It was my best friends 50th birthday,so I treated him to a couple of days in Vegas. He's a slot player.I've tried to ween him off that bad habit for the last 15 years, but I guess that's never going to happen. He works for Fox TV,so he has LOTS of money to blow!Hey,he's happy,I'm happy.

I offered to stay anywhere he wanted but he likes Downtown,so I used some of my comps for the LV Club.We stayed there March 25-28.

We left L.A. about 10am,drove up the I-15,made a stop in Baker for lunch and to see the "worlds
biggest thermometer".After a so-so lunch,we were on the road again. From Baker to state line,I tried my best to talk him into going on the rollercoaster at Buffalo Bills,NO WAY,he's having nothing to do with that but was more then willing to stop and let me ride it a few times. The first drop on that ride is hands down the best I've ever been on,EVER!With that out of the way,we headed on to LVC.

We arrived at about 4pm,took 5min.to check in and ended up with room 731 that faces south with a view of the alley behind Mermaids and the Strip in the distance. The room was plenty nice enough. Two beds, shower, and the lights turned on and off,so we were happy. After unpacking we headed to the Gate for some shrimp cocktails, good
as always. My buddy "J" had the bigger shrimp and crab cocktail and said it was very good,I've never tried one myself. The rest of the 1st night was spent drinking and play slots for J and dueces wild for me.About 8pm we walked down to El Cortez for the prime rib dinner. The dinner room was almost empty for some reason.Been there many times before and have never seen it so empty.Dinner was great as always and service has never been better. We played at the ElCo for a few
hours, drank more beer and whiskey.About midnight we returned to LVC,played another hour or so,then
J was getting tired so we headed up to the room for a couple of hours of sleep, yeah right!J laid down and was out cold in a half hour or so and of course I was wide awake and about 3 sheets to the wind,so I decided to go down stairs and see how much trouble I could get into. After wandering
around a little,I decided to play some "fun 21"
since I was way to bombed to do any real gambling.Bought in for $50 and was hoping it would last an hour or so.Well, that $50 turned into $475 in about 4 hours.I had people so pissed off from splitting 10s against the dealer 5-6,that there was only 1 guy that sat at the table for more then 20 min.We were drinking and smoking cigars, laughing our asses off.I still can't believe how mad people get when you split 10's.I even warned people when they sat down what we were doing, they would sit,me or my new BJ buddy would get 10's,split,then the bitching would start. After about an hour of this, the pit boss would come by to see what was going on and started laughing along with us.It became a contest to see how fast we could get them to leave.I guess so many people were yelling and screaming that they opened the other table for
"real" players to play on.That was one of the most fun times I've ever had on the BJ table.Ifiguered I'd caused enough trouble for one night,so it was off to bed for me.

Friday started about 10am,3 hours after I went to bed.J and I went upstairs to have breakfast with our coupons. We both had bacon and eggs and it tasted just like bacon and eggs.My only complaint was the service was very slow.We split up today because J wanted to put some points on his LVC card and I wanted to scout some BJ games on the Strip for later. We met back up about 8pm at the LVC for an all you can eat fish and chips dinner upstairs.I think the fish dinner was $6.95.We had to get our money back it was so bad,I mean REALLY BAD!It was like liquid fish, deep fried in some kind of batter.I'm not sure I would eat it if I was starving to death. After "dinner" we went to the Gate and got a sandwich and a cocktail. With are bellys full,we went back to LVC for kareoke and beer.J sat there long enough to hear me sing, then he was GONE.He hears real singers at work so he could'nt sit thru to much of that.I like to sing blues songs and you don't hear that very often at kareoke. It took about an hour for me to get up to sing.I sang "The Sky is Crying" by Stevie Ray Vaughn. For about 10 seconds after I got done singing, you could hear a pin drop, then everybody started yelling and clapping and they made me sing another song. That's a GREAT feeling. My second choice was "Riot in Cell Block #9" by the Blues Brothers.By the time I finished that song, the table we were sitting at was filled with beers,I love singing! After downing a few beers,I want downstairs to find J and play some VP.By this time it was around 12am and I had to get some sleep because I was going to play some real BJ on the strip early Sat morning.J stayed and played slots Downtown and I went to get some sleep.

