Is there anywhere on the strip to cash in loose change?

So I have a habit of dumping my loose change into a large "Darth Tater" Mr. Potato Head I have, he's about 2ft tall or so, and I don't touch the change until I take off for Vegas. Used to be a ritual to cash it in at the Coin Star at my local market but since they jumped from 7 cents per dollar to a whopping 11 cents a buck, it kinda hurts watching that extra $10-$20 bucks go out the window! I mean hell that's between 6 and 15 beers (w/ tip) at Casino Royale dammit! Priorities people!

Anyway, was wondering if there was anywhere on the strip that might cash in coins at a lower rate or perhaps ^GASP* do it FREE!!!!! Any ideas?

    Appreciate the input!

If you have a credit union or a bank where you're a regular it would work out well for you to try and cash it in that way (Many with coin changers now).

Otherwise, I know the M Resort (St. Rose Parkway on the way to Las Vegas) has a coin changer if you're driving in. We've done this a few times.

Yah unfortunately my bank sucks and doesn't have any easy way to cash coins in other than roll them up.

If M does not charge a fee then I am there! I think we are going to be stopping there on our way into town anyway to use our free buffet passes we got in our mailer. Free grub and money!?!? Sign me up! Thanks for the tip!

During every trip, I accumulate so much change (usually 4 or 5 days) and on the last day just take the whole bunch to the cage. They will get you squared away in no time. It's amazing how fast you accumulate change in Vegas. Mine is usually in the $30-$40 range. I always just stick an extra zip lock bag in my suitcase before I leave home and just throw my change in there. Once I had $28 in change when I cashed it in. Went and put $20 on red on the roulette wheel. Won, and then put the $40 on a horse I liked. That horse won, paid something like 7-1. Great way to end a trip.

I was about to post something similar. I have cashed change at flamingo with no fee but just came back from the mirage and they make you use a change machine that charges 10% which is BS. Anyone know any other places to change coins for free?

The Cromwell cage cashed our loose change for no charge this past June.

The TI cashier cage would not accept my coins. This was just change accumulated during our stay there, probably less than $5.

Could've sworn I saw a coin counting machine at Bellagio of all places but I wasn't in a position to fully investigate.

NYNY would just take a few dollars in change and that is it.
PH takes it every time and takes it all. They give you a plastic dish to dump the change and they simply put it in the machine.

Didn't know PH had a coin counter, good to know.

I used the Coin Counter at TI in April. It's located near the TI players club. I think they took 10%, though I had less than $8 in change so it didn't really matter to me

So does anyone know if Excalibur or the coin counter at PH take a cut? If so I would just take the hit here rather than take ol Darth Tater to Vegas....lol.

    No they don't take anything.

It works just like the old days when the slots take coins: go up to the casino cage and ask for a coin bucket. They will give you one. Dump your coins in the bucket. Give bucket full of coins to the cashier. Cashier dumps coins through counter. Digital meter shows value of coins. Cashier pays you the value.

Let me get this straight. You want to lug around a 2 foot tall Mr. Potato head filled with coins to the strip?

Yep, dumped him into a very large zip lock, lugged it to the cage at the Gold Coast, grabbed about 2 bills and saved myself about $20! =) Even tipping the cashier $5 I STILL saved more money than using a Coin Star....never again! Ok, time to hit.....VEGAS HERE I COME!

Rock on. I'm glad you didn't fork over that extra $20!
