    My Trip Report

To avoid the outrageous hotel room rates caused by the LIB and iHeart radio concerts in LAS, I booked the first two nights of my southern Nevada trip at the Aquarius in Laughlin. Check-in took about 30 minutes and I had a room in the California (no kids) tower, and to my surprise, after I had gone upstairs, set up my room, taken a shower and gone back downstairs, who do I see, but kids ostensibly with grandparents in the hallway on my way to the elevator. Their video poker inventory seems unchanged from my last visit in April, and it was not as busy there as it was for my last two trips there. On Sunday morning I ate breakfast at what was formerly the buffet area converted into a large coffee shop, and it was satisfactory. For Sunday night football I made a small wager on KC and the 4 points, which went bye bye when Baltimore scored a late touchdown and won straight up. Monday morning I checked out early enough that I had to go to the front desk instead of from the room, then it was off across the bridge to Arizona to save $1.30/gallon on gasoline and get breakfast from the Safeway in Bullhead City before driving up to Las Vegas. Unlike the casino, the Aquarius hotel rooms have not been touched significantly in years, other than having a K-cup maker with a coffee brand no one's ever heard about and would never buy it either.

I was at Aquarius in July. LIked the casino. Can't say I think any of the other hotels would be better. Well, maybe the Golden Nugget. I stayed at Harrah's which was no gem for their rooms either, reminded me of a Motel 6 in the 1970s.

Wow, gas is really $1.30 a gallon cheaper across the state line? Are Nevada gas taxes that much higher or are the gas stations in Laughlin just screwing the customers?

I think it used to be maybe 20-30 cents cheaper in Arizona for gas back in the 80's and 90's...which was still cheap enough to go across the river for gas before heading home..

Indeed gas is that much cheaper in Arizona, and you can get even more savings if you have a Sam’s Club card. It’s literally across the river next to a Home Depot and they were at least another 30 cents a gallon cheaper than Circle K down the road. Part of the differential is Arizona’s state gas tax is lower, but as you were posting, the rest of the difference can be attributed to screwing, greed or laziness.
