    My Trip Report

My bag is packed and sitting in the foyer. My heart is giddy for my first solo trip to Vegas, but tomorrow is going to be a long day.
The whole reason this trip is made possible is because my work is closing down on Friday while we get new cubicles. In order to prepare for that, I have to be at work at seven tomorrow. I normally crawl into work around nine. So it's going to be a long day on a shorter amount of sleep than I am used to. Not that I am complaining mind you. :)
So tomorrow, I work until three and then my husband will pick me up and we will head to the airport where we will have dinner before my flight. He will then head for home with our puppies and I will wait around for take off.
My flight will leave around seven thirtyish so I'll kill some time at the bar, I'm sure.

    Plans for this trip:

    • I am staying at the Linq in the bare bones room. I'm going to try the $20.00 trick this time if I don't chicken out. I've never done it, and I am a little intimidated to try, but what the heck, they can only say no, right?

    • I'm planning on seeing Menopause, The Musical. I saw it once with my mom eons ago and I liked it, but seeing as I just turned 43 yesterday, I think I might find even MORE humor in it this time.

    • I'm hoping to hit up the Cosmo Chandelier bar for the first time and try one of those Verbena drinks. I'm a little intimidated by that as well. Then I hope to hit up EggSlut while I'm there, because it was soooo good last time.

    • Madame Tussauds is on my list because I haven't been there in a few years and my husband has no desire to go back, unlike me. Solo trip = I get to do what I want without his whining. :)

    • Bellagio fountains and conservatory of course.

    • Trying Von's Delivery for the first time.

    • Lobster Bisque from Oyster Bar and Grill

    • Hash House A Go Go

    • Rest
That is really all I have planned. Most of the stuff in the afternoons to keep my nights free for relaxing and or gambling depending on how my bankroll is going at the time.
I'm bringing a swimsuit, but I'm not sure I'll hit the pool or not. If I do, it will be a first in Vegas for me. Might be worth, just a walk around. We'll see.
Here's hoping the next 24 hours go by really fast!!!!!
    I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly right! And in most cases, you'll get your Jackson back with a mild apology if they can't do anything for you. The very most you can lose is $20, and if you're ready to do that at a table or machine, might as well start at the front desk. Don't let the situation intimidate you (If you'd like to practice your randomly-giving-strangers-twenty-bucks, I'd be happy to volunteer as a guinea pig. :D )

Anyhow, here's how it goes in my experience (though you have doubtless read of this). On my last trip (Westgate), I waited patiently in line, and when I got to the front, I made a point of putting myself in a real good mood. Smile. Customer service folks deal with dour customers, rude customers, overly demanding customers, and we, the customers, can become the bane of their existence. I always try very hard to be a cheerful one. I put the Jackson between my license and CC before I even got to the front of the line. No need to fiddle with it, no need to show it. They may be prohibited from taking it at some places, but an experienced desk-person will know the instant they take it from you that it doesn't feel right. Well... Actually I phrased that wrong. They know when it does feel right. My guy at Westgate was an expert. He ought to be a magician in his spare time (it's Vegas, so maybe he was...). Anyhow, I just walked up with a big smile, asked him how it was going (showing some interest/concern is a nice way to begin such an interaction), and told him "Cool - I'm doin' great! It's so nice to be back. You should have a reservation for thebucket... I booked the (so-and-so-room), just wondered if you had any complimentary upgrades available?". At which point, before he requested a CC or a DL (they'll need them both but I don't give 'em time to ask for just one and make both awkward) I handed them both over with the Jackson folded between. He took it from me, put my DL and CC out on the counter (the Jackson went away like something in a David Copperfield routine) and started typing. And consulting a supervisor. And doing 'stuff' to his computer. I walked away with a Lanai Suite (personal door out onto the pool desk with private-area firepit, etc). It was only when he produced the keys that he mentioned that I'd 'probably be happy with the suite' (at that moment I knew it worked, as I wasn't on a suite reservation).

