Though not believing in resort fees kudos to Silver Sevens for having the lowest resort fee $3.00+12% tax (how do you justify taxing a resort fee?) previously the Gold Coast would have been mentioned but they went from $3.00 to $9.99. The SS has stayed at $3.00. Has the new resort fee hurt the Gold Coast I'm thinking because it matches the Orleans. Boyd casinos (Gold Coast & Orleans to name 2) have resort fees but not the Main Street Station kind of strange or so I think.

It's fine if you have a car.

Does that mean it's fine if you don't stay there? What's the point?

I stayed 4 days for MM. My non tower room looked out on the beautiful pool area. Room was clean, noise level was low in the room. I would compare the room with Plaza or Harrahs but with much better views. Restaurants are bashed here on VMB, but I must admit that the food was average at best. As a BJ player, the casino had Double deck with good odds so I was content. Their sports book is OK with plenty of help taking your bets ( unlike Aria or Golden Nugget ).

I think its perfect if you don't have a car. The 202 bus stop (every 15 minutes) is right outside the side door on Flamingo. A 5 minute ride to the strip will cost you $2($1 if 60 or older). The 108 runs every 30 minutes (bus stop just across the street). South takes you to the airport in 10 minutes. A 10-15 walk will take you to the bus stop for Centennial Express that goes to downtown.

So far the downtown boyd hotels haven't imposed a resort fee....yet. While we all hope that it never happens it is probably inevitable as most other downtown hotels have imposed the fee. I think Boyd regards the Orleans (and GC) as "strip" type hotels and so have resort fees. The outlying boyd properties like suncoast and sams town also charge resort fees.

The 202 going west to the strip is caty cornered from the SS. You have to cross 2 streets Paradise and Flamingo. It is in walking distance to the Tuscany or 1 bus stop. IMHO the rooms have always been a bargain for the money 42in plasma and large rooms. Very nice pool area as mentioned. They have stated they brought back the omelet bar at the BB.
Which makes it one of the great values in Vegas. You are also within walking distance of many decent to excellent restaurants.

That is strange about the downtown Boyd hotels as they also charge them in other parts of the country ... but it is fairly easy to get them waived or taken off at check out

Don't quote me but a friend of mine just told me that S7 just raised their resort fee to 9.99 a night. I don't stay there because I happen to live right next door to the joint but when I DID stay there a few months ago before I moved into my place resort fee was still 3 bucks and the rooms were functional and included a couple of packs of gum and some water. Worth the 3 bucks NOT worth 9.99 tho.

[They probably read my comments here and decided to jack up the rate. The Orleans can better justify their rate $9.99 not that they should have one than SS. One is how often the shuttle runs at the Orleans. Of course you can ride the shuttle for free but if you stay there you help pay for it. Now that is brilliant and you can quote me on it.

    Thanks Catman. Very well put.
Now early in the morning the 202 is as much as an hour between buses. So, knowing the times it stops there on Flamingo next to Bally's is good. There is a bus app that will tell you just when the bus is coming. I don't know much more because so far I don't have a smart phone. Soon, however.
What I loved about riding the 202 drunk after playing poker at Flamingo is that it stopped right in front of Tuscany and right in front of Silver Sevens, so there was no worries about being out alone on a dark street when staying in either place.
And the seldom mentioned advantage of the bus over cars is that you are 40 times less likely to be killed riding the bus. Not everyone coming home drunk to these hotels is sober. And many are very over tired. The most common injury making accident in Vegas is when a car gets rear ended (often at a stop to turn). Not much to do to prevent that.
I'd stay at the Silver Sevens if they had not gutted their VP or if they had a decent poker room.
It is the first place I ever stayed in Vegas, the old Continental. I learned to play craps there.
I've read good reviews of the newer upscale tower rooms.
And they will shuttle you to the airport for free if you are staying there. They will pick you up as well. Of course, there is a tip expected so the city bus at a dollar is the better deal.
Also right now they advertise they will match your status. So if you are tired of gambling for "free" rooms that come with $28 dollar nightly resort fees, this might be a spot to shift your play.

Don't forget that the Super 8 next to Ellis Island has NO RESORT fee and more amenities than any place. There is even a shuttle to and from the airport, a heated 24/7 pool, and a coin laundry and free fancy flavored coffee in the checkin area as well as coffee in the rooms.

No resort fee on comped rooms. If I get to go in October/November I'll get 2 in each month and they will be really free. Not like CET where you have to have status to have the fees waived. All you need from the Orleans is a comped offer. I only play DB 9/7 triple play in nickels with progressive royals. I'm not playing much to earn those mailings.
Patch them into some strip rooms from MyVEgas (an you do pay resort fees on those "free rooms") and you can get a nice 5 days in the same area for very little money.
Oh, a bit off topic, but at the D you won't pay resort fees on any part of even a mailed 2 for 1 offer. So $64 and tax will get you four rooms with the lowest amount of play generated mailers.
That seems to me now to be the most crucial question for low rollers. Who will waive the resort fee for comped rooms regardless of player status.

Also, here is a bus rider tip

I am often checking out of some casino with a few hours until I need to be at the airport.
Silver Sevens is right on the bus route to the airport and I stop there, play off my matchplays and go to the very cheap buffet. They are fine about luggage sitting in the buffet. Usually, I can get a table where I see my bags from where I am selecting food just for asking. Sure beats the price of those airport places and although it is not the highest quality, neither are those crowded airport spots. A Terribles buffet will do me well for the 5 hour ride home.

So Dewey when you say 4 rooms, you mean your getting 4 nights during the week and paying for 2?
