    My Trip Report

Hi all, just returned from a quick 3 day trip to Vegas. I had intended to write it at the end of each night, but you will see why that wasn't possible when I write the entire trip out. I drove up from San Diego after a basketball tourney (I am a hs coach) on Sunday, June 30th. It was only 41 degrees hotter by the time I made it to Vegas after leaving SD. The first day I was solo, my buddy D flew up Monday late morning and we drove back together Wednesday afternoon. I promise to write this starting tomorrow. I wanted to start it tonight because I know if I do, I will actually write it out. If I didn't start this tonight, I would never do it :)

Nice strategy...lol Looking forward to it. Curious to see how The Tropicana is doing since the remodel/re-branding. Thanks ...

All three days at the Trop?

Well, being a basketball coach you probably frown upon a lot of travelling. :D

Yeah, I'm very interested too. Staying at the Trop in 9 days after an almost 2 year hiatus.

    Okay here we go:

    Sunday, July 2nd
As stated, I came up Sunday after a basketball tournament. I left SD around 1030 and got to Vegas around 330 after a stop in Baker. Baker was PACKED. Decided to self park at the Trop instead of valet for some reason. Bad decision number 1. But, hey what's Vegas without bad decisions.

I got in line to check in and was about 10 back. Line moved fast, but damnit when I was done, there was 1 person in line. How does that happen every time?? I got the tower that takes 3 hours to walk to. To get there, you have to walk by the conference center area, and there was a salsa festival in town. I thought, what are the odds it's a festival about actual salsa, which I would prefer to the dancing salsa. Sure enough, when I turned the corner, I saw nothing but colorful outfits, high hair and about 400 very nice looking ladies. (Why was I rooting for pico de gallo again??) . The remainder of my trip would be walking with through around and into (duh) the dancing salsa ladies. Made the elevator rides far more entertaining then normal. Got into my room and spent an hour getting situated and drinking some Bud Light Limes! With my comped room, I got the 20 dollar per day free play deal, and I went and got that all taken care of and quickly turned that into 0. Did a few laps of the casino, and really not much has changed. Smaller gaming floor with nothing really special going on.

Took a drive down to downtown as I had FP all over Fremont street and managed to turn that into 300 real dollars. Not once, but twice did I sit down on a machine, hit the first spin and get a bonus immediately. Both times it turned into over 100 bucks. Went into the Plaza (I don't know why, not a fan) and sat down at a Lock it Link game. 5 dollar max spin. As soon as I started playing, I had a 403 year old woman coughing as loud as a harley revving its engine about 3 inches from my left ear. Bad vibes. I stopped playing, she kept coughing. Sigh, I tried to start up again and focus on Lock it Link, but all I heard was that damn Harley hurling down the highway. After a few minutes her 404 year old husband rolled by, swooped up the engine and took her ...well I don't know where, but probably not to their room to make sweet love. Down to 20 bucks and hit bonus, ended up cashing out 170, BANG. I was tired and ready to head back to Trop. Got back to Trop (Valet this time1) and made bad decision number 2. I said to myself "self, you always do crappy at the Excalibur let's see how much you can lose". You ever sit down at a machine and tell yourself as you are losing, hey just 1 more spin and I will get that bonus that will make us even. (Literally every machine ever right?) So 300 dollars later, I finally gave up. I wandered around a little more (Why, I don't know) Sat at God knows what machine, and hit for 50 bucks. For some reason that really made me feel better about my night and stupidity (It was probably the 50 bucks) so I ran out of the Trop, and headed to NYNY. I sat on a machine that broke as I was playing it. 2 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 3 people telling me, we will be right there, 15 minutes 20 minutes 27 minutes later, someone came to help. "They just let me know" . "Oh hey, this machine did this earlier today, what do you know" . Yeah what do you know? Not much apparently. Anyways, I was very nice and cordial and thanked him for helping me. I decided, it just wasn't my night, and shut it down and went back to the Salsa Dancing errr Trop. Went to Paradise Cafe? I think that is the name, it's the food court that is open 24 hours, and I got a hamburger and fries. Only cost me 14 dollars (Lame) Went upstairs and ate it. It's not so great just fyi. Fell asleep around 100.

Honestly, that is probably literally the most boring day 1 in the history of day 1's both on this board, and in reality. Tomorrow I will pick up my buddy from the airport, and make a ton of bad decisions, so there is that to look forward to. If you have read this far and aren't violently vomiting from boredom you need to get out more...until tomorrow

Not a bad start. I'm not going to vomit all over the $300 from the Downtown FP or the Salsa ladies.

Not sure what the food court is called at Trop but it is craptastic. The Beach Cafe used to be open 24 hrs but no longer....too bad; it is very good.

    Enjoying your TR.

My day 1's lately are much more boring, it's why I don't do trip reports anymore.

Boring Day 1s are a good sign. For me, it means I didn't go too crazy and blow through too much of my bankroll.

My day 1 will be boring also. Not planning to gamble on Saturday night.

The gaming area is smaller than 3 years ago? It was already small.

We used to really like the Beach Cafe. I noticed the menu has changed. I suppose we'll find something we like.

    Hi all -

The gaming area is basically the same, not much change in the last few years.

Avoid the over priced "food court" if you can. Food wasn't good and it costs much too much. You are of course pretty much stuck though for food options once you are inside the Trop or when you are staying there. They have really upgraded all the pool stuff if you are into that scene.

The 300 I won from the FP was very fun, but man I hate giving it away the way I did. And yes, the Salsa Ladies was a site to behold.

