    My Trip Report

We had a whirlwind 48-hour getaway in Indian Wells. That's a bit of driving but we hadn't spent much of any time with my sister and brother-in-law since this shit hit -- other than them flying in for a few hours in January to belatedly celebrate my 60th. And it is very rare to catch them without some manner of others in residence at the same time (Marcus Mariota, Justin Herbert a few other former Ducks were supposed to be there but plans changed).

Lunch on the way down in Tehachapi. You just don't pass up a shot at Kohnen's when heading across the 58:

Friday dinner was at Aerie, the really cool eatery at really cool Stone Eagle Golf Club. The others had the good manners to put down their pre-dinner cocktails for the photo but I was not going to yield control over my Beaux Freres Pinot Noir:

Saturday morning coffee with a view from their place at Vintage Club:

This was my first time playing Stone Eagle, the Tom Doak design up high in Palm Desert off Hwy. 74, nestled into the Santa Rosa foothills. It is the most stunning play in the desert, and I've played all the public courses and a good number of the private. Other than a quick range session over Thanksgiving I hadn't touched a club since last October. I ended up shooting 87 with a triple and three doubles. I should quit more often. lol Massive ambling course often with 100-yard-wide fairways, though those are laced with desert doom so it ain't hit-and-giggle, immense elevation swings, no flat lies and wicked huge, fast greens. Being Doak, it's an approach-shot/angles course, which I love.

Saturday dinner at Casa Family and my uncle came over. No pics. Picture grilled ribeye caps and some more really good Oregon Pinot (Domaine Drouhin and Stoller).

Hit the Cole Haan outlet in Cabazon on the way home and thought these would be fun with jeans and a blazer:

Had to grace Kohnen's on the way home, of course:

I think we're going back over Memorial weekend for a season-closing/birthday bash with all the kids and grandkids in attendance, too.

The food looked great, the course also looked fun and challenging, but I really like those shoes.. Yep I can see a pair of those in my very near future.

Great that you were able to get away and have a super time. That golf course looks stunning. I'll have to look it up.

Thanks, looks fair but difficult. I notice the CR/slope for whites is similar to my home course ... but almost 600 yards shorter ... lol.

I took a look on Google Maps/Earth as I've had a look at Bighorn before.

The slope seems at odds with the visual, for sure. But the long holes play mostly downhill and vice versa, and there is a ton of room off the tee, even if it doesn't appear so. (That's Doak's time studying/working under Dye.) But with that you still gotta hit your spots for as I noted above, right-siding and iron play are key. I mean this 14 got around losing one ball and that was because I was too lazy to climb down into an arroyo-set waste area to retrieve it.

There's a lot of Bighorn/the Quarry/Porcupine Creek in Stone Eagle but it is loftier and far less confining. I'd say the Quarry comes closest.

Kohnen’s, yummy! Great photos, really makes me want to head out west and I don’t even play golf.

would it be gauche of me to ask how many golf balls you used for this round?

Not at all. Only one because I was too lazy to climb down into an arroyo to get it. Miracle, really!!

I like the shoes as well, do you have a Harris tweed jacket with the suede patches on the elbows? :p
