!

Congradulations as well. I am smoke free after smoking for 30 years and feel better every day and especially notice how things taste and smell better. Been to vegas 4 times since quitting and its no longer an issue; no craving when having a beer, after eating or when around other people.

Any time I thought of smoking I would remember how much like crap I felt when I did and how my throat burned with ever puff and how I was heading for some serious health issues. Now when I walk the strip I breath easy and find I really enjoy things better.

At 16 bucks a pack here I also save enough now for one more Vegas trip a year though to be honest being able to breath again trumps everything.

Keep with it...just believe you can and it will happen!

Congrats! That is awesome, keep going.

The day we land in vegas will be 40 months for me, that is huge. I smoked for 18 years and was so hardcore i thought i would never quit. I didn't want too. I quit the night we got engaged because i wanted to get married & with the price of cigs here in canada i knew i could not afford both. It was the hardest thing i have ever or will ever do. I was taking champix to try and quit, nothing else.

I can not stand the smell of cigs now, peoples clothes, or anything else to do with it. I will not be that ex smoker that lectures but i refuse to go into homes of people who smoke, it bothers me that bad. I am a tad afraid of vegas for this reason.

I think if the prices in the US were even close to what they are in canada there would be a lot less smokers.

Awesome fella, keep up the good work!

My wife and I have been smoke free since Sept 23, 2012 and we have 2 Vegas trips under out belt since then. The first one was tough cause of the triggers, but with will power and constantly reminding yourself what motivated you to quit in the first place and thinking of the great sense of freedom you have now you WILL do fine! I'm not gonna shit ya, it'll be a little hard at first, but YOU WILL get through it!

    Cheers & Wins LOTS!!!

Congrats Carve!!! I just started week 3 of my cold turkey quit after 38 yrs as a smoker. I always stay in non-smoking rooms though and no smoking in our home. I'll be in Vegas in 11 days, so that will be tough as my quit is fairly new.
Definitely sounds like you are positive and have it beat!! Congrats!

    Congrats and keep going.
I quit 20+ years ago cold turkey and the first year was tough.
    One day at a time.
I stayed away from drinking for about a month which made it easier.

Great to hear you're already feeling better, carve. :nworthy:

Here's to having such a fantastic trip, you'll be so busy counting your winnings you won't even think about having a smoke.

good luck on the trip, a vegas trip broke my best effort to date on quitting smoking, I was off regular cigs for 3 months and then the Vegas trip came and I never was able to bounce back once home. I was using the ecigs to quit and in Vegas, just relented and had a 'couple' regular ones, that was 2 years ago. I'm now another 8 weeks into quitting again and have another trip in 2 weeks, and a little worried about how it goes, although I'm relatively sure the 2nd time is the charm.

Just continue to be vigilant with it, and all the best luck in regards to it.
