You can live in Vegas for 1200 dollars a month (40*30), but there's no way you're going to be able to stay in a hotel. You will not find a hotel for 25 dollars a day year around. Either you're going to have to increase your budget or find an apartment.

I think if you excluded hotel from this it's possible. Splitting costs and use of coupons. It doesn't sound fun to me. The $5 you're talking about for gambling would do me fine that's how little I gamble. But, food being so good and plentiful in Vegas, why go without all that wonderful food? I've read trip reports where people eat one meal a day in Vegas to economize and I just shake my head. Keep in mind, I'm a chubby girl. I'm also cheap and have been a coupon user.y

If you're young and you want a challenge, why not? Especially if you get a kick out of people-watching. Just don't plan to eat for $5.00 a day on the strip - you'll have to go off strip to chain take-outs to be able to eat for that little - the days of the $1.99 buffets on the strip disappeared 15 to 20 years ago.

Here's a list of "cheap" specials but most are not on the strip. For a healthy young person some of the Station casinos may be considered walkable in cooler weather if you have all afternoon, do your research on google maps before you go.

If I'm reading this right, your total daily average is over 25 dollars a night. So you're helping me prove my point. Also, I suspect you didn't include things like fees and taxes.

I think in order for anyone to answer this question properly they would have to do extensive research. It's a pretty complicated question. I mean, we don't even know the dates you're looking to travel and minimum requirements. For instance, do you need to be on the strip?

I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just want you to be realistic.

Everyone has a different version of Hell - mine would be camping! yet some people enjoy it, they say. If OP views this as a challenge, it could be fun for him. Not sayin' it would be for me.... to each his own.

If you are staying at hotels I think you should budget $45 per day: you can find places in the $20-30 range during week days (Fremont, Gold Spike, Golden Gate, Motel 6, Super 8, Travelodge) but they'll be more on weekends and you need to accommodate taxes too.

For food you were thinking $10 per day... the dollar menu at McDonald's is going to get pretty old fast if thats all you are consuming each day. I'd probably want a minimum of $15 a day for food so you at least have some options to mix it up or maybe where you eat super cheap for 2-3 days to save up money from the food budget so you can get something decent and nutritious in you once in a while or do a decent buffet and try to sneak a bunch of fruit out to tide you over when you are back on the dollar menu to give you some nutrition and fiber each day.

Gambling is totally up in the air: even if you find a slot machine that is only 9 cents a spin thats only going to get you 55 spins before you've gone through your bankroll once and each time you keep going through it the higher your risk of ruin. You can play video poker for as low as 1 penny (find a 50 or 100 play machine and play only one hand at 1 credit bet) but that low you really have no chance of ever coming out ahead.

Instead if you allocated something like $10 per day for gambling but then only gamble three or four days a week so when you do have a gambling session you end up with $17.50-23.33 in your bankroll to gamble with... that'll at least give you a little something to work with.

In all thats not much to work with and it still adds up to $70 per day.

I just went to the Super 8 website, punched in LasVegas for one night (weekday), one person at the best rate available. The room is one queen sized bed, non smoking and includes coffee maker in the room and continental breakfast. The cost is $39 for one night and taxes are $4.86 for a grand total of $43.86 per night.

I was surprised as this location was actually on the Strip.

My Fianace and I plan on getting married in Vegas, but I know that it won't be cheap by no means! While I may be a Vegas Virgin, I know that I can depend on the people here to bounce questions and ideas off of, how to get the most bang for your buck and what is really worth splurging on!

So no, you cannot do Las Vegas on $40/day :nono:

There will always be people telling you that you shouldn't do something or it can't be done. Give it a try, what's the worst that can happen?

That looks like some inexpensive lodging. It says they have free pancakes.

I could not find a rating for this hotel (Las VegasHostel), and for all we know it could be some fleabag place. And just pancakes? The taxes would probably push it closer to $40 so how could you do anything else? Are there enough free things to keep you entertained for the time you are there? As for gambling, you'd have to keep it down to penny slots. Are you willing to do a lot of walking, as I have heard that from one end of the Strip to the other is over THREE MILES!

"A Night at the NutBuster Hotel & Suites, AKA The Gateway Motel. Okay, heres is what you need to understand. Las Vegas is hot. But the air conditioner blows hot AND cold air in. The hot air wins. We were lucky enough to get an hourly rate since we only needed 4 hours of sleep. Our card was charged an even amount, with no room taxes, and they collected NONE of my information when I checked in. But, when its 100 degrees in the morning outside, and 120+ in the room, how can you sleep? This motel is only good for busting a nut and getting out ASAP. It is NOT POSSIBLE to sleep here."

This was one the reviews I came across. Another one stated that the place was so bad with cockroaches and blood stained sheets that even the hookers wouldn't go there!

    Elswam,

If you decide to do this, be very careful and have a backup plan, should you need it.

Vegas is a great city, but it can chew you up and spit you out, if you aren't careful.

And ending up sleeping on the street or under a bridge is very dangerous, and it could happen if anything went wrong, while you were pursuing this.

And with your budget., have you taken into account, of having to buy toothpaste, mouthwash, etc. for the year. It is my experience that the hotels you would be staying at, I don't think supply toothpaste and mouthwash. Soap and shampoo yes.

Let us know what you decide.