    Saturday, July 3rd

Woke up around 830, got myself situated and was standing outside the elevators at 930. The plan was to head all the way over to SLS for a delicious Bloody Mary (11 bucks full price if anyone interested). I was going off someones recommendation on a trip report on here (sorry don't remember who) about how good it is, and it did not disappoint. I also wanted to check out the Lucky Dragon as I had never been, and then swing all the way back around and pick up my buddy D at the airport. Flight was due at 1140, he didn't have a bag to pick up, so I was planning on getting there at 1150 and hopefully making only making a few circles.

So, there I was standing outside the elevator at 930. Door opened - empty. I was staying on the 16th floor. I stopped on the 15th floor, picked up a salsa man (Not as awesome as a salsa lady). Stopped on the 11th floor - picked up 2 salsa ladies. Stopped on the 10th floor - picked up 1 salsa lady. You can see where this is going. (I don't think I mentioned that many of these salsa ladies had outfits on top of outfits and fuzzy weird things everywhere) . We were full after about 6 salsa ladies and 2 salsa men, and then the poor schlub that started on the 16th floor in the back. We stopped at nearly every floor.. sorry full. Next floor..sorry full... It felt like 15 minutes, but I am sure it was closer to 4, but man I had enough salsa for the weekend by the time I got off. I waded my way through the conference goers and entered the gaming floor. Hey! - I get 20 bucks in FP every day. Went to a double double bonus game. Nothing happen outside of the highlight of me not holding two pair and holding 2 8s and 1 3 just for fun..ugh. Okay no big deal, I had a Bloody Mary with my name written all over it after a quick venture through the strip. Got to valet...guess who doesn't have the valet ticket...
So I had a decision to make, tell the man I lost it and see what type of brick they hit me with, or go back through the sea of salsa. I figured the brick would hurt less so I told the man. He was very friendly and said no problem. He asked for make and model, last name and license plate number. I got my name correct and that was it. I, for some reason, gave him my previous vehicles information and for fun, I remembered the license plate number of that car and gave it to him also. He said no problem, be right back and I sat down in the 171 degree heat and patiently waited. And waited. And waited. This was the salsa ride all over again. After about 6 hours (or 6 minutes) the valet came back and said your car isn't here. He had me hop into a 1981 astro van of some sort and I got to take a tour of the valeted cars. It was an interesting experience. I spotted my car and realized my mistake. He told me how stupid I was (no wait that was me talking to myself) and dropped me back off and said be right back, for reals this time. I gave him 5 bucks, probably should have given him more, but I was finally off and onto the Vegas Strip.

Arrived at SLS - (Self parked just in case) and walked in. As most people write about on here, the place was dead. I walked to the bar, asked for a BM (Bloody Mary you perverts, a bowel movement costs a lot more then 11 dollars, even in Vegas). He asked me if I was playing and I said I don't plan on playing 200 dollars for a BM (Still pretty cheap) so I will just pay the full price. He called me a smart man --- if he only knew. I wandered around looking for the card place as I know I had a card, and wanted to play just a little. Couldn't find it. Went back to the bar, and he said oh yeah we don't have that anymore, let me call someone and they will hook you up. 3 minutes later I had my card in my hand and was ready to lose some money. Ended up playing at the "I love Jackpots" slot and it only cost me 200 to win about 150, so all in all a pretty good job by me.

Left the SLS and head over to Lucky Dragon. Parking garage is blah. Parked and went down the elevator and popped out onto the gaming floor. I walked 9 steps and realized I had seen the entire gaming floor. I was going to sign up for a card, but 5 people in line, 1 lady working..I didn't like the math. Put 100 into the slot that has the bonus where if you hit the extra wild? (Is that right?) Its the machine that if you land the wild symbol, you can win like 3X your bet, or 5X times or 50 bucks etc. Goes up to 200 buckaroos. 5 dollar max bet. Slid in 100, and was down to 20 and I was wondering what was so damn Lucky about this place, when I got a 5 dollar winner with the Wild thing. My last 3 choices on the machine were 3x your win (please no) 50 credits or 100 credits. I would have been happy with the 50, but somehow I hit the 100. Now I know why this place is so lucky. Played 1 more spin, just in case it was super lucky (it isn't). Went to cash out. The lady saw me, turned back to her conversation. Sigh..why? 45 seconds went by and someone else came and said hey hey..hello and she said oh hi okay and did my change. Why? Just why? But whatever, I had plans to pick up D and I didn't have time to sit down and ponder other people's thoughts right now.

Okay, no big deal. Got into car and with my GPS telling me I would get to the airpot at 1142, I figured boy had I worked this out well. Got to the airport, and I don't know how many of you have ever picked up anyone there without getting out of the car, but there is a little circle you can make. Takes about 90 seconds to do each circle or so. As I was driving, my buddy said they had just landed and man maybe I could time this just right. Got there..did the circle, passed the pick up spot..no D. 2nd circle. 3rd.. I texted him. No response. Called him. No response. I was on circle 11 now. 15.. 17. He calls. "I got locked out of the airport" . WTF does that mean. He said he figured it out and would be out in 10 seconds. Good I was just about to pass the p/u spot. Circle 18..no D. 19 No D. Apparently this guy's conception of time is as on par with my ability to remember my valet ticket. Finally. Circle 20. There he is. Picked him up and we were off the the M (Where he was staying)...get him checked in, eat the buffet, play my 50 bucks of FP and then see what Vegas had in store for us ...

Here is a sneak preview..nothing good
