will be going to vegas soon. Staying at Venetian and while I have had a credit line in the past, this time I will be wiring money(20k) to use instead of a line of credit.
My host sent me the instructions and one of the requirements states that only 10% of it can be used as cash. I was under the impression that when you wire money to the casino you are going to that you can use any amount of it for anything. anyone have experience with this? does it vary from casino to casino? If I won't be able to use the money anyway I want, I will probably end up carrying the cash with me.

You can use the front money for anything. I've done it before. Just take out a marker at the cashiers cage and you'll be O.K.

Depends on the casino but if you wire it in you should have full access. I get a casher's check and have them verify the funds. Plus I use Bank of America so if need be I can always go to the BofA branch and turn it into cash.

I just heard of some new rules this last trip. I would call the cage and verify with them and get the person's name you talk to.

I wired some money to Venetian in June. Yes, they will limit the amount of cash you can request at the cage. They have the rule in place because they want you to gamble. Technically, the money is yours and if you made a big enough scene, they would give it all to you. But that kind of hassle is avoidable.

The easiest way around this rule is to go to any table game on the floor, let them know you have some front money at the cage and that you'd like some chips ($500, $1000, etc.) to gamble with. After getting your chips, play a few hands, then leave the table. Go immediately to the cage and exchange your newly gotten chips for cash. Now you'll have some bills in the wallet to spend on non-gambling related stuff.

They are correct, I do this all the time. I would however reccommend only cashing out a bit at a time because it takes forever to cash out the money off of the front money. The verification process will take 30 minutes. Its partly for your own security.

I never sent front money. Sounds easier just to get markers and pay with a check.

Last trip was not so lucky and I was down a lot so I went to one casino and got a 6000 marker in cash at the cashier. We played a few hours and I went to the cashier and paid the marker with a check before leaving.

This rule is probably in place due to the huge fines it received for being a part of a money laundering scheme a few years back. They paid a record fine for not really accounting for people who wired include amounts of cash. The Venetian is probably the tightest major strip casino for pulling cash out from cage whether front money or line of credit.

That being said, you can still ask for a market at a table and cash out the chips slowly. Any large amounts, I think over $2k, they will ask for your ID or players card. Sometimes you can sneak away with a few hundred more.
