Has anyone tempted the fates and been? I'll be in Vegas next month and after 30 yrs of going to Vegas Im thinking I might Yolo! LOL

If you mean at the Aztec Inn lol. I looked into it out of curiousity hoping to find a cheap eats hidden gem. menu had one breakfast entree at $5 and everything else was more in the line of strip prices. Think I'll pass.

Wow, 30 years! How many trips? I haven’t been to the Cafe you mentioned, nor do I really want to. Curious to hear about it though!

Aztec Inn, the hiddennest (is there such a word?) hidden gem of Vegas. You must try it!

For these prices walk over to the Strat and only risk to destroy your stomach by food, not by stabbing. And this is coming from a Longhorn lover

I took a cab there one night to say I’d been. After pulling up I promptly reconsidered and had the cab drop me at El Cortez lol.

I was planning on going to Aztec and the $5 Cafe when I'm in Vegas in a few weeks. Going during the day; no way I would try it at night. I will report back (if I survive).

Day or night doesn't make a difference there, as the safe havens Strat/Sahara are right across the street...it is the inside that is scary

Well, I survived, so here is my report. I walked over from the Strat around 4:30PM on Tuesday. It was moderately busy. There was a security guy in there (yellow shirt below). I played bartop VP for a bit and got a drink; won $20.

Then I went over to the $5 Cafe. It is table service, they take cash or debit card only ($1 surcharge for debit), and 1 check per table please, as the signs said. I decided to try some of their Thai food, so I got the Basil Chicken. I think it was $14, and I got a bottled water for $1 (Costco brand). The food was served on a cardboard plate, but it was good.

Then I walked back to Strat and went up the tower for happy hour and watched the sun set.

So, I would say Aztec did not seem scary during the day. YMMV

We poked out noggins in there one evening when we walked down to the Strat (from NYNY & back). We were just so intrigued, we couldn't go past without going in. Unfortunately, our take was that this wasn't so much a "hidden gem" as a last-chance-saloon sort of venture. I don't find the $5 breakfast on a Styrofoam plate to be as surprising as the fact that the place is still in business in 2025.
