Our last day in Vegas proves to be a bit of a lazy one… I check the Peoria forecast and they’re expecting bad weather, so we’re mostly recharging for what could be another crappy travel day back to Illinois.

DW and I finally sleep in and both wake up at 10:30. We cross the street to Bellagio and take the tram to Aria. I check Myvegas to get a 2-for-1 at Aria buffet. Since I already got a 2-for-1 lunch, I guess that means that I can’t get another, even though its for a different property. So I redeem for a 2-for-1 dinner and they let me use it for lunch.

The Aria buffet is somehow not as good as I remember from a few months ago. It’s ok, but the meats are all a little too fatty, and there isn’t as much variety, it seems. Also, the drink service here is woefully slow, so DW’s coffee takes a while to get to the table. Nonetheless, it’s still not bad, and we leave full.

We decide to walk back to Caesars so we can stroll by the fountains. We stop in Cosmo to play one of those giant multi-hand blackjack rigs. The rules are actually pretty decent (for the strip) on these machines, and they’re only $3 minimum, so you can play for some cheap fun. DW gets on a nice roll, winning about $40 and I break even.

We walk past the fountains on the way back, but we don’t get to see a show. It’s too hot to stand around out in the sun and wait for one, so we move along. DW goes upstairs to take a long nap, and I wander the floor so that I can lose the rest of my bankroll for the trip. Amazingly, I’m able to play craps, blackjack and DDB furiously for over three hours without losing anything. I’m only even, but I’m nonetheless impressed, given the general bad streak I’ve been on during this trip.

I head up to get ready at 6pm. Tonight, we’re heading to Craftsteak at MGM. We ate there several years ago, and we’re still raving about the food… and now we’re going to try and recapture the magic of The Best Meal We’ve Ever Had. Mom and stepdad are coming with us, too, so we’re excited to introduce the place to them.

We get to our table at Craftsteak at 8pm. The service is as excellent as I remember. I order a glass of malbec, DW gets the gin & tonic. I briefly consider getting something different than my last trip, but I figured I shouldn’t fix what ain’t broke. I order the wagyu flank steak with au gratin. Sincerely speaking, it is probably the finest bite of food that I have ever had. Then stepdad lets me taste a bite of his wagyu ribeye and I decide that THAT is the finest bite of food that I have ever had. I seriously can’t recommend this place highly enough. From beginning to end, we have so greatly enjoyed both meals that we’ve had here. It’s pricey, yes, as our check came to about $250 after tip, but I would probably pay twice that for the quality of the experience.

After our meal, we play blackjack at MGM for a little while. Again, I can’t really get on a streak, but I’m not losing, either. We take a cab back to Caesars. The driver burns more calories finding the perfect song to play on the iPad than he does driving the car. Nonetheless, we have fun during the ride as he plays a bunch of 30-second snippets of everything from Toby Keith (NO) to Norman Greenbaum (YES).

Now, it’s 11pm, we have comfy beds upstairs, and checkout isn’t for twelve hours. The four of us know that it’s our last night in Vegas, and we’re not sure when we’ll all be back, so we decide to basically blow it all. I spend the next five hours working the floor. I’m up on craps. Down on blackjack. Down on craps. Up on blackjack. Down again on craps. Then I lose the rest of my bankroll during a pathetic Let It Ride session where I only catch one pair over about 45 minutes :Þ Meanwhile, DW is having the time of her life in the Pussycat Dolls pit, breaking even at a blackjack table full of a bunch of twentysomething bros on a bachelor party trip. We both meet up at about 4am, agree that we’ve finally done this town right, and head upstairs.

I’ll spare you most of the details of Friday, since I woke up with a terrible hangover and panicked that I would be deathly sick for the duration of our travel day. Fortunately, it wore off pretty quickly after I ate something. Checkout was smooth (I got $5 taken off my hotel bill, just because I’m a High Roller like that). Airport check-in was great, flight was smooth and on time, and the weather was beautiful back home.

It was a great trip, full of firsts, which is exactly how I planned. Now I sit here, itching to get back already. Hoping to get another trip in this November or December to finally stay downtown (never done that) and watch some NFL.

    Thanks for reading, everyone!

GREAT trip report Nice balance of facts and humor. I was cracking up at your description of Circus Circus which, based on my recollections, was totally accurate.

Thanks for taking the time to post it.

I live in Decatur and usually fly Allegiant out of Peoria as well. My biggest complaint is the flight leaves at 8 PM now - used to leave at 8 AM. In my opinion I'm losing almost an entire day in Vegas! I know the bar you are referring to very well :drunk:

I think you posted this in the wrong thread packer! :evillaugh

And great TR Odelay! I also read you mentioning 9/5 DDB a few times in the TR. Were these actually at the CET bars? It's usually 8/5 at the bar and 9/5 on the floor.
