My wife swears that it's the person that drives the luck. I'm a math guy and "luck" is a strange idea to me. That said, I haven't kept track of my royals but there have been a lot. She plays almost as much as I do and her royal tally is far far lower. The same holds true for 4OAK's . I usually more than double her scratch card total at MSS. I have no explanation. If she has a run where she catches up to mathmatical expectation, that will be a GREAT trip.

Luck is a strange thing. Once me and my ex wife were playing in AC. Lady behind us hits a Royal. Back in the day they came put the jackpot sign on the machine and so on. While waiting to get paid she plays the machine next to her and hits another Royal. I was like WTF !! Just the way it goes.

Luck is a very unpredictable thing and what they say about every hand having nothing to do with the previous hand and being totally random is true. Case in point ~ Way back when we first started playing VP, my wife hit a RF in the morning at the Mirage and went back to the same machine in early afternoon and hit again. The same guy came out to do the hand pay and was amazed too.

I've got a rather odd way of looking at the probability of getting a royal flush. While I realize it's 1 in 45,000, or something thereabouts, it's also just as likely as any other single hand you get. That trash hand you are dealt and draw to, as laid out, had the same likelihood as a royal flush. As presented, it's a unique hand (ok, you could get the same cards ordered differently, and that means that four aces, say, are more likely than a royal since you've got five cards to get them). There just happen to be a lot more possibilities in the deck that don't result in royals than do. But the fact that a royal was just as likely as whatever hand I end up with (as the cards are ordered) always gives me hope.

I probably haven't played as much VP over the years as some of you have, but in 27 years I'm still waiting for a RF. I've had 3 K high SF and every 4OAK, just never a RF. On my last trip I started to try and play more 3 hand VP and I did well with 4 OAK, but still no RF. I'm hoping my luck catches up and I have a trip with multiple RF someday soon.

I'm guessing that since I play the 100-hand machine I've played many hundreds of thousands of hands...

Stories like these make me want to give up Video Poker. I've been playing VP in Vegas for about 7 years without a royal flush, not sure I can take another 15 years without one.

    ^^^^^^

Maybe im crazy but why would you be playing single bet 1 dollars when they have a .25/1.25 bet with a huge progressive for basically the same price?

Wow 15! I thought our local casino (Little competition .) used to be bad cause it was 10 quarters for max and only about 95% payback until they went to five coins 2 years ago. I certainly never played max there.

The stories of these runs hold hope for us victims of variance.
Then again, the GFs Grandmas friend is 90+, used to go all the time, and still never saw one.
I'm surprised I haven't seen the torturous royal in a practice game, or on some 1 cent UltX.
You know whats worse than no royal?
A brutal 4OAK drought. I just ate 3 days of that.

I’m always amazed by people who hit a bunch. My wife and I do 2 trips a year since 2004. We play side by side . She has 3 , but my only was a nickel progressive for $450 at the Orleans in 2006. So it’s been 13 years for me .

Just had one this week on single line quarter playing DW. Drew a 10 of clubs to make it. I don't play much VP compared to most of you but mix in slots and table games. Maybe 5 hours a trip of three days. Earlier this month I was dealt 4 deuces playing single line DW quarters. Don't know the odds on that but had two of those 40AK in that early July trip.

A dealt quad of any particular rank is 48/2,598,960 = 1 in 54,145.

I'm still waiting on dealt Aces. Grrr. I hope I don't get them when playing Deuces!
