Considering it's location near the convention center (the old Debbie Reynolds' Hollywood/Greek Isles Hotel), it will fit right in with the "convention center" hotels there that don't offer the normal Vegas experience already. Not my cup of tea, but there are plenty of convention goers who will probably fill the place.

There are already non-gaming hotels on the Strip. Not a big deal

I don't have a problem with no casino, as long as there is a casino affiliated with them, i.e., Vdara. I can get comped rooms at Vdara, or at least use my EC's to pay for the room.

I don't pay for rooms in Vegas, but there are plenty of non-gamblers who do, and I imagine - will.

Just saw the article & was going to pose the same question. This hotel is not for the VMB degens, but I was surprised that there would be a market for a wellness-centric hotel. Who are these wellness-focused people ?? :haha:

Isn't this kind of like Mcdonalds offering "healthy" options?

Couldn't they just buy that big empty Bleau building close by????

Like others have said, focus for this one is definitely the convention center crowd. And seems like it won't be terribly far (a couple blocks?) from Resorts World.

What I'm surprised at is the timetable. Claims that it going to break ground in May 2020, but open nearly three years later. Circa is going to have about the same number of rooms, but open in approximately two years from groundbreaking.

Who says there is a market for them? Remember the mistakes that vegas made in the past. Like trying to make vegas more "family friendly" and trying to draw in the families? That didn't last very long. Or like the Lucky Dragon who tried to cater to the Asian market (when Asians could go to Macau instead for less money)?

Money will make or break this idea, the place has to be cheap enough to draw in the crowd but other than the amenities there isn't much to keep the crowd there (like gambling). True the conventions may bring in some guests who are willing to pay outrageous prices but what about the rest of the time?

I doubt that this place will succeed but at least when they close some other company can scoop up the property and maybe open another casino.

It will be successful because of the proximity to the convention center. Aside from that, I don’t think I’ll ever set foot there.

In Las Vegas, where everyone naturally thinks "Such a town for wellness!"

In any case, that is excellent. Too many non-gamblers now, sitting on the slot chairs, studying their phones. Now we'll finally have a place to stack them!

You're talking about different things here.
"Making Vegas more family friendly" is totally different than a theme for a specific hotel. If the article said "Vegas is going to begin to transition away from gambling and be a city more geared towards health & wellness" then you'd have a point.

As for the Lucky Dragon. You pointed out the difference in your own statement "when Asians could go to Macau instead for less money"

As has been pointed out numerous times in this thread, the hotel will be based near the convention center. That alone will attract many of those potential customers.
They're also going to have dining and live entertainment. Is it that far fetched to imagine someone may want to workout and then sit in a spa or a sauna before their dinner and a show?

I dont' know that I'd stay there, but I'm definitely going to check it out

$850 million and no casino, that’s insane. Good luck turning a profit.

Checking the map, it's north of Encore, hang a right on the strip, stop short of the convention center.

Seems the "wellness" part is just a gimmick and they;ll obviously target conventions. The challenge is if they run with "wellness", the other high-end hotels also offer the same in terms of spas, massages, gyms, pools, etc. Will the spa be 4x the size and nicer than Encore's?

Maybe they've done the math on convention business and fell they can get enough?

You are correct, I could be totally wrong. That people will pay (high prices with no gambling) to stay at a "wellness" hotel. Especially since it will be near the convention center.

It isn't farfetched to imagine someone will stay at that hotel to workout and go to the spa or sauna before dinner and a show. However I haven't read any posts from the VMB crowd that will stay at this hotel. Of course that may be because we are all gambling degenerates, lol. And while some probably will stay at the hotel to relax or go to conventions I still don't see a big market or a big group of people regularly staying at this hotel unless their room rates are lower or comparable to the other big hotel casinos. To me that's the key to the success to this hotel. It has to be competitive with the other strip hotels or better rates to draw guests to the hotel. Especially without any gambling. Like others I have no desire to visit this hotel since it doesn't have anything to draw me in. But there are other hotels on or near the strip that I have no desire to visit. Like the Hilton Grand Vacations hotel or that other hotel with the big T on the top of the building.

But unlike the other hotel casinos on the strip this one doesn't have any way of drawing customers into the place so it (revenue) has to rely exclusively on hotel guests and people who use their facilities (restaurants, spas, etc.). In order to do this they will probably have to charge high rates to stay at the hotel to pay off their debt and pay operational costs. This hotel will be busy and filled when the major conventions come around but not sure about the rest of the year.

But we shall see. I predicted the downfall of the "family" theme and I mentioned that I didn't think the Lucky Dragon would survive if they only catered to the crowd from asia. And of course if this hotel had good management they could also make changes that could make this place profitable so we'll see in a few years.
