Trips to Las Vegas
30
This is a kinda big trip for me. My wife and I were scheduled to head to NoCal for a short winery trip, then down to Vegas for a few days over our 26th anniversary. Well, a little thing called a catastrophic knee injury from a car vs motorcycle accident got in the way. 2 weeks before our trip I was hit by an inattentive driver while waiting to make a left turn at a stop sign. Dislocated knee, 2 surgeries, 6 weeks out of the office, 9 weeks non-weight bearing and PT since late September have kept me kinda busy!

As soon as I could walk I told my lovely wife that as soon as I could walk well enough to cover DT Vegas and sit at a BJ table for at least an hour comfortably, I was headed to Vegas. She's a teacher and has some time off in Feb so she and I are going then. I didn't want to wait that long though so a few text messages to my buddy and fellow optometrist buddy JT and we were heading to Vegas for 3 nights DT. SWA points and a free room at the Cal make the transportation and lodging "free".

So, 6:25 am flight out of MKE tomorrow am and I should be at a BJ table with a brew from the 777 and a smile on my face by 10am Vegas time. Not sure if I'll be able to keep up with a live report, if down time allows, that's my plan. Otherwise I'll do a summary TR at the end. Planning on relishing every minute in Vegas. Life's short, can change at any second, life it to the fullest!

Best of luck.....hope your knee holds up well so you can enjoy every minute!

Injured by an inattentive driver? Crashed the bike? I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the club. Your membership package should be arriving soon.
Seriously though...wishing you a great recovery and fun in Vegas.

Have a great time, and I hope your recovery continues to progress. Sorry to hear what happened to you!

Did you call Hupy and Abraham? Tell 'em you mean business!

i called 2 good friends who've lived in Racine their whole lives and asked them who they'd recommend (I've been her 25 years, but have had minimal interaction with atty's). Both gave me the same name, he's my atty now. Not Hupy but another major PI firm in SE WI. Fortunately, the driver did have decent coverage, it wasn't a 5 color Malibu from the hood with a 17 year old behind the wheel.

Thanks, I guess! :-) Totaled the bike I was riding, other two cycles are for sale. I'm done riding for now......

Being a Harley rider myself, your post made me sit up straight. Get well, fellow rider. Don't give up the ship. And, best of luck heading out of MKE tomorrow, you should beat the snow.

One call, that's all, right?

Nope, not Gruber.

If I had done something like grabbed too much front brake, cruised through an intersection or taken a corner too fast, maybe I'd feel differently. Stopped waiting to make a left turn and someone cuts the intersection short and wipes me out, made me rethink things.

Its not the totaled '09 Bonneville, its the totaled '69 knee! :-)

Should beat the snow, but its gonna be damn cold walking out to my buddy's warm car at 4:30am!

Man, that sucks. This is why none of us should get into bad driving habits, no matter how empty the road is. I see people doing this all the time. If people make it a habit of cutting the turn through the opposite side lanes when it's empty...then one day they get distracted...turn as is their habit. Except this time the road ISN'T empty...and boom...they've put someone in the hospital and a years-long rehab.

Glad you're back in action!

Was this in the Racine paper when it happened? I could of sworn I read about it awhile a go

Not sure Greekjim. Might have been but I don't get the JT so can't tell you for sure. None of my smart assed friends gave me their copy though. Happened at Main and 4 Mile rd, about .25 miles from my house. There were several car vs motorcycle accidents in the paper this summer.

That reminds me, they say that 80% of accidents happen w/in 2 miles from home. I'm gonna have to move! :-)

Yeah, I try to stop a bit short of the stop line in an inner left turn lane. People have got a lot closer to my car than they should have a few times. [emoji52] With more and more people who think it's okay to text and drive, it's just going to get worse. [emoji35]

Hope your recovery is aided with some winnings, sconnie!

You earned this trip! I see your landing in Vegas about now as I look out the window and see snow flurries. Get back in one piece with lots of stories for my next eye exam.

Ok, a bit more about the trip. Flights both ways were uneventful. Bulkhead aisle seat both ways. I did get preboarding for each flight, it was a godsend having the ability to stretch out my right leg.

Paid for 0 meals. Comped at the 777 and MSS Buffet for the rest of them (really only ate 2x per day). This was a gambling and drinking trip so food was pretty much a staple, not an event.

Shelly at MSS hooked me up, a lot. She can really sling the beers my way! Managed to be buzzed up most of the day Thurs and Fri, took it easy on Sat to avoid being hung over on the early am flight on Sunday.

Gambling was about 60% at MSS, 10% at The Cal, the rest at Golden Gate and The D. Played quite a bit of craps, caught one monster roll at MSS, started out with $5 pass line bets with $10 odds, was soon up to $5 PL with $25-$50 odds. Hit quite a few points and several hard ways. Won about $700 in 10 min. Also had what for me is a usual occurrence, the 15 min when you simply can't lose at BJ. I think that I hit 5 $25 "pair plus" bets winning $125 each and also doing well on doubles. Took a profit of about $600 off that table. Never really won much else though, and managed to lose quite a bit more than I won! I'd estimate 14 hrs per day gambling. Made enough points on my BConnected card to get back up to Sapphire status so I'll keep getting the monthly free rooms at The Cal and $40 in free food.

Jermee continues to be a great guy to work with on the floor for comps. My buddy who had never really spent any time DT enjoyed himself. Next time we go together I told him I'd be happy to stay on the Strip though.

Walked 5.7 miles on Thursday, 4.4 miles on Friday, 4.3 miles on Sat and 3 miles on Sunday. Knee held up great but my hamstring was sure feeling all of the activity, in a good way.

Looking forward to my trip with my wife in February!

Thread title sounds like one to be found in the adult room...

That's a porno movie joke.
