Saw this game in a recent TR, found it this weekend and took some pics of the UI and the rules so that people can see the rules and such.

I was playing and got a pair of aces, split them and got another ace and it would not let me split again. I didnt have this opportunity with a non-ace split, but I would guess you cannot resplit those either...but yet to be confirmed.

You can double on any two cards (this guy that was playing was consistently doubling 12 against a dealer 4,5, or 6)

    here are some pics

Cool pictures, but I can't imagine playing blackjack on a machine like that. It sounds like not a terrible idea though if rumors are true that it gets points like VP for coin in. That blackjack game sounds like it has about a .33% or so house edge with perfect strategy (based on wizard of odds assuming CSM and up to 4 splits), so that's better than the video poker paytables at MGM Grand.

It does indeed accumulate points like VP. 1 point for ever $10 coin-in.

    I think you ment 0.4% not 40%

Which is really good considering the tables at MGM are H17. The regular table games are around 0.6% HA...so I think this game is better

    Yep! Fixed the typo.

EDIT: Actually edited the post a second time. Didn't notice that you could surrender too the first time I ran it. That puts the house edge even lower.

They have a machine similar to his at the Cosmo, but there you don't earn points while playing, so what's the point?

I tried one of these video dealer games a couple years ago at the Mirage thinking that it would be a way to accumulate points through blackjack more directly and easily with a lower limit game.. Problem was the game was way too slow for me. VP allows you to run through coin in much more quickly if you are playing $5 or $10 a hand. You would have to bet considerably more than that or play a very long time to accumulate any significant number of points this way unless this game moves much faster than the one I played. Regardless of points I simply thought it moved so slow that it was boring - slower than a live game with a good dealer and without the personal interaction that makes a live table fun. Of course I am someone who wants my blackjack dealers to deal quickly and I play video poker at the fastest speed possible on the machine.

What's the point? People like to play them. Earning points is not always what it is cracked up to be.

I played a couple hand of Baccarat on that machine since I've never played it in person and the tables are usually higher minimums that I want for a game I've never played. I found the machine rather boring. It didn't help I was the only person on the bank of machines. I saw the no points sign as well but I figure it still adds to your theo when it comes to comps at the end.

They are kinda fixed. This is a slot machine and not a table game. The payback is set around 89%, give or take roughly 2-3%.

Same machine at Rio with a sign on it that says $45 coin-in is one Tier Credit.

I can't imagine it would be worth it for a reputable strip casino to fix a game -- especially a low level video blackjack game -- and risk ruining their reputation. Can you?

If it has blackjack rules, what makes you think or say that it's a slot machine??

Do you have any source for this assertion? The only way to change the house edge in blackjack is adjust the rules, or alter the deck from a random draw. The rules are set forth in the pictures, so you're claiming that the deck is rigged. AFAIK, any time an electronic game depicts a deck of cards, Nevada Gaming Control regulations require the next card drawn to be fairly determined by RNG from the remaining deck. This is why people can exactly calculate the house edge of video poker. Further, any new game requires both testing and individual certification by the government before it can appear on a casino floor.

I highly doubt that MGM Grand is risking their gaming license to rig a $5 electronic blackjack game.

This is a slot game. They can be set to whatever the minimum hold percentage is for that states gaming laws or tribal compact for slot machines.

Though most casino's probably won't set these slot machines for a 15% house advantage or greater per law, some are set to 4%.

    There is no live dealer.
    It's an electronic device.
You insert money into a bill acceptor.
It takes a players card to track points and whatever.
    There is no live dealer.

So, it's not a table game, it's a slot machine!

There was quite a bit of interaction at this game, people cheering and congratulating each other...it felt like I was at a table...just without the chips.

I made a few hundred on this game throughout the weekend...

This 100% describes video poker, and digital roulette...and digital craps...yet those have a calculatable house edge

Exactly Demon, and the reason that video poker, digital craps, and digital roulette are predicatable, is that it would be highly illegal for the casino to rig the game as smo is suggesting

The relevant regulation is NGR 14.040(2)(b).

    (b) For gaming devices that are representative of live gambling games, the mathematical
probability of a symbol or other element appearing in a game outcome must be equal to the
mathematical probability of that symbol or element occurring in the live gambling game. For other
gaming devices, the mathematical probability of a symbol appearing in a position in any game
    outcome must be constant.

So, if MGM's machine actually uses a rigged deck to make a 10% house edge then they are violating the law.

Here's a 10 page thread about the issue from Wizard of Vegas.

I believe it was my trip report that inspired this thread. ;)

I played these a lot at the MGM last week (there are two).

My only problem is that twice they froze up on me and I couldn't cash out so I had to call the attendant.

Also, the dealer constantly screams "Don't forget the side bet!" which is SOOOOOOO annoying after the 83rd time.

Other than that, these things are legit and I earned a lot of points on them.

No its not. It's an electronic table game. With the same house advantage as the table game.

    Similar to video poker machines.
