My friend and I took our annual summer trip a little late this year. We have been going every summer for the last 25 years. We both live near Albany, NY and love the hot summer weather to warm our still frozen bones. I believe my friend set a record in Las Vegas that may not be broken. Read on to find out. Our first 3 nights were at the Luxor – After reading so many negative reports about the Luxor I was hesitant to stay here. I last stayed here about 10 years ago. To my surprise the pyramid room was clean and comfortable, had a large bathroom, a nice view of the pool area and no AC issues. I did well in the casino and drink service was very good. I spent a few hours each day playing a new version of Wheel of Fortune machine. Besides getting to spin the wheel, you can collect wild cards and every 10 spins it places the wilds across the screen and I had several good hits ($20 - $40) on the machine. The pool area was quite and clean and not many kids or loud music. I was not impressed with any of the restaurants, but we had a rental car and ate all of our meals for the week off-strip anyway. ** If you are going to stay here, I highly recommend getting the MLife app. The lines to check in were over an hour long but because I had the mobile app, I was able to use the kiosk, print my own keys and get up to the room in less than 10 minutes. The last 3 nights were at the Orleans. I always get comped rooms here and I really like the atmosphere and large rooms. There was a Rockabilly festival starting on Friday and there were some nice cars to look at and a lot of people dressed in 1930’s clothing. I had my biggest win for the week while I was playing A Walking Dead machine. I was down to my last .75 cent spin when I had a hit for $140 with a 4x multiplier for a total of $560. Then the character from the show started swinging her sword around and it doubled the total for grand total of $1120!! ** Here is the record the may never be broken. After all these years my friend managed to throw-up in his 7th Las Vegas hotel. Over the years he has tossed his cookies at Caesars, Flamingo, Harrahs, Red Rock, Paris and Golden Nugget. The Orleans now makes 7. For Christmas I was going to get a T-shirt made for him listing all the hotels. Other observations: - Went to visit Virgin Casino. We were only planning on staying 30 minutes but stayed for over 5 hours. I couldn’t drink as I was driving but this is where my friend got loaded before leaving. I left the place over $300 ahead. I would definitely consider staying here if I get an offer. The place is a lot quitter than when it was the Hard Rock. - Spent a few hours downtown and checked out Circa. Not nearly as crowded as in the past but it was still very loud. Circa was nice and I could spend a day in the sports book but I still don’t think I would stay downtown. - Did not do any fancy dining but did enjoy Egg Works, California Pizza Kitchen at Town Square, Blueberry Hill, Bonefish Grill and Black Bear diner. These are regular stops on every trip for us. - It has been 5 years since I saw Terry Fator and still love his show. Had 3rd row seats and still could not see his mouth move. He is a fantastic showman.
