What a day! Looks like y'all are having a great time. There is a memorial for the Route 91 festival, but it was moved to near downtown in the healing gardens. The address is 1015 S. Casino Center Blvd. The crosses and other tributes are in the Clark county museum. I haven't been back to Vegas since they moved it from the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, but from what I understand the Healing Gardens is done very well and it is very moving. When it was at the sign, it was very somber and the most quiet I have ever seen that sign to be. Hope the rest of your trip is going just as great. Thanks for sharing.

You are not in Disney anymore, guess Las Vegas is a sort of adult Epcot :D . Your son seems to be enjoying the trip a lot; you too, and how great your night of gambling was a winning one. Nice report and photos, thank you.

    Neat report & great pics.
One question, how does a $39 heli ride turn into $138?
I may do it for my Sept trip, looks like fun.

A great report with lots of detail and super pics! I agree that you will be glad you did this TR (oh the memories!) when looking back on it.
Congrats on giving your son a trip to remember... and again on your hot craps roll and win!

$39 dollars only gets you a quick flight over Lake Mead, which equates to about 3 minutes of flight time. That’s how they hook you.

It’s absolutely worth the additional charge to include the dam, and the Colorado River.

So day 3 was a little more relaxed. Did some things he wanted to do, and some things I wanted to. Good mixture between the two.

Slept in, then grabbed Starbucks in the CP lobby for breakfast. The SB here is about $6 higher for the exact same meal / coffee we purchased on day 2.

    First stop

$88 for the two of us via Groupon

The tour is about an hour and a half long. Some parts were corny (to me) but there were some really interesting and original artifacts throughout. They make you turn off your phone before entry, so unfortunately no pics other than the lobby area.

They even make you sign a waiver. Sorta silly, but whatever

It’s worth getting there early. They open at 1pm and the line starts forming quick. We were the first group through the tour, and thankfully there’s shade and misters to keep you cool while waiting.

    Cool car at the exit

    Next stop

$130 for three races, and two tee shirts. The races are about ten minutes long each. Those karts are quick! 45mph.

Back in the room with two hours to kill before dinner. I go visit the Casino for a bit, which isn’t good to me today.. gave $500 back

    Off to Paris

    For dinner

    Negroni

    Old Fashioned

We each had the 8oz Wagyu Rib Cap

Farmers market greens, Shropshire blue cheese, tomato raisins, pancetta, green goddess dressing

Potato, smoked Gouda béchamel, sour cream, bacon, and chives

Asparagus, marcona romesco, focaccia, toasted pepper & hazelnut vinaigrette

    Sticky toffee pudding

I added a glass of Chianti to round out the meal.

I’ll admit, I’m a Gordon Ramsay fanboy, but this remains one of my best steak experiences ever. His foods are absolutely exceptional here. Worth every penny.

Ok, now on to the show

12 rows back cost us $300 total. A staple show in Las Vegas. We bought thoroughly enjoyed it. Sorry for the blurry pic.

    That concluded day 3.

Thanks again to everyone for the kind words. I’ve enjoyed sharing the journey with you all.

Nice report and great pics - especially those off the beaten path that most of us never see when going to vegas. Great job at the craps table too!

Loving the report. You are making some fantastic memories for both you and your son. He will remember this trip for ever. Congratulations on the hot craps roll on day 2. Good luck to both of you.

Sticky Toffee Pudding at GRS is life changing.... I'm going one month from today, and you may have sold me on the Rib Cap.

    Day 4 & 5

Welp, our vacation has finally come come to an end and we’re safely back home in Dallas.

Y’all, I’m officially beat and glad to be back home to my gf, her family, and to work (as crazy as that sounds.) I think in the future I’ll look at shortening another Vegas trip a bit. To me, three days in this city is the perfect amount. How NFC did 20 plus is beyond comprehension.

Yesterday was a chill and relaxing day. We both slept in, then spent some time together at the pools. Didn’t take any pictures out of respect to those present. Love the pools here! It was quite busy, but we found plenty of available seating - even in the shade. The cabanas they have available for rent are fantastic. Couches, chairs, tv, mirror, fridge, tables, fans and misters. The next best thing to AC inside. Extremely comfortable.

Ordered from Snackus Maximus pool bar for lunch. Jerk chicken pita, chicken and tomato panini, chips, and an order of fries. Total was about $40 bucks. Very good food for a poolside grill.

Had a pina colada, and opted for the large. $30 bucks later with tip..

Expensive, but great. It’s saving grace was about 10oz of pure rum, so that’s a plus!

Looks like a storm is coming

    Next stop

Las Vegas Indoor Skydiving. We did the LEARN TO FLY experience which includes all equipment, training, instructor, and 3 minutes of tunnel time for one participant. $116 bucks for both of us, very much worth it and the staff was excellent and professional.

Dinner. We were hoping to eat at Hells Kitchen, but that didn’t happen. Collin told me earlier in the week to make reservations, but I blew it off. HK was booked solid for the next two days, and they don’t accept walk-up’s.

We decide show first, dinner later.

And now back to the Luxor

This dude’s still got it. Carrot Top was an absolute riot! Full of energy, and hilarious bits throughout. My face still hurts from laughing so much. The first guy sucked, and the $20 pina colada was weak, otherwise a great show.

    Great seats, small venue

    Dinner was at Carmine’s

Today we slept in then packed. CP is an absolute madhouse, everyone arriving for the weekend.

We made it into Hells Kitchen for lunch.

    Hells Kitchen Burger / Fries

    Charcuterie Pizza

    Hot Wings

To burn some time we trekked over to Bellagio to check out the conservatory. Then the tram over to Aria, then Cosmopolitan.

I really enjoyed our stay at Caesars Palace, and wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. I think my only knock on the entire resort was the casino, as it seems ultra smokey. Maybe their ventilation system isn’t as good as other resorts?

So that’s it folks. Our “Boys trip” for 2018 is officially in the books.

We were truly blessed to be able to experience some amazing food, awe-inspiring sights, and crazy fun activities together. The times we spent just talking about life, about whatever, were my favorite by far. It’s so easy to get caught up in the day to day grind, or allow our phones, social media, or other distractions interfere with what matters most - quality time. It’s irreplaceable. We can’t get those moments back.

There were unfortunately a few minor things on our itinerary we simply did not have time to do. Visit the One October Memorial, take a ride in the High Roller, and a photograph beneath the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. We would have liked to have dined at Joe’s Seafood, Eggslut, and Mon Ami Gabi for Breakfast/Lunch. All things considering, we really packed in most of the activities we’d had planned, so I’m content.

In the mean time, Collin has asked we return when he’s 21. You can best believe there’ll be a “Boys Trip 2” in store for us in the near future.

Thanks once again to all who’ve posted such positive feedback regarding our trip report. It was my intent to provide a report that’s a bit different from the norm, while highlighting a trip that’s a little more “family” focused, while still enjoying lots of what Vegas has to offer.

Unlike the opinion of some, Vegas certainly can be a family friendly destination as long as one plans their trip accordingly. Acceptable ages, activities, and areas of Las Vegas are each family specific and must be considered accordingly. Kids in strollers may be a bit much however.

Thanks again for following along. I cant wait to catch up on all the other active trip reports I’ve missed over the last few days!

    Until next time Vegas,

    Jason & Collin

Congrats on your awesome trip. I loved all the pictures and it looks like you had a wonderful bonding trip with your son! My daughter and I do a girls week trip at least once a year, and I look forward to that every time. I hope you get to enjoy many more of those trips!

Sounds like a great trip! It's always great to have some bonding time with the kids, especially as they get older and less reliant on the parents. Thanks for sharing.
