Yes, that was my purpose for being in Vegas from Jan 29-Feb 2. It was to take advantage of the change of weather from northern Illinois to Las Vegas and get some serious running in.
Forecast could not have worked out better, as the cold snap Vegas was experiencing broke a day before my arrival. Can't beat 60s and sunny all week.
Stayed at the Golden Gate on a gambling comp. Only drawback was noise level at night. I understand about the hourly FSE shows, but there is additional outdoor music that plays until early morning.
The Monday run was 23 miles from downtown to the airport and back and then back towards the Strip.
Tuesday was to be a day of rest and maybe a massage at Happy Feet (El Cortez).
But, after getting up and stretching the legs, the crazy thought came rushing in to just get out and go. So, I tacked on another 28 miles, again back towards the airport and around it a time or two.
Needless to say, the noise outside my room did not bother one bit that night as I went to sleep.
The plan for Wednesday was to take a bus to the edge of town and run up Frenchman Mountain. With the nice weather, decided not to waste any time on the bus and found a path next to the downtown railroad tracks to run on instead. Shut it down after 16 miles, so that a little bit of gambling could be done before departing early the next morning.
With the LVA gambling coupons, Allegiant magazine slot and MP coupons, Golden Gate chip comps, made enough money to pay for airfare and meals.
Basically a free trip with lots of calories consumed at buffets, but just as many burned up on the training runs.

Holy cow!
I don't think I'd be able to make it that far, chef! :faint:
Especially not with all the slot pit stops in between! :D

I don't see too many TRs like this on the Board!
Thanks for sharing and way to go on the running! :nworthy:

Sounds like a win to me!

Sorry I missed you chef. Just got in this evening. Would have been nice to catch up with one of the old gang . Glad you had a good time though.

For sure Scott. I miss the old T2V gang from a decade ago. Not too many from those old gatherings left. Time flies.

Never a dull moment in Vegas for you Andy. I'm leaving next Monday. Missed you again. Like you,
wife and I need to get out of Cleveland at least once during the winter.

Bummer Jim. One of these times again, we'll hook up. Have a great time on your trip.

Sounds like some good ultra training. I think we have conversed in the past. Training up here is the midwest can be tough this time of year. Finally got my training partner to stretch it into a 50k but he slipped on the ice and broke his ankle, be out for at least 3 months.

I hear you mikey. Just went out today for first time after being back and it was hard to get motivated in weather substantially colder and drearier. Settled for 13 and called it quits. If still in Vegas, the weather would have pushed me to at least another 10-15 miles.
And to make matters worse, I didn't have a buffet to reward myself with afterwards.

If you want to catch up to chef, you better be in shape to run after him!!
