I didn't plan it this way, but we didn't drop one single coin in a slot machine. Didn't gamble at all. It's true, you can't do everything, and since we traveled with the kids, gambling is what we didn't do. On the last day in Vegas, we could have. But we were just so tired, we turned on the tv and hung out in bed.
Travel: Southwest airlines, five traveling, so I did buy the early boarding pass to be sure we could all sit together. $400 each from CT (BDL) to LAS. I watched the prices, and would have paid more, had I waited any longer. The flights were good. We rented from Alamo, booked online, used coupon codes and paid $173 for the entire 7-8 days. Pretty hassle free, and we got a free upgrade from a mid size SUV (they only had one, so he offered us the upgrade right away in the garage. At the counter, the lady tried to sell me the upgrade.) to a minivan. We chose a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country. It scanned "scratches all over" so I didnt worry about them being picky with me, witch was ok by me.
Lodging: We stayed at the Cancun Resort, on Las Vegas Blvd, but not on the strip. I guess it is south of the strip. A great place to stay with 2 bedrooms, 2 deep jetted tubs in the BRs, full kitchen, watersides. We were booked here from 4/16 a 4/20 and at the Yavapai Logde at the Grand Canyon National Park from 4/20 - 4/23, but we decided to go back to the Cancun Resort for the last day. That was a great decision, so we weren't facing a 4.5 hour drive before our 7 hour flight.
The Yavapai Logde was great. in retrospect, I'd try to book a rim lodge at the GCNP, just so you can really live up the view at all times. I did see a sunrise and a sunset at the Grand Canyon, but I did have to drive a short bit, and parking was kind of at a premium. Still, we loved both places we stayed.
Fun: We upgraded the free Nathan Burton tickets for about $10/pp, and had a blast there (the Flamingo). Next night we paid $13/pp to see the Mac King comedy magic show. The price included a drink. A 1pm show did not fill the audience, so when Mac asked for assistance, I pointed to my 10 year old son, and Mac called him on stage. We had a fitfull roaring good time, and Mac King was so kind and friendly afterwards. He really made our Vegas trip. Great family fun. We paid lots of $1 or $2 to have photos taken with street characters. We took our photo infront of the Vegas sign. We went to the seen on TV Pawn shop, but didn't even see Chumley. Oh well. We did the CSI Experience and got the crappy dessert scene, but still, it was fun, and I had printed coupons for the tix and also a coupon for a free baseball hat, which my son snatched right up. We peeked in at the other scenes too. ;-)
Thursday night we were thrilled on Fremont St, to see two awesome light shows overhead. Bye Bye Miss American Pie and Queens, We Will Rock You. Wanted to zip line ($20) but the line was huge. The Sin City Sinners was playing, and they were excellent. Two of my kids bought thei CD, my husband and I drank a couple drinks (loaded, just the way I like it) and we danced the night away with a cross dresser. It was a FABULOUS time, with a great crowd.
After checking out of the hotel around 10, we ran through Madam Toussouds wax museum and had a ton of fun getting pictures with the stars.
Dinners: on the strip, we hit up food courts. We did use one restaurant.com certificate at the Pink Taco in the Hard Rock Hotel. Loved it. We used the full kitchen at our hotel as well.
And we did drive 4.5 hours each way to include the Grand Canyon in our vacation. That was wonderful as well. I loved everything. It was our first ever trip out west, and a big step for my small town family. It was something I would definately recommend doing as a family. We had big fun. The only annoying thing was the excessive porn snappers, and they didn't even really bother me that much. I was kind of amazed that anyone does any business out there, but I guess they are there for a reason. 'Snap' 'Snap' everywhere you go.. Here's a few pictures;