I have also personally tried the $20 trick, at the Linq (at the time, Imperial Palace, Caesars owned then as it still is). That one was a bit of an odd $20 trick... As I had a high-end room comped from previous (big baccarat at the Palace Court in Caesars) play. But was ready to pass the front desk a Jackson nonetheless, as I needed a very specific room. In fact, I needed the $20 trick to guarantee a downgrade. I needed my guy at the desk to check me into one of the least desirable rooms in the entire complex (they no longer exist)... A Capri room. This time I kept the bill in hand to be sure it was noticed and gave him a knowing smile. "Hey! I'm thebucket, gotta reservation... Can you make sure that's a Capri room?". He looked bewildered, and gladly informed me that my reservation would put me in a MUCH better room than that. I smiled, flashed the bill a bit, explained that I was an amateur historian of sorts, and that their Capri rooms were some of the last rent-able rooms on the strip that dated back to the 1950s. I got the right guy. His eyes lit up, we discussed the fact that they were the last remaining remnants of the Flamingo Capri, and spend darn near 20 minutes (much to the annoyance of people in line behind me) discussing the history of the place, Ralph Englestad, etc (If you want to read part of the history of the place, I highly recommend "The Money and the Power" (available as an e-book via Amazon I believe), and some of the finer points of digital cameras. In the end, he tried to refuse the Jackson after handing me my key to the least desirable room in the place, but I left it on the counter.

Pass the sandwich, Smile, make sure to ask about a complimentary upgrade. Watch the wheel spin, and if you're lucky you'll end up with something amazing. Worst case scenario, you lost $20. So did that guy over at the bar who just drew nothing short-coining $5 VP and has no story to tell.

Have a great trip! I look forward to following it.

Have a great time! Ah, to be adrift & solo in Vegas, so fun! Since you're at the Linq, be sure to try Squeeze for a top shelf walking around drink.

Happy Birthday and have a great trip. The Linq is becoming one of our favorite places to play during the day. Give Guy Fieri's place a try. We liked it better than Hash House and he makes a mean bloody mary.

It's a fun drink. We don't get it every time we go, but it's fun. And Chandelier is super comfortable. If we're not hanging at Bond, we're hanging out there. Good place to sit and be left alone to just be comfortable or listen to some decent music on occasion.

Solo trips are quite fun. I've usually alternate between bringing a buddy and going solo just to keep things fresh. The problem is my buddy doesn't really gamble and is more of the sights kind of guy. Me, well, I'm a degenerate that's all about gambling and stumbling around aimlessly until I can't remember which room or resort I'm staying in on that particular trip.

Anyway, I'm rambling now - I think you will enjoy the freedom of a solo trip and literally doing whatever you want, whenever you want, where ever you want to.

    ENJOY!

Thanks to all the comments and suggestions. Looks like I'll have lots of time to answer each of them individually after I get off work since my flight has been delayed by three hours already.
Bummer that I won't get in until midnight now, but there isn't much I can do about it.

I think you're really going to like The Linq. Easy to navigate the strip from there and with Flamingo and Harrahs 50 feet across the Promenade you have lots of choices with very little walking.
Oh yes I almost forgot, Casino Royale only a 10 minute walk! Don't shake your head no:nono:

I was intimidated by the Chandelier bar the first time I went there, but it was Saturday night in the upper level, and it was packed with the club crowd that made me feel out of place. But the second time I tried the Chandelier bar I sat at the lower bar with the Video Poker machines, it was during the afternoon so not packed and the bartenders were friendly. Because I was playing VP my Verbana was comped. Some others sat down next to me and asked about the drink, and they ended up ordering it too! Now I try to go there every trip.

Good luck! I've had a lot of fun solo in Vegas.

    Happy birthday!
When you visit the Cosmo, you should definitely try the Verbena, for the experience if nothing else. It is an "ok" margarita-tasting drink with a flower bud that you chew... myself and everyone I know who has tried it has had a different reaction to the bud, you have to try it and see!

Another drink to try there is the Raspberry Lemon Drop... sooo tasty! Enjoy!!
