Number 4 is the one that I have seen new people live to regret. Combined with not having the right shoes, you can wreck yourself if you try to walk too much on the vacation. There is a reason why mid-strip is always so crowded.

We usually rent a car for about half the trip. We always have a plan for while we have the car. I have never thought that it was a waste of money.

I disagree with #8. Vegas is one of the few places I go all out on dressing nice, day or night. BUT if you don't want to, that's perfectly fine with me.
I would say the biggest mistake is to over plan and listen to so much advice online, that you end up getting anxiety.
Who cares what machine or game has the best odds, I'm there to have fun and spend my entertainment budget. No different than going sight seeing in a foreign country, plan on what you do, but don't make it a chore.

One more thing I always bring ... few long sleeve shirts, I think lots of people make mistake especially during summertime “it’s 100 degree outside” however people spend more time with inside rather outside and those hotels blast their A/C and it can get cold!!!! Especially when you are playing whole night getting ass kicked it’s even colder lol. When I play baccarat at Bellagio high limit room around 4-6 am pit mgrs bring out the “blankets” where players wear them lol.

but I always bring light jacket but most importantly bring long sleeve shirts.

If you can keep the “look” of being 25 forever, right on! I know I can’t but have used a great line on them. One rep asked “Are you two married?” I guess the rings were a clue and the wife actually holding onto my arm. My response was simply “Yes, but not to each other!” and kept on walking. Look on the rep’s face was absolutely priceless.

We usually rent a car as well. We enjoy traveling away from the action to find different action. One year was Red Rock. Last year was Hoover Damn. Last year, as well as this upcoming trip next week, there are 5 in our group. So we sat down and using the Uber app I got estimates to Uber to all the places we want to go. The cost of the rental (minivan) was less than all the Uber rides combined. This year we are headed south to Jean and possibly Primm.

Not drinking enough water for sure. I almost missed my own wedding from dehydration. In hindsight, I should have.

All the advertising for LV and my local casinos looks the same. Young attractive people, dressed to kill, drink in hand and laughing hysterically, looking like they just won a million bucks. Maybe that's what first time visitors think casinos actually look like inside, so they pack all that shiny stuff. Must be disappointing to get there and see a bunch of old farts dressed like they just came from the grocery store. Yeah, I resemble that remark.

My husband and I have never been assailed by these people. Evidently a male couple is invisible to them...which suits me fine.

They almost always hit on het/cis type couples, or at least those who pass for same. My brother and I, while walking together, tend to get hit on all the time. We used to have fun {f-bombing} around with them until one of them made us feel guilty about it.

However, if they get desperate they will hit on solo women, as in a few years ago at the Westgate and several years ago at the Tropicana.

That's because, in my experience, it's usually the wife that makes the decision. Happy wife, happy life.

I have argued this for years - 3:2 and 6:5 odds don't matter to the casual Vegas visitor when they see a blackjack table. Especially if that 6:5 table is $10 and the 3:2 is $15 or $25. Most people also know that the themed slot machines (Game of Thrones, Willy Wonka, etc) have a worse payout than some non-themed games but it doesn't matter, people like the themed ones because of all the bells and whistles.

    Yep.

The evolution of Vegas -- we savvy folks hate everything going on there -- hasn't turned off the millions and millions, and apparently few if any here.

Some of that is pure stupidity.
    Don't rent a car
Visit places that you need to have a car for.

    Um, ok.

I also don't agree with the expecting free beer. A beer is like $3 most anywhere in the US so a free beer should be easy to get. Now if you want a $10 mixed drink with 3 shots of alcohol in it then I can see them wanting to see your play be a bit better.

I absolutely agree with misjudging the distance between casinos. Learned that the hard way when walking to The STRAT from Mandalay Bay because "we could see it". Or walking from the Strat to some night club down by the Hard Rock because we found it through the binoculars from the top. Yeah, not a smart move.

    100% agree- it depends.

YES - for those that go to multiple off strip casinos, or do the Valley, visit other places well off the strip/downtown, etc.

NO - to folks that only do strip and/or downtown or even spend almost all time at even one off strip casino. We used to rent and now love Uber for getting around,

I'd be willing to bet, this being Vegasy, that most of those lessons are learned on Trip #1.
I do like watching, in the early morning hours, those young ladies walking, head down, high-heels in hand down Las Vegas boulevard. I think there might some sort of lesson in there. But it entertains me at breakfast, so that's good.