4am sat morning I got up and J is not in the room.I went downstairs and found a good DD BJ table and played for an hour to get my brain into gear.J came by with a huge smile on his face and said he had a real good night on the slots. He hit 2 big jackpots during the night. He went up to go to bed and I went to play on the Strip.Today is J's birthday,so I told him I would meet him at noon in the room and we would go fool around the rest of the day.I went and did my thing for about 6 hours and had a decent morning, then went back to the room and woke up J.The rest of the day we just drank and roamed around Downtown playing slots and VP.For J's birthday dinner we decided to try the Great Moment Room at LVC.What a GREAT meal! It's way to fancy for my liking,I'm not real comfortable in fancy places like that, but it was worth all of the people staring at me.But I must say again, that was a GREAT dinner! After dinner we wandered around Downtown somemore, playing a little here and there.J had to go back to work Sunday night so we went back to the room about 11pm and got a few hours sleep.3am rolled around and we got up,packed our bags and headed down to check-out.Check-out was painless and we were on the road by 4am.I kept expecting traffic on the way home but it was smooth sailing all the way home,DUH! it's Sunday morning!

Just a few side notes:

The ElCo still has a GREAT prime rib dinner.

I still think MSS has the best looking casino Downtown.I can stare at the stained glass windows for hours. Those windows are a masterful piece of craftsmanship!

When I was warming up at BJ at LVC,1 other guy was sitting at the table counting and spreading his bets from $5 to $80,and there was no play call from the dealer and the pit did'nt say a single word to him!I'm going back in 2 weeks and will have to give that a try myself.

DO NOT EAT THE ALL-YOU-CAN EAT FISH AND CHIPS AT LVC!If you must, just remember,I told you so!

That's enough,my finger is killing me!

Booger!!!

Hey man--great trip report! I sat here laughing my ass off reading about your drunk ass splitting tens at the Super Fun 21 table. Getting all liquored up, smoking a fine stogie, and irritating the low rollers--sounds like a helluva night.

When we were there at the LVC a week before, we got absolutely NO heat from the pit while counting the single deck game. Steve would even announce the count out loud and we'd make our bets accordingly--spreading from $10 to $100 every other hand.

Did you find any decent blackjack rules on the strip under $25?

Great story, booger. Would've never figured you for a Kareoke Star, but it just goes to show. Drinking and roaming downtown... wish I was there now...

I just got a visual image of Booger doing karaoke in the middle of Great Moments Room [yeah, I know that's not HOW it happened but the imagination does funny things
] Sounds like a great trip!

No No! If you're enjoying the ride it's hands UP all the way!!

Glad to finally hear something good about Desperado. Now I have to read the rest of the report ;)

Great report. I've been on Desperado 3 or 4 times, but the last time was so bumpy that it was just painful. I don't think you live more than an hour from Six Flags Magic Mountain. Ride Goliath. It blows Desperado away.

Great TR - it's hard to imagine you not playing serious blackjack, but since you knew you were just there to goof off...

Just out of curiosity, why were all the people staring at you in the Great Moments Room?

There are alot of great shoe games on the strip under $25,but I could,nt find any s\dd games worth counting under a $100 a hand.Nothing wrong with shoe games but they take alot longer to get swings one way or the other. The best way to play shoe games is to back-count the games then jump in when the count is good. That can still be done but most of the good shoe game there is no mid-deck entry. There are some around, you have to really look and can't hang around to long or they know what your up too.

People stare at me all the time.Must be the hair down to my waist and beard down to my belly. It's more a look of fright then anything else. Then it could of been my comment on children. The couple sitting next to us was asking if I liked kids and I said "I love children...If you cook them right" That ended our little chit-chat!

They have kareoke on Fri. night on the second floor. If you take the elevator up to the second floor, instead of making a left to go to the little greasy spoon, make a right. It,s sort of hidden in the corner there. If your there on a Fri. and get anywhere near it,just follow the sound.
