    My Trip Report

Well we are at the airport waiting for our early flight to Vegas. This trip will be quite a bit different than any trip I have been on before.

My wife and I were going to take her parents to Vegas back in June for thier 50th anniversary, but my wife became very ill and was hospitalized for almost a month. So we had to postpone the trip. Well things are much better now so we decided to take them over Christmas.

My in-laws have never been to Vegas so this should be very interesting. They are on a fixed monthly budget so the gambling will be at very low levels. My MIL will probably not gamble at all, but I will have to keep an eye on my FIL. He can go a bit crazy and spend way too much.

We will also have our 2 kids (boy 7 and girl 13) with us which will be a 1st for us in Vegas as well.

We will be spending 6 nights at MGM.

    Items on the agenda include.
    Hoover Dame tour - today
Ethel M Chocolate Factory - today
KU vs UNLV basketball game tomorrow
Hitting the major sites such as Bellagio fountains, etc...

    Friday will be spent downtown.
Circus circus for the kids at some point.
And maybe the pinball hall of fame.

I will try to update through out the trip. Should have some decent pictures of the sites.

    Have a super trip!
It should be interesting to see the reactions of your in-laws and your kids to the Vegas experience.
    Enjoy your dam tour! :D

Have a wonderful family trip. If you go on the dam tour, don't pull a Clark Griswald. Stay with the group.

Have a great trip! My kids loved the little lizard creatures (tiny) scooting around the cactus garden at Ethel M's. It's probably all decked out for the Holidays. Post photos if you can!

So it has been a pretty hectic 1st 8 hours in Vegas. Wow, I have been in Vegas 8 hrs and haven't gambled a cent... definitely not a normal trip.

Anyways, flight in was uneventful and we arrived right on time. Surprised both the kids and in-laws with a limo. Driver was fantastic and took us by the welcome to Vegas sign and did a complete lap up and down the strip. Not sure if the kids or their grandparents enjoyed that more. I do know the in-laws were blown away with how "big" the strip is. We tried to prep them but we obviously didn't do it justice.

After we got to the hotel we checked our bags and I went and picked up the rental car and we headed to the hoover dam. It is such an engineering wonder. I could have spent more time there but the kids could only enjoy the views so long.

We then headed back to mgm to check in. Absolutely the shortest check in lines I have ever seen at 3pm. I walked right up and had my room keys in a matter of minutes. My wife on the other hand had a much different experience. When she tried to check in they told her the rate for the 6 nights was going to be $264 + tax + resort fee. Not horrible for 6 nights, but not what her confirmation email said it should have been. She pulled up the email and showed them that she was quoted $131 + tax + resort fee. Not a huge deal, but it was the principle of the matter. My wife and casino services argued on the phone for the next 30 mins and they refused to honor the original offer even though we had the confirmation email. Final fed up with it my wife just made it clear that we would pay the higher rate but would not be staying here when we come back out for March madness. This whole time the gentleman at the check in counter was shaking his head and couldn't believe the casino was making such a big fuss about a relatively small dollar amount. He apologizedid numerous times and then waived the resort fee for my wife's 6 nights. So big shout out to Bruce. Ultimately the 6 nights resort fee added up to more than the price difference so mgm was out more than if they would have just honored our original deal.

Sorry that was a bit long winded.

We are chilling in the room for a bit and then we are going to find somewhere to eat and head to ethel m's. I will post pictures a bit later.

WOW - I wonder why MGM wouldn't honor the email confirmation price
Glad they waived the resort fee & it ended up being LESS that it would have been originally.
It is the principle of the matter though.
You are supposed to be enjoying yourselves on vacation....not getting stressed out at the registration desk!
Your experience sure wont make you feel like gambling or spending any other money there now!
I hope the rest of your trip is much better.

I strongly urge you to take the trip over to the Pinball Hall Of Fame!
It's a small plain building on the outside, but the games were so fun!
I spent almost 2 hours there and could have easily spent another hour or two.
The 201 bus, UBER XL or a minivan cab should get you there just fine.
There is a smashburger and an In N Out very close by...I think Von's is around there somewhere too.
    Worth the trip!

I am so, so glad your wife is doing better on her health! I AM so sorry you guys had so much stress at check in. While I am glad it was resolved in your favor, I hate that you both had stress from something that seemed so cut a dry. I AM glad you had Bruce, he sounds like a class act.

I hope you all had a magical rest of the trip!

Sucks you had to go through that, but shows you how big a deal resort fees are. Wiping those away made up the difference plus more! Glad Bruce had some sense.

Good luck when you do finally get around to gambling! ;)

I appreciate everyone's comments. I was going to do an update last night, but when we got back to the room to put the kids to bed I think I might have fell asleep before them. Almost 24 hrs here and still haven't been to a craps table. That will be rectified shortly though!

Here are a few pics from our Hoover Dame trip. Still in awe of some of the stats we learned on the tour.

Hope you have a WONDERFUL time! Astounding that the hotel did not honor your email price quote. Beyond the pale! Happy this resolved itself for the best. ENJOY!!!!!

After the dam tour we stopped at a gas station in Boulder city and there were a bunch of bighorn sheep at a park next door. My MIL and the kids got a kick out of that.

Hmm it won't let me insert thumbnails of the images for some reason.

Last night we made it to Ethel M's chocolate factory. Was not sure what I was expecting from thier xmas display, but I was very impressed. Larger than I thought it would be and pretty easy to walk through. There were quite a few people there last night.

Well I got my first gamble in. Couldn't get anything going at craps, but only lost $140. If we only count my rolls it would have been much worse. I shot 3 times and it was point seven out all 3 times. Hopefully that luck changes before long.
