Guys I would really appreciate some input for my upcoming trip in September. I searched some old threads but could not come up with a definitive answer.
So here is the background. Me and one of my buddies are doing our annual boys trips. We are gonna stay downtown the first 2 nights then on the strip for 3 nights. So for downtown I had to compromise and go with GN b/c he wants to stay somewhere with a nice pool. We need a room with 2 beds(so rush tower is out). I checked the prices and the Gold tower is gonna run about an extra $45 more than the Carson tower for the 2 nights.

Now $45 isn't really a big deal but aside from being closer to the casino, what makes the gold tower an upgrade?

The Gold and Carson towers are basically the same when it comes to the rooms. The true difference is only how close it is to the casino/Fremont Street. If you don't mind the walk - save the few bucks for the tables and hit the Carson tower.

The most noticeable difference between the towers is the size of the bathroom. In the Carson tower bathroom, there is barely enough room to close the bathroom door once inside (not that the Gold tower bathrooms are large).

thanks for the input guys. I think I'm gonna save the money and go with the carson tower. I can put that $45 to good use at Video poker or drinks by the pool.

I have only stayed once at GN, and I stayed in the cheapest possible room, whatever the tower that corresponds to. I was highly impressed; you won't be disappointed.

You might check to see if Gold Club rooms are in your price range. Club rooms are well appointed and come with workout/spa access. Free coffee, water and some very basic snacks.

I dont think Gold club is gonna do b/c according to the GN website it is king bed only. We need 2 beds. I don't mind sleeping on a couch but I'm not gonna pay a premium to do that... lol

There are a very limited number of Rush tower rooms with two beds, including Gold Club rooms.

so just an update..... for shits and giggles, I decided to email a random host and see if my play from last year warranted any room comps for my upcoming trip. I did stay at GN one night last year but the room wasn't under my name. I wasn't expecting too much as my play was lower than normal since much of the time there I was at an event, but I did get a little play in the first day and the following morning before I went to the strip. So he got back to me and said he would give me a room in their newest tower for a casino rate of $79 the Thursday and comped on the Friday night.

I have my fingers crossed that he has me in one of the limited rush tower queen rooms.
Thank you again for the advice.
