The cost of providing the notary service must have increased so they passed along the increase to the hotel guests

I got curious so I ran the numbers on the recent MGMRI fee increases. Let's assume 80% of the rooms are occupied and paying the fee at Bellagio and Aria. Since Vdara has some privately owned condos, let's use 50% for that number.

    Bellagio has 3,950 rooms, so 80% of that is 3,160. 3,160 rooms x $6/nt x 365 = $6,920,400
    Aria has 4,004 rooms, so 80% of that is 3,203. 3,203 rooms x $6/nt x 365 = $7,014,570
    Vdara has 1,495 rooms, so 50% of that is 748. 748 rooms x $6/nt x 365 = $1,638,120

Assuming those numbers are even in the neighborhood, that increase will result in an additional $15,573,090 in revenues per year for MGM.

Which is the more important " amenity" to me, the free local-calls or the notary service...hmmm

    http://www.travelvegas.com/blog/resort-fee-increase-coming-to-mgm-resorts-august-1st/

MGM Resorts will be increasing resort fees at three of its Las Vegas hotels on August 1, 2019. :cuss:

    Aria
    Old resort fee: $39
    New resort fee: $45
Total new resort fee after taxes: $51.02

    Bellagio
    Old resort fee: $39
    New resort fee: $45
Total new resort fee after taxes: $51.02

    Vdara
    Old resort fee: $39
    New resort fee: $45
Total new resort fee after taxes: $51.02

Maybe the resort fees will eventually be higher than the room rate! o_O

Consumers must have been demanding this fee increase. Someday maybe they'll just start comping all the rooms and charge $200 for the resort fee.

I noticed this at Fremont a few weeks ago. I think part of it is because they want to you to extra for the better wifi. The included wifi is 1meg and the one you pay extra for is 10megs. It's a huge rip off of a resort fee in downtown too. At least GC has a nice pool lol.

Just another reason why I don't play or stay with Mlife.

just don't go if these things bother you! Is a $6 increase really going to make you not go to Vegas?? I don't get all the whining and complaining ??

Just skip (1) Extra Large vanilla macchiato espresso caramel extra caramel, extra whip, extra everything out of your daily routine, and you will save the $6.

It's not the cost, it's the principal. If we all just say, "oh well, it's only $6" we will soon have $100 resort fees, a $25 fee for wifi, $50 a day fee to park, $10 a day to run a shower and who knows what else. Besides, don't forget it's not "just $6"...it's $51.

we don't have a choice in the matter. The only choice we have if it is a matter of PRINCIPLE, is to not go, or stay somewhere else. The occupancy rates at these 3 hotels is not going to suffer because the resort fee went up $6. These are higher end places where the $6 won't faze most people

No, not true at all. I haven't paid a resort fee in Vegas in over 2 years. I have a choice, and I made it. I don't have that choice when staying at a Mlife property which is one of the many reasons why I don't play or stay with them anymore. If you don't value $51 a day of your money, then you must be in a much better place financially than myself.

Resort fees for your car could be the tipping point for a few.

No one likes price creep. None of us sit back and think, "Wow, it sure would be cool to spend more on that." And most don't like change.

The only way this is going to end, however, is for people to vote with their feet and wallets, instead of bitching incessantly on VMB and then all passive-aggressively waiting for Big Brother to save them. If the chatter and clatter had any impact we'd not be having these discussions ten years down the line, now would we?

When fees get folded in and prices increase across the board, where is the victory? Yes, the it-long-ago-quit-being-hidden "hidden" shit goes away, the deception. Moral victory. Or apocryphal victory?

Now "can afford" and "choose to afford" are not necessarily the same thing. But folks will need to STOP going to Vegas for any real change to happen, and that then means also inciting the millions and millions lined up to replace us not to show up, and those folks probably aren't as smart as all of us and aren't inclined to try to milk the system to their advantage.

It's jarring when, for instance, I dig around to see what it will cost to park our car at an urban hotel and that little gem tallies $70. (And please, don't preach to me how this is a choice of ours. We drive. We don't walk to, say, SF.) It's the cost of fun, however.

I pay the fee at South Point when I have to.I like staying there and I would be purchasing the Wi-Fi anyway so I convince myself the resort fee is around 8/day.
As for paying fees like the MGM fees or paying to park at a casino...never.
I will completely stop going if need be.
