Staying at the Luxor for a Bach Party in January. Have gambled there and eaten at the steak house and liked it. Hear a lot of bad things about the Luxor but do not understand why. I know it is far south but that does not bother me because I enjoy walking and casino hoping. Been to Vegas 13 times since I turned 21 in 2007 and am trying to stay in every decent hotel on the strip before 30.

Let's hear what we should know and should be aware of! GO

True - don't stay in a Pyramid room.

The tower rooms are much nicer - on par with any of the mid-range CET properties.

Seems like you've already been there a lot and know most of the other important stuff.

I stayed in a pyramid room, comp from Myvegas...the quality was comparable to a standard room at Ballys/Harrahs/Flamingo....I would skip the buffet....the resort fee includes a free daily newspaper that you pick up at the gift shop.....I used a check in desk located inside the north entrance, where the airport shuttle drop off area is located....no waiting....

Stayed in a pyramid suite room in December and it won't ever happen again, the room had no heat. Don't know if this the norn in the pyramid but first impressions are lasting. You do get chilly nights and morning during the winter in Vegas.

We stayed at Luxor once and liked it. Except for all the trash you could see on the rooftops below, inside the pyramid.

Take advantage of the proximity to Mandalay Bay and spend some time there if you haven't had a chance in the pass.

I like Luxor, but I've only been given a tower room for the last 15 yrs, other than that, you know all you really need to know about it

I enjoyed getting a quick bite at the Taco place upstairs and actually had a pretty fun time at the show Fantasy. It was hilarious with naked girls!

    My take ....

THE GOOD: Tacos & Tequila is excellent. maybe my favorite Mexican food on the Strip. I also like theming and even though the property has been de-themed somewhat, its still a freakin pyramid! There's enough theming to make it interesting. The pool is all right, although nothing special. You're also close to other good properties (MB and MGM). Finally, the center bar in casino (can't even remember what they call it these days) is good.

THE BAD: There is only one good restaurant in the entire place. That's it. I wouldn't eat anywhere else. Your room will get inundated with ads at night. It just annoys me to wake up in the morning and find pizza coupons shoved under my door. The spa is worthless. The sportsbook is small and pretty crummy (although friendly employees, at least). The gambling is pretty poor.

Overall, the Luxor just feels more like a giant dorm room where people want to stay on the cheap (nothing wrong with that) but also want to avoid the kids staying at Excalibur (nothing wrong with that either). The dearth of quality food is a big problem for me

I think a lot has to do with what you expect from where you stay. I find the common complaints are it's too far south, the pyramid rooms are outdated and gambling sucks (if you aren't winning it doesn't matter where you are). Luxor is our home casino and we have always enjoyed our stays. The tower rooms are recommended, the pyramid rooms have had a refresh in the past two years but I would still recommend staying in the tower.

Tender is a nice place to dine, we have never been disappointed. The Backstage Deli is good for quick bites. I agree with UKFanatic that T&T is great and I love their margaritas!! You are close to a variety of restaurants with Mandalay nearby and if you desire fast food there is the food court in the mezzanine and a larger one on the walkway to Excalibur.

Downers: Time share hawkers, but I have never found them pushy; I just say no and walk by. Pizza flyer under the door happens occasionally even though I have been told that it's not supposed to.

Concur that a Tower room is what you should ask for. Tacos and Tequila was a decent place for lunch. Gambling at the Luxor sucks. Cocktail service was really slow, most of the dealers were not very friendly, place felt like a tomb...no vibe at all.

Stayed there my first trip in Vegas and never again for the simple reason that there were no safety barriers preventing me from a drunk fall down 30 floors. Im not good with heights. Things might have changed since I last stayed there though.

I totally agree with you. I really like the Luxor having stayed there a few times. I've also stayed at fancier hotels on the strips but I much prefer staying at the Luxor. Maybe I'm just low key and just to be happy whenever I get to make a trip to Vegas.

There are barriers, which are plenty high to protect anyone from falling. If you get too drunk and decide to jump over, then you had it coming. Your complaint is irrational because no real danger exists. The danger would come from yourself.

Majority of my stays have been at Luxor and NYNY. The only downside I can see for someone is the location - if you like to visit the other casinos a bit north it can be quite a hike. Personally I don't mind because I just use the walk as a workout. Never had a bad room there in either the Pyramid or the Tower....
